Weston Patrick, sleepy little village where nothing ever happens. So long as you ignore the great big holes that had appeared overnight and the sudden implosion of the church, oh and the army blowing each other and some kind of paramilitary group away down the high street. Safe. Tucked away off the A339 in the middle of Hampshire. Also known as the place where this entire adventure had begun. Where one Esther Pennyfeather had retired. Where Fred had returned to them through the rift and where things went bump in the night more often than not. Weston Sleepy-because-we-ignore-it Patrick

The irony wasn't lost on Derowen. "Bet we land in a hole." she muttered a moment before the pod crashed into the ground.

The restraints holding them in place strained with the force of the impact. Straps creaked, panels blew with sparks showering across the interior. With a sad little pop, something ignited and smoke began to fill the pod.

It took a few tense moments to get the door opened. Some fast rewiring by Grace and Gavin, more than a bit of swearing by Wen.. but the door slid sideways suddenly. Light, and more importantly air, spilled into the pod.

"Oh this isn't going to be fun." muttered Derowen. The door was, as designed, above ground. Several feet above ground. Slightly more than several feet if they were pedantic about it.

The pod had come to a rest, tilted at a crazy angle, in a farmers field. With another dash of irony, it was the very one that Fred had jumped through his rift to get home. At some point in the future it would be worth bringing equipment and such back here to take readings in case there were some serious fissures in the fabric of space and time in the vicinity. Wen wryly made a note and promptly forgot about it.

Right now, it was all that they could do to simply stand on their own feet. It was a struggle to get the uninjured out of the pod, with the door high above the ground. Then an even harder task to get the injured or simply.. well.. catatonic out. Rubin's eyes were glazed, though no obvious injury was apparent. Both Nigel and Nathan simply didn't respond and had to be bodily lifted clear.

Derowen insisted on being the last out of the pod. When she scrambled clear, and perched on the lip of the doorway to look around and see what was going on.

The afternoon was one of those beautiful lazy Spring ones. The sun was neither too hot nor the breeze too biting. Judging by the angles in the shadows, it was about 4pm or so.

Each of them showed the rigours of the time spent battling the odds. Derowen was still not sure if they'd won, or suffered an enormous defeat. She did, however, know that some of her people were down and she didn't think that there was much hope.

"They'll have to go to the Torchwood Hospital." She said quietly about Nathan, Nigel and Ruben. "It's some distance. But once we get to a phone, I can make the arrangements."

She walked to each of them then. Grateful that they were all here, in one form or another. Exchanging hugs, even with Gavin, touching cheeks. Wiping away tears that pooled in her own eyes as she ignored the gaping hole left by Penny and John. She checked in with them all.

"I am so glad." she kept saying with a genuine smile. "So glad you're here. For a time there, I wondered if we… " Something else caught her eye. Primroses in the hedge. Cheerful rounds of bright yellow growing wild, as they did every single year.

She frowned.

"Spring?" she muttered. "It's Spring? Can't be.. it was Winter only three days ago."

TAG all

A sound broke in on the group then. The sound of phones receiving messages… lots and lots of messages.

Quin had switched his phone to silent when they'd got into the 'Big Boy' in what seemed like an eon ago. It began to vibrate as calls came through. It made him jump, he thought he'd jettisoned it when they were being chased, obviously not. He smirked at Grace and sighed.

"No I'm not pleased to see you," he said, "but it seems as if someone has missed me while I've been away. Knew she wouldn't be able to stay away."

He pulled the mobile out of his pocket and checked the display. "You have 823 missed calls."

Gavin emerged from the pod and took a long, deep breath and allowed the sun's rays to fall upon the exposed sections of his pallid skin. There had been more than one instance on board that ship when the man had questioned whether or not he would again see upon that glowing ball of hydrogen and helium gas. This moment of peace was quickly interrupted by the simultaneous ringing and buzzing of his companion's mobile devices. Gavin wasn't really all too surprised by this occurrence if what both Derowen and Quin had just said was accurate. His own mobile device however, remained silent - and it only took him a few moments to come to a conclusion.

"I suppose I don't exist in this world..." he said quietly. ".. I haven't even got a signal."

He now found himself standing upon the soil of what in a way he supposed, was an alien world. Then, quite suddenly his stomach sank with the realization that in time everyone he knew would believe him dead. Sure they would maintain hope that he might turn up for awhile, but ultimately Gavin knew that he was now a man alone. He did his best to conceal these private thoughts, but his eyes betrayed him and they began to glass over.

Unceremoniously dumped on the ground and without an idea of what the hell was going on. After all, there was what, a rather loud thump after they landed? Punkin Thomas smoothed down her clothing and sighed a deep sigh that could only be provided by someone who had literally been thrown clear across space and time and landed in time for tea. Even with the hussle and bustle of getting everyone out of the pod, it did afford her a brief moment to peek underneath and look for some sparkly shoes and stripey socks.

Everyone had electronics and she was about to reach for hers when she remembered she had tossed her phone from the bus at the beginning of this adventure. They were hunted by the alleged 'good guys' when it was determined that Torchwood had been tracked by their phones. That meant she might find it close to where they originally crossed over. But it wasn't bloody likely, was it?

Nor was it bloody likely that anyone would have left her any messages since the majority people she really knew had gone in the hole to Camelot with her. And anyone else wouldn't be likely to do much other than commit her to a looney bin for suggesting such rubbish. They were in the holey place. Weston Patrick.

Not the holy place. And Punkin cast her mind back to the rather dilapidated church that was literally in ruins before they left. But now, there was the culprit, heading off for care at a facility while the others were simply righting themselves in the midst of the recovery.

When Wen had given her that hug, Punkin pulled the ring out and plopped it in her palm. "Like you asked," she said simply. "I'm so very sorry about... well, everything." It was a whisper, followed by a gentle kiss, and a tight squeeze, meant to let Wen know that Punkin was there for her friend.

~Tag Wen

It hadn't really occurred to her in the fresh, lush greenery in which they stood. How the wind wafted lazily through the budding fields nor the smells of nature blending in with the acrid smoke. But Wen was right. It WAS Spring, and they had left in Winter.

There was no question about the where they were. But now there was a question about the WHEN.

Grace blinked in the sunshine as she stepped out of the pod. Other people's phones were going off. For a moment, she wondered why hers wasn't, then she remembered - she had ditched it in case she was being followed.

God, it felt like forever ago.

All the precaution's she'd taken. A quick check confirmed, her purchase from the chemist was still nestled in her jacket pocket. A goodly wodge of cash in her purse. So where would she go from here?

She looked up at the clear blue sky. Very blue... and very... very clear.

"Wen... isn't this place near Basingstoke? That's about 40 miles from Heathrow... Last time I saw the sky that clear was just after 9/11..."

For the second time in fifteen years, Fred looked around him and thought. I'm home. Well at least on his Earth in the correct time period and dimension. He spun round as various ringing went off, only to relax again, as he realised it was just phones going off.

Well at least he didn't have a phone to go off. He was tempted briefly to pull out his PDA, but with Torchwood Ten in lockdown, there didn't seem a point. He turned to Derowen to ask about Torchwood Ten when she spoke.

"Spring?" she muttered. "It's Spring? Can't be.. it was Winter only three days ago."

Fred shrugged his shoulders. About all he could remember was the rain. He hadn't had time to catch up on much of anything. So the season made no difference to him what so ever.
"Can you get Torchwood Ten out of lockdown, or do we get another base." Fred asked.

Wen's arms tightened around Punkin. "So glad we're home." she murmured. "Feel like Tintagel is such a dream now." With a regretful sigh, she let Punkin go.

TAG - Punkin

Derowen walked a few feet away after Punkin hugged her, still looking around the field with a frown. She thought about the comments and questions before turning back towards the others.

"Sky's clear. Good point Grace. Wonder what year this is. Wonder why there aren't any planes. We're right on the Gatwick flightpath here if I remember properly. If the phones are going off, then we're at least within a year or two of our original origin. Can anyone with ringing or buzzing bits of technology check the date? Eve? Do you have your phone handy?"

TAG - all

"Right - in no particular order. Grace - yes we're near Basingstoke. Sort of South of it. New Chap, what is your name by the way? New Chap, Don't worry. We will get you sorted out, it's what we do. For a living I mean. You must exist in this world. You're standing on it." She started counting on her fingers to see if she remembered everything that she needed to reply to.

TAG - Gavin

"Quin, of course she misses you. Bet you're good in bed and all that delicious stuff. Rift Chick, you're Torchwood from sometime right? By all means, take them to the Hospital. We can arrange transport from Penny's house. Also get cleaned up and into something else clothes wise. I hope there are clothes there. Does anyone remember clothes there? Suppose we can go break into Nigels house too, see if he's got anything worth using."

TAG - Quin
TAG - Camron

She stopped and took a deep breath. Then grinned happily.

"Damn, it's good to be home." Her voice was cheerful. "We should get a move on. Penny's house first. I'm pretty sure I know where the spare key will be. Clean. Food. When was the last time we ate? It was here, right?"

Her eyes met Freds and she wagged a finger at him. "Fred, Fred, Fred." She chided. "Of course I can get back into Torchwood Ten. There are three people who can and I'm one of them. Built the place, after all. You should know better. Consider yourself spanked and in need of getting me a nice big cup of tea when we get into the house."

Eve thought he had dumped his phone, like most of the others had, but there it was in his pocket. By now he stopped questioning things like that, and merely looked at the screen. "Bloody hell, no wonder its Spring, its been six months since we last saw this place." He stared again at his phone,, his fingers flying. "My message inbox is full. N's been replaced as head of MI-6."

That he couldn't believe. Six months and no N. It was a like a dream. "Crikey, I wonder what happened to my cat?"

Turning to Punkin he grinned at her. "Well Moneypenny, it looks like we have a job ahead of us."

He did wonder though why there were no airplanes or even people about. Maybe they had gotten their dimensions crossed or something. "We can get into Ten only if this is the correct universe. What's that Star Trek term, the Mirror Universe?"

Tintagel. After Camelot, The Hub and going through yet another Rift, IT seemed more like a dream than the others. More like unpeeling pieces of a life to get closer to the heart or the centre. The briefest of shared moments between she and Wen, but enough for Punkin to know that what had been there before was still there. Nothing could shake something that strong. And as she looked up, and Grace looked up, it seemed even more noticeable.

"What the hell has happened? I mean, what'd we miss?"

Apparently a lot from the sounds of the telephones, the ringing, ring tones and alarms becoming a symphonic cacophony which threatened for a moment. Then the energy, which crackled almost all around them through her body, dissipated.

Turning to Punkin Eve grinned at her. "Well Moneypenny, it looks like we have a job ahead of us."

Flashing a smile, she nodded. "Oh, Double 0," she said. "Feels like we all do." The drop in her gut, and her knees almost buckling. She tried to cover the slip, but it didn't stop her from noticing. Whatever had happened, whatever had stopped the planes from flying and from them moving on? It was not over yet.

Quin shrugged. "Joy," he said. "Considering he is about a foot taller than I am I'll look just wonderful in Nigel's clothes. I seem to remember having a bag with some clothes in it. Just can't remember where I left it."

He looked at his phone as if it might bite him. Quin could also remember that he and Lucy hadn't exactly left on the best of terms, if she was calling him it was not going to be good news. A sudden cold trickle of fear ran down his back. He didn't even want to think about why she might be calling. He'd always been careful, of course he had. Quin sat down rather suddenly on the grass. He looked round, maybe no one had noticed. If they had he could always say that he felt a little shaky after the roller coaster ride they'd just undertaken.

Fred flashed a smile at Derowen.
"Just needed to check Boss," He said. With a wink he tore his eyes of Derowen and looked up at the Pod. An Interesting way to travel, but if he was going to go through another rift, he'd step through it on foot next time. "The only way to rift hop," He muttered to himself.

He turned his attention to Camron who was babbling on again.
"Hey Kid, we're you a nurse in your time line? Cause if not, then their better off in the hospital."

A chill. Through his tattered blue shirt. In the air. In Grace's voice. Something about like after 9/11.

Dazzling sunlight. Rubin blinked blue eyes at the sun above green hills. They seemed highly familiar. Weston Patrick. He hadn't been away long, but he couldn't remember where he'd been.

That smell. Strong. Familiar, too. He inhaled.

His voice came out ragged like he hadn't spoken in months. "Sheep dung and...." He scented like a perfume aficionado. "....brussel sprouts."

He looked around. Nearby a strange pod protruded from rows of leafy plants and long blades of grass growing lushly in between. Its rakish angle reminded Rubin of the artillery shell Jules Verne had landed on the moon in.

Nathan and Nigel lay motionless. A lanky guy Rubin didn't know gazed around like he was seeing everything here for the first time; a look Rubin had seen on Rift Chick when she first arrived. She hovered over Nathan and Nigel looking robustly no worse for wear.

Like demented birds, phones beeped, tweeted and chorused. Everyone startled, but most habitually reached for their phone. Rubin habitually pulled up his.

Full bars. Time: 4:37 PM. No messages.

Quin had looked intently at his phone, his hard face betraying trepidation. He sat suddenly and then looked around quickly like a man guilty of some inner transgression.

Rubin sauntered over and crouched nearby. "Sheep dung."

With hazel eyes through strands of dark blonde hair Quin gave him a look that bordered on a lethal lack of humor.

Rubin smiled and waved a hand to the leafy greens Quin sat on. "These brussle sprouts are fertilized with sheep dung."

> Tag Quin

Rubin offered Quin a hand. Quin grabbed his forearm. Rubin took some of Quin's weight as the man got to his feet. Rubin gestured his phone in the direction of Quin's. "Maybe you want to trade? I got no messages whatsoever." He smiled sadly.

> Tag Quin, all

Rubin said to Quin. "Hey, maybe Nigel has a couple of stretchers or litters back at his place. They'd make carrying him and Nathan a lot easier.

The voice sounded rusty but it was a familiar one. Derowen grinned even wider than she had been a few moments before.

She turned towards the owner of the voice. Ruben. Awake and moving. Even helping Quin. She couldn't find the words to say at how grateful she was for the sight. Just hoped that her expression was enough.

She, sadly, had to break the moment.

"That," she said, indicating the pod. "Will get us a lot of attention. Best we move on now. Penny's house first. Get Nigel and Nathan some help. Listen all of you, I don't care whether you think you've got a home in this dimension or not, you've got a place with us. Survivors. We'll get you sorted. Come on now."

Quin physically jumped. He looked down at the greenery and almost snarled at it. "Knew nothing good could ever come of all this green stuff," he said.

Rubin offered Quin a hand. Quin grabbed his forearm. Rubin took some of Quin's weight as the man got to his feet. Rubin gestured his phone in the direction of Quin's. "Maybe you want to trade? I got no messages whatsoever." He smiled sadly.

This time Quin's usual good humour reasserted itself. "You're welcome to them all," he said. "Somehow I don't think they'll be any kind of good news."

He hit the phone's off button and slipped it back into his pocket. Time enough to deal with the messages and missed calls later. Odd how his battery hadn't run out.

Rubin said to Quin. "Hey, maybe Nigel has a couple of stretchers or litters back at his place. They'd make carrying him and Nathan a lot easier.

"It's possible," Quin replied. "If you're up for it we could go take a look."

Taking a quick swallow, she pushed her hand down and found the other thing she had managed to secret away in her pocket. Her charm necklace went back to its proper place and whatever residuals she may have felt were now easier dealt with. So where would her assistance be most appreciated? She wasn't sure, but heading to Penny's place was the plan.

The voice was a little worse for wear, but she remembered it well enough. Turning to take notice, the relief on Punkin's face was obvious. Through the chill, through the halls of Camelot, he had been subdued, and then, when everything erupted, so apparently, had Rubin. But now? He was up and moving. A smile played gently across her lips briefly, and then she settled in on getting things and people to Penny's first. He and Quin were busy with the others, and had Rift Chick standing by.

With things looking familiar, and now, feeling familiar, she realized two things utmost in her mind.

1. That she needed a drink of the stiff, strong and bottomless variety; and 2? If she didn't eat something very soon, she might have to deal with sheep dung and sprouting brussel sprouts.

Gavin looked less lost, but Brock? He had shut down. So Punkin moved to him, to lend a hand, support, or anything else he might need. After all, the Wolf had been especially cruel to him, what with killing and then resurrecting Penny. And now, with her gone from this world and the other, they would be squatting at her home to get their bearings.

Penny.

Esther Pennyfeather's home.

And for the first time since this had all begun, she truly allowed herself to miss her. However she got there, it wouldn't be soon enough...

"What needs doing?" Punkin asked. Because if one didn't ask, one might never know. But if nothing? Then that was pretty self-explanatory, and she walked slowly in case there might be some takers.

Rubin said to Quin. "Hey, maybe Nigel has a couple of stretchers or litters back at his place. They'd make carrying him and Nathan a lot easier."

"It's possible," Quin replied. "If you're up for it we could go take a look."

Rubin and Quin turned to face the spire of Weston Patrick's church peeking over a distant high hedge. Both men lifted a foot from the brussel sprouts and grass.

From behind Wen's husky command voice carried clearly, forcing both men to freeze momentarily. Rubin replanted his foot, swung his shoulders around and turned his head in time to see Derowen pointing an alabaster hand.

"Ah." Rubin said to Quin. "Forget the litters. We get to lug 'em the old fashioned way."

Punkin's long and lovely orange-red hair floated upward in a light breeze, bunched into a loose teardrop, canted over and fluttered gently uphill like a red candle flame. Her violet eyes seemed to glow not reflected sunlight but from a power source of her own. The tall willowy woman stood fetchingly hipshot. Rubin felt himself staring with unabashed appreciation.

Her voice was sultry. "What needs doing?"

Rubin started back toward where Nathan and Nigel lay. He said loud enough for the group in general, his voice rough like he'd already yelled it out, "I think we have enough people for each of us to grab an arm or a leg. It'll be awkward, even undignified, but doable and over quick enough. Who knows the way to Penny's house?"

Fred wondered over to the two unconscious members of there team. Nathan and Nigel. He wondered what exactly had happened to them, but shrugged it off. He listened as those around him talked about what to do, smirking to himself as Derowen laid her plan down. He glanced up as he heard her voice, then glanced to Quin and Rubin.

With a slight shake of his head, he grabbed Nigel's arm, and swung Nigel's limp body over his shoulder before standing up.
"I don't think we have time to mess around with four people to a body. Especially as that'll make walking difficult for the four carriers." He took two steps before stopping and looking over at Derowen.

"Er, which way?" He asked, with Nigel's head bumping gently against his back.

Gavin blinked his eyes a few times to clear his sight and turned his gaze in Derowen's direction upon realizing that it was in fact him whom she was addressing as 'New Chap'. This talk of sorting things out for a living interested the man, but he would rather sort himself out before entrusting his life to a group of strangers whom he knew little about.

"The name's Gavin - and I shouldn't have too much difficulty acquiring a proper identity once I regain access to the net. To do that though I'll need to make a few adjustments to my PDA's sim card. A quiet place to work for a half-hour or so and a few rudimentary tools is all I'll need." he replied.

Having responded to the lady in charge Gavin then allowed himself to take in whatever he could from the conversations going on all around him between the various members of this group he found himself attached to. His attention was once again drawn to Derowen, however, when she had given the order to mobilize her band into action. He gave the woman a quick nod of his head to show that he was prepared to follow her direction at present.

Raising an eyebrow at Fred and then back at Quin and Rubin, she chuckled a little and leaned over to give Rubin a quick brush of her lips on his cheek, squeezing Quin's shoulder gently. "Welcome back to the land of the living," Punkin said. "Don't know when we are, but as long as Torchwood sticks together, we should be good, should we not?"

There was no way she could truly express how she felt. But she would do what needed to be done, even if Fred decided to move bodies like sacks of potatoes. "I'm so good with NOT doing that with Nathan," Punkin said. "The man's HUGELY tall, and more than one set of hands makes sense to me."

After all, his face would drag along the ground... not one of them was taller than 6 foot. And that gave 8 extra inches or so on Nathan. Where it counted most. ON HIS HEAD, you rude monkeys.

All ready to go. Just needed the word...

Punkin gave Rubin a quick brush of her lips on his cheek, squeezing Quin's shoulder gently. "Welcome back to the land of the living," Punkin said. "Don't know when we are, but as long as Torchwood sticks together, we should be good, should we not?"

Rubin grinned in agreement at the agreeably fiery redhead, but then his face slackened. "I actually don't know where I've been." He raised a hand. "Don't tell me now. I might slip back--wherever. Let's move Nathan first."

Punkin regarded him inscrutably and then waved a hand at Fred and his burden. "I'm so good with NOT doing that with Nathan," Punkin said. "The man's HUGELY tall, and more than one set of hands makes sense to me."

Camron fixed her azure gaze on Rubin. "Why don't I have a scout about and see if I can find some sort of small car or van to load us all into. You never know, I might find something."

Rubin took in the 20-something Rift Chick. He had to look up because the blonde was a full two inches taller. She looked clad in next century's street urchin attire. "Great idea, Cam, but Wen wants us to move out. We can lug Nathan to Penny's before you find transport."

He gave the tattooed blonde a lopsided smile. "You'll accidently boost the local constable's van and leave ruts right up to us. So, it'll be a lot quicker and quieter if you grab your favorite body part of Nathan and help us lift. You too, Punkin. Heave ho."

He grabbed Nathan's left ankle with both hands and lifted. The big man, lifted by only one leg, remained firmly planted on the brussel sprouts and grass.

Punkin's eyebrow raised as she looked between them all. "I don't think first of all that Nathan would appreciate me lifting up my favorite body part," and gave a slight nod back at Eve. "Nope, not me. But, I'll grab whatever's easiest, and will help out the most." Then she winked.

Rubin looked a little worse for wear. Wherever he had gone in Camelot, she would not enlighten him. "There's plenty of time to figure things out," she said to him gently, and then turned her attention to the task at hand. "Oy, Eve!" Punkin called. "If you're not too busy, you big, burly man... you should come and help us take Nathan into town. It'd be faster with more."

Purposely ignoring Fred the show off, she looked at their group and appreciated the cooperative efforts that they could accomplish. Together. "Shall we?" she asked bluntly, waiting for a collective heave ho...

"The name's Gavin,” the new arrival replied, “and I shouldn't have too much difficulty acquiring a proper identity once I regain access to the net. To do that though I'll need to make a few adjustments to my PDA's sim card. A quiet place to work for a half-hour or so and a few rudimentary tools is all I'll need." he replied.

Grace pulled her backpack off and rummaged for a moment, producing a set of delicate watchmaker's screwdrivers and a slender wallet of other tiny tools.

“Here – it's only on loan, mind,” she threw them over to him

TAG – Gavin

She looked over at Rubin and Punkin's attempts to lift Nathan. Sure the guy was tall and stocky, but the way they were struggling, it was as if he had a mini black hole in his back pocket. Mind you, given Nathan's track record, that was a possibility she couldn't rule out...

She moved over to join them and grabbed his right ankle. “On three. One... two...”
