Tavlia gave Finn a smile. He's a smart one. I bet he knows where many Imperials are to turn in. Maybe he could be worth exploring as a keeper. Tavlia smiled and said, "My favorite color is blue like me but obviously, that would not work well in a clothing choice. I tend to prefer golds there when given the choice." She twirled her necklace a bit absently. "I suspect that was a bit more information than you were asking but there you have it."

Azaria was awake when Heart of Oak's nav computer indicated they had arrived at their target - a hospital ship convoy just at the edge of Yavin's planetary system. It was a sight to see, a rag tag but shiny cluster of ships, a gas giant hanging above like a lost balloon.

"Medico, this Heart of Oak," She transmitted to the largest of the ships, "here with supplies, as requested, just need someplace to park so you can sign on the dotted line. over"

"Roger that, Heart of Oak," a Calamarian voice answered, "come into shuttle bay three, keep to port. A party will be waiting for you in the clear zone. over."

"Thanks, Medico. Out."

Gently, Azaria guided her ship into place, and settling down with ease at the well lit landing space prepped for her.

"So," she said, with a toss of her lekku as she stomped down the brow and onto Medico's gleaming deck, "wheres this party I've heard so much about?"

Marius was standing outside the ship when the Twi’lek reached the deck. “Captain T’dartha, I’m Captain Marius Luce. I’m authorized to sign for the supplies you are delivering and I also have your next assignment.”

Azaria grinned at the fellow, "well ain't that dandy? More ferrying about supplies to ice planets? Or will it be something interesting, like a swamp or sand planet?"

"Actually I need to get to the moon of Nar Sharlaa in Hutt Space."

"Nar Sharlaa?" She cocked her head to the side and squinted up at the deckhead. "Yeah... I can do that. Just you and just one way?"

"Yes Ma'am I could fly a Rebel Transport but something tells me this mission requires something that The Emperor and his lackey Vader won't pay as much attention to. Which means Ma'am that I need someone like you. Now I assume you will be desiring a fee?"
"Well now, no need to talk shop out here in the cold - I have some beverages on board, but I hazard to bet there is something to be drank hereabouts."

"I'm afraid I'm not sure where the Cantina is on this vessel if there even is one. I was injured in the preparations for the BAttle against the Death Star and was sent here to recover."

Azaria shrugged, "No matter, come onboard. I was just hoping to get out and stretch my legs, but I can show you about my ol boy."

Once they were inside Marius glanced at her "Argh that be better. The deckhands get Frightened when I speak unless I talk like regular people."

Nope, not even a little bit could Azaria restrain the peals of laughter that broke out of her, "oh my Sith! Are you kidding me?"

"I kid you not. My usual dialect is a little saltier then most peoples."

"Be you familiar with a Lad known AS Captain ALika Reau. My mission involves finding him and delivering a document and then working alongside him."

"Oooh, this is fantastic!" Azaria clapped her hands excitedly, "you sound just like ol Mynock Myron! Quick! Say, 'yo ho ho and a bottle of rum'!"

"My own drinking habits don't involve Rum personally."

"Yeah, I'm more into whiskey myself..." She paused, still smiling widely, and squinted again at the deckhead, "Reau? Sounds almost familiar... but not ringing any bells... Think there'd be work for me on this secret mission of yours?"

"I will ask the Captain about that when I meet up with him."

As they entered the common area, Azaria tipped a pile of laundry out of a chair, offering it to Luce, then plunked down on a bench also piled high. "Sorry about the mess, haven't got around to folding everything up... so, can you fill me in on the situation we'll be flying into?"

"Ar'gh I've pretty much told you what Her Excellency told me."

: Azaria's lekku twitched. "Her Excellency? Oh for blinkin' sake... is my ship going to be turned into tiny little bits? Because thats what happens to people who do things for people with titles like that!"

"Let me say this much Lass We stand less of a chance of that happening then if I would one of the Emperors Pawns."

That made her stop... smashing up Imps? Sounded like fun... dangerous fun.... She grinned. That was the type of fun she liked.
Well, besides... you know.

"Yarrrr, matey, sign me up!" she chortled, grabbing a nearby mostly-not-empty bottle of something with enough firepower to kill even the heartiest of brain cells, and poured two shots.

"Bottoms Up Lass," Marius said as he down the shot in one fellow swoop

She winked lecherously at Luce and downed her drink. "you can count on that."

"Now the matter of Payment on my part for your taking me to Nar Sharlaa to find Captain Reau.?"

"well, you're pretty and what not, but I need more than eye candy to keep my boy fueled up," she teased him abit before carrying on, "I'll give you my usual deal, better than the 'deal' I give the Hutt I work with. You pay my fuel, a 10% service fee, and costs of any damage, and a deposit of.... oh, lets say... dinner?"

"Ar'gh you drive a hard bargain. First decent Eatery we find I''ll buy you a gourmet Delight."

She squinted at him over the rim of her glass, "If it has even a little trace of womp rat in it, deal's off and I get your boots."

"Then we better stay away from the Cantina on Tatooine besides Tatooine is a little far from where we be headed."

“Welcome to the Heart of Oak?” Azaria told her passenger

“And a most pleasant Welcome it was Lass,” Marius said. “Let me just go back to the deck and grab my gear and we can shove off when you are ready?”

Finn cast a glance at Alika and Luke.

"Promise me we'll spend more time fighting the Imps than each other and you can count me in..." he observed, dryly.

Harm extended a large, clawed hand, "Name's Harman, Harman Talon, lead negotiator. Welcome to the crew."

Finn shook his hand... claw... appendage. "Negotiator, eh? Does that mean we get to talk as well as shoot?"

Luke never saw it coming and down he was on the ground. Flustered, his mind spinning, he pulled himself back up. His vision was blurry, he thought he saw Kaj by his side, but couldn't be sure. "You..." He muttered. He had difficulty concentrating, like some sort of block was in place. It must be her, keeping him down using some sort of Force ability. Otherwise he'd seen the blow coming, he would've been able to block it. He had never been caught off guard before. It might have been just a little nudge of the Force that had clouded his judgement and Luke already felt the grip lessening. However, whether this was because she let him go, or because she wasn't trained enough in the ways of the Force Luke couldn't tell.

And that made her dangerous

He did not retaliate, he knew better than to take on a fully armored, Force sensitive opponent. He held up a hand, indicating he wasn't planning on going on the offensive, even though a large part of him wanted nothing more. He sighed deeply, clearing his mind, then he looked at this armored and masked woman, at the others. Then at Kaj.

Tag Kaj

Was this really the privateering group the Alliance had selected for this mission? A civilised Dragon, a trigger happy masked woman, an Alderanian without a home, a dude with what seemed like a lusty Twi'lek he wouldn't ever want to turn his back on...

It didn't feel right at all.

Then there was Kaj, looking at her, Luke felt she was the only person he could reasonably trust. No. He couldn't join this group just for some credits and the spoils. He had come here hoping to find a specialist team of elites looking to assist the Alliance in subtle ways by raiding supply lines, sabotage, intercepting messages and disrupting communications.

But what it looked like to Luke was more akin to a band of shady characters looking to hurt the Empire whereever possible, killing and looting. Especially with Miss trigger-happy over there itching for a fight. All that he had in common with these people was a hatred for the Empire. But that wasn't good enough.

The Dragon looked more cool headed though, reasonable, a leader. Though the way he nonchalantly ignored the confrontation between the masked woman and Luke made him doubt about his leadership capabilities.

Luke chose to ignore the masked woman for now, all she was longing for was another confrontation, if not physically then he imagined she'd have a thing or two to say just to win the argument. Luke wouldn't give her the satisfaction.

Instead he directed himself at the Dragon named Harman Talon. "Why would I join you? I can hunt down Imperials by myself, I've done it before. So tell me, why should I join your crew? I have no reason to trust you, especially her", he pointed at the masked woman. "So, offer me something better than just the rush of the kill and the spoils."

Kaj had stepped forward when the woman in the Mandalorian armour had struck Luke across the face. She knocked him back, and hadn't knocked him out, challenging him. She was tempted to take that challenge, and show exactly how much importance she put into her Mission. Her face was blank, her eyes blazed a deep brown almost black, but then, Luke held up his hand. He might have meant it as a cessation of his hostilities; she took it as her standing down as well. Stepping back, she felt Luke's eyes on her and let the fire die in hers. She took a breath, one that let the tension out of her slowly, but she was still on alert. Putting out a hand, she locked eyes with Luke as he got up.

Then there was Kaj, looking at her, Luke felt she was the only person he could reasonably trust.

She gave him the slightest of smiles, and winked, then straightened up. It said, 'I have your back, no matter what.' Luke might be ignoring the woman, but Wendo certainly wasn't. She stood easily and comfortably, listening.

She remained stoic, at ease, and patiently waiting. Trust was a commodity that was in short supply in the Galaxy, and if she had to claim anyone in that small group, there would be one: Kaj Wendo. Glancing at Luke after his say, she realised something at that moment as well; there was an addition to her select group: Luke Helios.

Taking the time, she glanced over the group, and sized each one up in turn. Measurements, distances, air currents, heights, triangulations, obstacles, and estimated reaction times all ticked through her mind like a checklist, until her gaze landed on the one Luke was addressing. She'd need her secondary weapon, but she could probably manage to neutralise any initial threats if they made any untoward moves, and cover their retreat if necessary. She'd probably suffer the heaviest damage, interposing herself between the attackers and Luke, but that was part of what she accepted when she signed on.

All of this ran through her mind as she stood, making no move and saying nothing. If she hadn't made several plans with varying outcomes, she wouldn't be doing her job. Which at this very moment was observing, but that could change in the blink of an eye.

Kaj Wendo stood, ready for anything. Including more standing.

Azaria dozed lightly as the Heart of Oak hurtled through a field of stars, aimed towards Nar Shalaa.
The nav computer warbled softly, alerting her that they were nearing the star system.

"Oi, Captain Hook," She called out through the ship's intercom to Luce, "We'll be dropping out of lightspeed in 5 minutes. Wanna join me for the approach?"

Re: Episode 0: A Monster is Born (Pilot) - Background

Postby KendleRJ » Fri Apr 18, 2014 3:30 pm

Continued... Two years ago on Corellia

It didn’t take too long to get suited up for the undercover op. It had taken less time to remove the corpse of her former CO, and order someone to clean up the office for the next person in line. That jolly looking Imperial Commander Red appointed her, but she knew that someone would have to step in while she and the Imperial Naval Pilot went off looking for the escaped detainee. That was Imperial double speak for Rebel scum. She had been hearing it more and more…

Smoothing her hair back, she looked at herself in the mirror. She stretched, trying to get rid of the tight-assed military bearing that came with the territory of being part of the CPDF. Her loose shirt was partially open, but held in check by a black vest overtop. It matched the tighter black pants she wore which allowed for ease of movement, and modesty, in case she had to climb up or over something. Her sidearm wasn’t standard issue; it would look conspicuous for them to head into Blue Sector in Coronet without one, but opted for something that wouldn’t tip them to her real identity.

They would have to coordinate with the rest of the search parties, but that would be in person, in back alleys, and quietly. Radio signals could get intercepted, and if someone missed their rendezvous, it would give the others a firm location to start from, in case of mishap. Also, read into that the word death. Anything could happen there, and often did. It wasn’t safe for a uniformed officer to head into it, let alone two. They couldn’t possibly get information or follow their quarry otherwise.

Waiting at their transport, she looked over her shoulder, waiting for the Pilot. Luke. She’d have to call him, Luke. And not give him a look like he was an Imperial to be tolerated. She’d have to work into that attitude, but managed tolerance, for now. Closing her eyes, she systematically removed each concern, consideration and connection with her life. It was all suspended for the moment. Shaking her head, she let her hair loose, and leaned over casually, waiting. She slouched, giving every appearance of a driver, waiting for her fare.

She figured he might have something to say about that… but she could wait for Luke Helios to emerge before they had words. She had seen his shock at the happenings in the office, but only time would determine how much of that was genuine.

Luke had been quite distraught by the events of the previous day. Not only had he been witness to the execution of a well-respected military commander but he felt like he had been made an accomplice to it. Like it or not, he was part of the Imperial Navy and Kaj, now, Commander Kaj, wasn’t, and nowadays that mattered more than the Corellian blood flowing through both their bodies. It was going to be tough getting on Kaj’s good side.

Luke didn’t know why exactly, but he wanted to be on her good side. Perhaps it was the way they had treated her that day, perhaps he felt she needed a friend in these dire times. All he knew was he wanted to get to know her better, the uniform be damned. So actually the idea of them going under cover quite appealed to Luke since it took that troublesome uniform out of the equation.

He hadn’t shaved nor combed his hair when he got out of bed this morning, giving him a tougher look. He had left his uniform at his quarters and instead opted for a comfortable bright red shirt and blue jeans, finished by a brown leather jacket. Upon his belt he had attached his vibroblade and a small blaster pistol that had been in the family for ages.

He stepped outside and breathed in the fresh Corellian air. In the distance he could already see Kaj waiting at their transport. He waved at her and set off in her direction. As the distance grew less, Kaj grew more beautiful. He smiled at her and said: “Beautiful day isn’t it?”

Looking over at him, Kaj grinned, surprised to see someone who had looked so clean cut the day before. “It is,” she agreed. “Did you sleep well?” Chuckling softly she added, “Or at all?”

She hadn’t meant to sound too friendly, or even forgiving, but she had to start again somewhere, and this was as good a place as any. He hadn’t pulled the trigger, but Luke might as well have. Whatever was going on here was happening high above her pay grade, even though she’d just been promoted. She figured they were expecting her to fail. Kaj Wendo wasn’t going to be the saviour of the Corellian Planetary Defense Force. She might be its doom.

Her eyes were slightly shadowed, wondering what might be in store for her, or even for them. “I think it’s best if you sit in the front seat, Luke, unless you’d like people thinking you’re a tourist.” She pressed the locking mechanism and waited for him to settle. Taking a deep breath, she did something she thought she might never do, and stuck her hand out. “Kaj Wendo. Not formally introduced but well, let’s get that out of the way. We can do more talking on our way to Blue Sector.”

Luke took her hand and returned the greeting: “Luke Helios”. He said with a smile. They both sat in front, next to each other. Luke let Kaj handle the controls. The CPDF base was out in the country, a little away from the metropolis of Coronet, so it would take them a little while to get there. Along with a couple of other transports that were part of the search party they soared over the treetops, passed green fields, farms and meadows. In the distance the edge of one of the dense tropical forests Corellia was known for. One by one, the other transports left them, each taking their own separate route towards the capital.

In his peripheral vision Luke watched her. The way she’d been yesterday and how she was now focused on flying the ship told Luke that she was a woman who was able to concentrate well on the task at hand. He reckoned she was quite able to separate her personal life from her military one, a trait most welcome in an officer. Luke wondered about what kind of woman she was off-duty. He noticed the ring on her finger, which indicated she was married. So she wasn’t all military, she had been able to find enough time somewhere for romance and joy, even now. Or, maybe, especially now.

The Empire had been tightening its grip on the galaxy more and more for the past decade. It had been a slow progress. First one freedom went, then the other. Like a gentle tightening of the noose. Unnoticed until the rope was already becoming too tight. Luke had a feeling they had reached that point now. First they took his family’s wealth, then his father and now him…

At least they were still alive…

Helios. She recognised the name, the facial features, the slope of his nose; they were hard to miss. His family’s history was nearly legendary, and its fall even more so. She didn’t react to it, more to maintain respect for privacy than make him uncomfortable; enough time had passed that the name still held a respected level in society, but no more and no less than maybe, say Wendo. She was used to chatter while on patrol, so the quiet was a bit disconcerting. She had some theories percolating in her brain, and she wanted to know if she could trust him enough to share. But it was like a very hot tub of water; she’d have to ease in slowly before she could settle.

“You don’t talk much, do you Luke?” Kaj said conversationally as she managed the flight controls. It was a nice ride, and one that she could easily get lost in. The beauty of Corellia was hard to mistake, and it made her heart swell a little with pride and a great deal of fond memories. Rolling fields, farmers working the land; it was easy to forget that the Empire was here in full force. And right beside her too, but somehow, that didn’t feel right; Luke didn’t strike her as a cold-blooded psychopath, but she was known to be wrong before. She was concentrating on flying so she didn’t really turn her head, but could tell he was working some things out. Perhaps he was enjoying the scenery as much as she was. She could see the tall spires of Coronet in the distance, at least a little bit longer before they’d have to get out and travel the rest of the way on foot.

“Sorry,” she said, smiling as she glanced over at him briefly. “It’s just, I don’t know how long we’ll be on this mission,” or how long I’ll be alive after it’s over, was the implication, “and you don’t strike me as the silent and brooding type.” She shrugged and forged on. “Yesterday,” she said quietly, her voice soft and thoughtful, “you were as surprised as I was, weren’t you?” She let the question sit between them, and watched him cautiously out of the corner of her eye. And so she dipped in a toe.

Luke was so lost within his own thoughts that Wendo’s comment didn’t register at first. Luke wondered where his father was now. Even though they were both officers in the Imperial Navy, Command was keeping father and son isolated from each other. Luke didn’t quite understand why they did this. He didn’t understand a lot of things. Like what had happened “Yesterday,” she said quietly, her voice soft and thoughtful, “you were as surprised as I was, weren’t you?”

Luke sighed deeply and looked at Kaj. “With all that the Empire has done, with all that it plans to do, the list of things that surprise me grows thin. But if you ask if I knew anything about it beforehand, I didn’t…” He left the sentence unfinished as another piece of the puzzle fell into place. The downfall of his family, his father and him being taken away. He knew he hadn’t been the only one. Many other powerful families had undergone a similar fate. The Empire was systematically breaking down the cultural and political elite of Corellia…
It made a sick kind of sense, in a way. Luke knew it from the history books. Ancient civilisations, once mighty and proud. Invaded and defeated by new, younger powers with new, other ideologies. Once the old powers had been defeated, the new power had but two options to legitimise itself as ruler: to proclaim itself the legitimate successor to the fallen dynasty, keeping the cultural and political systems largely intact, or, history’s favourite: the utter destruction of it.

“I fear this is not only your life on the line here…” Luke spoke softly.

Kaj saw into the man in that moment, not the Imperial Naval pilot. No false bravado, no casual off-the-cuff response that diminished a man’s life by such a reference. Now she’d have to reassess her impression of Luke Helios, which was a very rare thing for her to do. Sighing deeply, she flicked on the auto-pilot; there wouldn’t be too many things to dodge, and the passive and active sensor sweeps that were automatically conducted fore and aft as they moved would continue without her having to look out the viewscreen. She didn’t even have to pilot the transport on such an easy run, but she did so to have an excuse not to look at an Imperial dog… Which it seemed, was not him.

They could have paired her with another person; she’d seen several milling about CPDF HQ, but they had picked a Corellian, and not just any Corellian either. Her loyalties laid with her planet -- their planet she mentally corrected -- and so this rather high profile mission, and the dramatics surrounding it had to have a farther-reaching purpose. He was right that it wasn’t just her life on the line, but his as well, and an odd sort of twist happened in her gut that felt unjustified and out of place. She swallowed whatever it was down, and turned to look at him, twisting sideways in her seat. “There’s a lot more riding on this mission than just you and I, Luke.” It felt even odder grouping herself with him, but she shook that off. They had a job to do, and if they didn’t bring back the escaped prisoner, she was absolutely positive that there’d be a hole in the head waiting for her next.

“So, let’s see if we can’t do some strategising while on our way in.” She smiled boldly, even though her eyes were still tinged with something akin to a confused disturbance. It might have even been melancholy, but she was doing her best to keep her own council on anything outside of duty. “How the hell did the prisoner escape?” she murmured. It was a bit disconcerting to consider that there might have been someone on the inside that had actually helped them escape. Or… No. It was unthinkable. But perhaps, just perhaps, the Imperials had LET them go. Because, and this was her cold logic centre at work, if the Imperials wanted an excuse to disband the local Defense Force, they could do it easily if they proved incompetence. One small sputtering loyalist light in the oncoming darkness. Now why had she imagined that?

Wendo’s face was open, her intelligent eyes had the smallest flash of anger before she pulled back inside of herself, and was the very picture of professionalism. Changing her tactics once more, she asked lightly, “If you were a Rebel prisoner, on the run from a whole force of Imperials, where would YOU go?”

How did the prisoner escape indeed? Luke had gone over the plans of the compound. It had been fully manned and operational on the night the prisoner escaped. This compound was one of the most advanced high tech bases the CPDF had. You name it, they had it. Holo-camera’s, sensor grids, multiple control hubs so that it was impossible to open all doors with a single switch. But it didn’t stop there, the surrounding area was strewn with surveillance tech, giving fair warning of anyone approaching, but also of anyone leaving. There was no way the prisoner had been able to do this on his own. So that left only two possibilities, he either had inside help, or… Luke’s eyes widened as he came to the same conclusion Kaj had been entertaining…

This changed matters. If the Empire wanted to disband the CPDF then why didn’t they just do so, like they had done to so many other local garrisons on so many other planets? Perhaps the Rebels had something to do with this. Since a couple of months there had been increasing reports of these Rebels attacking convoys, sabotaging surveillance stations, even an assassination a couple of weeks back. There had been small uprisings before, but this group calling themselves the Rebel Alliance were different, they were better organised, well-funded, more effective. They could become a real threat to the Empire if left unchecked…

Maybe the Empire was now starting to take a more subtle approach, again resorting to legitimising their actions by discrediting the CPDF first before taking over. Luke could see the sense in that. He’d already seen the holo news reporting the escape of this prisoner while simultaneously referring to the amateuristic incapability of the CPDF to keep their own prisoners from escaping… The people would buy this story much easier than a simple take-over. It would make the Empire seem like the hero, swooping in to put matters straight. Empire’s reputation went up, Rebel sympathy down. Effective. Simple. Sickening.

Yet here he was fighting their fight. All they needed now was for Kaj and Luke to fail, proving the incompetence of the CPDF and giving them a precedent to doubt Luke’s own loyalties, which would naturally lead to his father’s loyalties being questioned and then….

No, that was out of the question. They were going to find this prisoner and bring him back. Alive. So much depended on it…

Luke pondered Kaj’s question for a while, then said: “I’d hide where they’d never think to look in the first place...” A boyish grin appeared on his face, “inside the Devil’s nest itself.”

Kaj watched Luke closely, almost seeing the wheels turning in his head. He was intelligent, logical, and as a pilot, she knew he’d act quickly once his conclusions were reached. It’s what she would have done. Usually, there was no luxury in making a decision while in flight. Action, reaction, and anything more than that usually had dire and permanent consequences. She had seen that close up on more than one occasion. As he weighed his take on the situation, she considered the motivation behind such a move by the Imperials, if that’s what it was. They had been tenuously coexisting, but why was it so imperative now to disband them as an authority?

There had been skirmishes in the capitol, ones where their planetary forces were loathe to intervene, but when food riots infringed on the more well-to-do areas within the city limits? They called local law enforcement to take care of it. What was preferred by the rather autocratic upper crust of Corellian society was to open fire and lay the rioters to waste. But these were citizens that had been replaced by Imperial counterparts, and all they wanted was their due. Had it been Imperials instead of the CPDF, she was certain that they would have died. With her quick thinking and use of the external speakers on her Z-95, they dispersed the crowd without a single casualty and managed to restore order before the shopkeepers had to lose a day’s income. But that’s not what the Imperials wanted.

Perhaps that was why this whole thing came about.

Wendo thought about her husband Fandyl, who had probably been awoken rather abruptly by the alarms that she sounded before taking off for the search. It was odd, but she almost resented the fact that he was still there at HQ while she was off gallivanting around Coronet trying to save their precious local forces from the same fate as their former CO. Granted he had worked a late shift the night before… her eyes widened in some surprise. Surely he hadn’t been there when the prisoner escaped? It was true that he’d been in atmo, covering their standard patrol area, but still… he might be connected to the escape, and there might be final consequences meted out by that jovial Colonel. She swallowed a little, and paled at the thought of seeing him in the office with the neatest little hole where his brain ought to be...

She heard Luke’s response from the question that she’d posed what felt like a lifetime ago, and she looked up in time to see that rather attractive grin spread over his features. Shaking off the worry she felt and separating from that part of her life, she let the mood spread and she was soon grinning herself with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. “Then we’re going the wrong way,” she said abruptly, and contacted the search team. “Your orders are to continue spreading out in Blue Sector, and maintain radio silence, using Search Pattern Formation Delta 5 9er. Helios and I are checking out a hunch, and will rendezvous at the usual time.” She waited a moment. “If we are not, I repeat, not at the predetermined coordinates, you are to continue your search pattern, and we will attempt to make contact as soon as we possibly can.” Or we’ll be dead.

“Roger Delta Leader,” came the clipped response. “Radio silence is go.” The communications went dead except for the slightest underlying crackle, indicating that they were transmitting.

“Switching channels, Luke,” Kaj said and contacted HQ, more for her own peace of mind than anything else. “Search Pattern engaged and Radio Silence enforced,” she reported.

“Message received, Commander Wendo,” and she breathed a sigh of relief as she heard her husband’s voice. “We’ll hold down the fort here and update you with the sitrep as we receive it. HQ out.”

“Thank you,” she said warmly and then slid that hatch closed on any feelings she had. They were difficult to pin down at this point, but she was a professional and would deal with them in due course. “Wendo out.” Punching a small button, she went into hover mode as they considered their next step.

Turning back to Luke, she smiled easily and pulled up the holo representation of the Imperial section of Coronet. It showed winding streets, store fronts, restaurants, bars… a veritable cornucopia of places to hide all in flickering miniature. “Ok, prisoner,” she began, grinning as she said it. “You tell me where you might hole up.”

It sat between them in a small area of the cockpit. They could both look but it was a tight fit between them. Their heads were practically butting up one against the other as they reviewed the layout. She considered a few cross sections and ran a finger along one area, shifting closer to the image, trying to focus on the map and not the rather tight proximity of him. “Hmmm…” Kaj said and turned her face sideways, trying to give him more room without appearing to.

As the hologram of the city’s layout filled the small cockpit, Luke’s eyes widened. Holograms had always fascinated Luke, maps even more. So to look at a holographic representation of Coronet’s Imperial section bolstered the boyish enthusiasm in him. Immediately his attention focused on main buildings and streets, taking in every detail, copying every corner and every turn within his mind, familiarising himself with the layout. It didn’t take him long to orient himself. He started at the central square where all the main Imperial institutions and organisations were situated. Government buildings, museums and a University. In a circle outside the centre was the police station, a library, a hospital and the first residential areas.

Despite Luke’s strong focus on the hologram, he was aware of Kaj’s proximity to him. His eyes darted to hers for just a little instant, barely noticeable, as was the slight curve in his lips which gave only the tiniest of hints of a smile as he refocused upon the map.

Could the convict really be hiding here? It would’ve been extremely difficult for him to get here, but if he had somehow succeeded, once inside he’d might enjoy some freedom of movement instead of nothing at all… Luke saw that this section of Coronet was closest to the CPDF’s compound, so at least that strengthened him in his belief that this was the place to look…

One particular area caught Luke’s eye. A small residential area right next to the centre. The Imperial hospital right across the street. A military barracks on one corner and an Imperial Intelligence office on the next. Surrounded by the enemy on all sides, who would think of looking here? A dragon’s nest indeed..

“I spy with my little eye”, Luke spoke softly, and then pointed at the area with his finger before looking at Kaj, “What do you think?”

Captain Luce tried to chuckle at her nickname for him. "Aye Lass, It be me eye not me hand or whatever that be had. I'll see you shortly."

She shrugged and scratched at that dratted itchy spot just below the base of her lekku. "Take your time, Cyclops. Wouldn't want you to trip and fall down an airlock.... you know, due to your lack of depth perception..."

Another warble alerted to get that they were in system. Easing back on the controls, Azaria brought the Heart of Oak out of light speed, gut twisting a tiny bit at the dragging sensation from rapid deceleration.

She looked out at the planet growing large in the window and the flurry of space craft surrounding it, civilian and Imperial craft scurrying about like silver bugs on a pool of water. Azaria sailed down toward the other bugs, pridefuly imagining her ship a firefly among beatles.

"So Luce," she called out, "where are we headed? And do you think I should get dressed up for the occasion?"

That Azaria Me LAss 9s the problem. I have no clue how to find Captain Reau. Let me just let her Excellency know my location. You might want to get dressed up a wee bit but nothing overly formal. I don'ty want any competition for a fine lass like yourself.

Azaria glanced down at her rumpled, dusty outfit, and rubbed at a grease splotch on her knee. Yeah, she would likely need to change her pants, at the very least... "do you want me to go as myself or make like I'm yours... if this is a secret mission we get to have code names and false identities, right?"

She flicked a red tipped lekku in his direction and winked lecherously, "I think I have some body paint and a couple tassels around here somewheres."

Luce decided to drop his accent.
Personally Azaria I would simply change into a clean version of whatever you consider a uniform and such so that people will see you as an honest trader. I'd rather you didn't make yourself look like a proper slave or prostitute. Soon as we go down we'll maybe check a few of the better cantinas and other establishments for our mysterious Captain Reau. I'm going to try and change into something borderline between an Alliance uniform and civilian fare myself. being Hutt Space the Imperials might not have much of a presence here but no guarantees. Figure the Imperials at last reportsd have a small garrison on Tatooine. I'm going to carry the goods on me but I won't be revealing any of it except to Captain Reau.

Luce's sudden accent switch knocked Azaria right out of her usual playfulness.

"Roger that. I have a few clean flight suits of nondescript origin that should do - if you need anything feel free to pillage the crew quarters... I don't think any of my minions will be returning to us. They weren't to fond of my ties to the Alliance." She snorted and tossed a hand up, "hypocrites."

"I'll set us down on the nice side of town, and we can grab a speeder to get wherever we need after that."

Azaria squinted up at the looming brown and blackened hulk of Nal Hutta. Disgusting, polluted wasteland of a planet... just the perfect place for Hutts. What a sin, she thought, shaking her head. She'd grown up in the underbelly of Coruscant, barely ever seeing the sky, let alone a tree... and the diseased orb hanging above her had once been covered in [i]forests[i], oceans, and fields. She turned away, only to catch a glimpse of an Evocii slave hauling cargo crates across the spaceport. What a sin.

The wind blew in through the open bay doors, kicking up dust and sending the light cloak she wore over her grey and gold flight suit flapping wildly. She just managed to get it under control as Luce stalked down the gangway to join her.

"I've got us a nice, nondescript speeder. You don't know how tempted I was to rent the vintage swoop bikes they had there, fully restored." She smiled and jerked her head in the direction of said speeder. "shall we?

Since Luce was taking his time putting on his makeup, Azaria decided to go for a ride around town rather than wait in the dusty spaceport getting eyed up by lecherous workers and spacers.

The speeder she'd rented handled like a dream, and once she was out of town a ways she put pedal to metal and cruised past settlements, farms, and pollution-spewing factories. If you ignored the latter, you could almost imagine this planet before the Hutts arrived in system and made their takeover. She frowned into the wind on her face as she zoomed past fields where the systems native species, the Evokaii, wore slave collars and toiled under the hot red sun.

Unconsciously she reached a hand up to rub the spot where she'd once had a slave transmitter implanted in the flesh of her Lekku... the painful memory made her clench her teeth and she gunned the engines, coaxing more and more speed out of the machine. a bleep on the console broke her simmering rage and she realized she was nearly halfway across the tiny moon from the spaceport. Slowing, Azaria made a U-turn and headed back towards where she'd left the Heart of Oak and Luce.

The communicator bleeped again and she keyed the comms button. "yeah, I took the speeder for a run, will be back pronto."

"Roger that... actually, you might have to sit tight for a while..." Azaria trailed off as she heard claxons raising behind her in the Imperial outpost she'd just passed. Slowing, she risked a peek over her shoulder and got a good look at stormtroopers spilling out of the barracks like fleas from a bantha at bath time.

Already two speeders full of lightly armoured but highly armed troopers - the on duty troops, she guessed - were careening past her towards town... the rough side of town, no doubt.

She sighed a breath of relief as they passed the turn to the spaceport. It wasn't them the door knobs were after..

A gut feeling suddenly took her. It was one of those odd, tingling sensations that left her lekku feeling both heavy and light, her senses heightened and numbed them at the same. Whenever she got that feeling, she went with what her guts told her.
She gunned it after the Imperials.

Azaria followed them all the way to, as she suspected, the rough side of town where a bar brawl had turned into a massacre for the troopers who'd [in all honesty] probably started it.

She followed her guts again to the alley around back, slowing her speeder down to a crawl as patrons began spilling out the back exits and bolt-holes...
