The Monarch. A proud ship, with a nearly proud past. She stood in the takeoff zone of the shipyard, the sun gleaming from the curved lines of her body and creating the image of what she must have looked like in her prime.

You could barely see the repairs. If’n you were even looking for them.

The final arrangements had been made. A remarkably short length of time had passed since the wedding fracas.

Lao, it seemed, had pulled some strings in order to get them off planet as fast as possible. It could be suspected that he had a wish to see the back of the crew that had been involved in at least two major incidents in one day.

The crew had finished getting their belongings out of Li Valeria’s house. Kynthia had smiled sadly as she finished up the transaction with Li. They had been able to settle part of their bill, and she made arrangements that the ship would send a percentage of their income along over the next six months to cover the rest.

As they all left, Rick and his crew nodded to the folks. The old bodyguard and his crew had a bit more respect for their guests after they held their own during the wedding.

With a great deal of trepidation, Sol fired up the engines prior to takeoff. A delighted grin lit the faces of the regular crew at the smooth rumble from them. The Old Girl was alive and talking to them again.

It seemed that Chuy had managed to get himself a flock, who stood forlornly to one side of the ship as they made the final preparations to leave. Several of the rough folk and their families watched in silence, hands held tightly to each other. One or two with tears rolling down their faces. One little girl was sent forward to him with a dusty handful of flowers clutched in her grubby hand.

There was still some concern about Chris. The bullet was lodged somewhere in his leg, none of the local doctors was able to get at it, for fear of damaging the artery it was nestled next to. They had determined that it had fragmented slightly on impact, so there was also the question of whether it had sharpness to tear through the delicate tissues in his leg. One of the doctors had mentioned within hearing that there was a definite possibility of it traveling in the actual artery itself. So he was more or less confined to one area.

No, that did not make Lu a happy wife in the least.

Mav pressed the front dock to start the loading and unloading process. He waved the people in, which this was a mixed lot. A blend of young and old. Even rich and poor. An old woman had a package of veggies as her only payment. However, the crew waved her in still and pointed her to the kitchen.

As the passengers arrived to get settled in for their journey, the crew moved to help them onboard. The sooner they were in, the sooner they could all take off and get off this planet. Tarragon had taken over the kitchen upon sight. Kynthia glad to let it out of her hands.

As the woman came into the kitchen, she dropped the package for Tarragon and nodded to her. Tarra heartily thanked the woman for the fresh goods and offered a cup for drinks to her.

Kynthia waited for the last of the boarders to get loaded in before she could raise the ramp. She looked out over the small crowd that had gathered to wish them well. Or, in at least one or two cases, wish them to get the gorram hell off their planet, thanking you very much. Her eyes saddened slightly as she saw someone who looked suspiciously like Svek in the shadow of one of the buildings nearby. He could have been an asset to the crew in the short term. Selene had taken a liking to him an’ all. There was another odd shadow lurking in the doorway of another building, but all that Ky was able to make out, was the vague impression of a smooth head and wings. She dismissed it as unimportant.

Mav also took a look around at the buildings. As he saw what was thought was Svek, he just shook his head sadly. He then saw the person with a smooth head and noticed the person staring right at him. He looked back and saw the person disappear quickly.

Then her eyes suddenly sharpened. She looked at Mav with a furious gesture.

“Cap’n, You’re gonna be needed to stop me right shortly. Afore I slay with my own two bare hands the bastard what left me and Merry standin’. Rick Ryder is in the crowd out here.”

With no more warning than that, she jumped from the side of the ramp and pushed her way through the crowd, heading directly towards the man who was once the Captain of the Monarch.

"Woman, the hell you trying to pull out here?!!" He walked as quickly as he could and tried his best to keep up with Kynthia. Of course, he was failing miserably.

“YOU!” she yelled, pointing a stiff finger at Rick. “Finally found your way outta the rock you slimed under then?” She stood in front of him, crossing her arms and not quite managing to get any more words out. In the end, she settled for jabbing him on the arm.

“Well.. well.... Get yourself over to the ship, you got some ‘splaining to be doing.”

Maverick stopped and tried to pull her back and nodded to the man. "Don't know who you are, but we got one more bed. I say you do what the woman says, mister..."

OOC: This was written by Tavey and I. And welcome the man known as Rick Ryder back home, folks.

Sitting up on the bridge doing a double checking everything, Lu was just waiting for the word to take off. She looked nothing like the bride everyone would have seen recently, for she was back in her grungy looking clothes with her hair a mess. Turning her chair somewhat, she glanced down the hallway of rooms and wondered what was taking so long for her to get the okay to take off.

Engines had been fired up, Sol seemed ready to test them out and see how well they could fly. Shaking her head, the blonde pilot now turned back to look over everything. Now she wished she could see more out the window that was there, but trying to see down below the ship was a challange.

Tapping her fingers lightly on the buttons in front of her, she never actually pressed one. Waiting was not something she really enjoyed doing, but knew there must be a good reason for it. Glancing to her left hand, she still wasn't used to the new ring being there, but it was something that made her happy deep inside. At this moment, they had a job to do, get Ameri back safe and sound.

Chris felt useless, stuck in one of the passenger dorms because he couldn't walk on ladders or stairs. It had been a challenge just to get him here without moving his leg around to much. He had heard finally what the doctors had said and understood why he had to stay off his feet unless necessary. That didn't mean he didn't like it.

Staring at one of the blank walls across from him, he let out a sigh and looked down at the cards in front of him. He bout had won a game of solitaire, though for some reason, did not feel much like placing the last card. It sat in his hand, being twirled around between his fingers. He knew they'd be taking off soon, which meant they were going after Ameri.

He could hear the engine turning because of how quiet it was. Sounded much better than when they had lan...er...crash landed when they got here. Letting out a sigh, he put the last card down on its stack and scooped up the cards. "7 out of 12, can't even beat my own personal solitaire record," he said to himself as he shuffled the cards up and started again.

Tarra busied and bustled, settling in her own gear amongst the gleaming newness in the Kitchen of the Monarch. Hardly able to keep herself focussed on one task alone, she had managed to get a few Welcome Drinks fixed and ready for those that were passengers and crew that had finished their prepping. And she set two off to the side for the Pilot and her man. No use that they couldn't get to the kitchen and end up with naught.

With the vegetables that this latest passenger had dropped off, that should see them fair for at least a few days. And if her storage container was working well, she could look into her Airlock Jury Rig and manage to keep a few of them frozen in the waste of space without draggin the ship any and still have some well into the journey. Her garden bunks stowed and her own knives, pots and pans and sundries spread; that would keep them well and truly going. Just leaving planet side in the morning, so a nice lunch would be called for... Perhaps some left-over beast sandwiches from the Weddin?

The engines started up and the hum that ensued permeated her clean through to her bones. It always gave her a bit of a start and then her toes would fair curl with the idea that she was on the move again. And still as Tarragon Hunter, she inwardly shrugged... as long as this gig held out, there might be no need to change it again.

So... she took a look at the sterile kitchen and realized it needed a touch or two to make it homey and welcoming. Not much of a decorator, she thought that it might be a good idea to have some pictures, paintings or at least some colour amongst the gleam to make them as were partial to, feelin a bit settled. Somethin at least a little kitchen-y rather than just the knives and pots hangin on the walls.

Sniffin, she realized that something more immediate might be able to be accomplished. Maybe she could bake some bread or cookies? With her Thinking Chef Hat on, she considered that it might be a good idea to put everyone at ease a little with the wondrous smell of home-baked cookies. Not sure which ones might be best, she set her mind to makin them basic sugar cookies in circular shapes - the look was only secondary to the atmosphere she was lookin to introduce. After all, it had been one hell of a gorram two weeks and one could NEVER underestimate the wholly satisfyin and healin feelin of smellin home cookin. And eatin it afterwards. She was bound and determined to make those passengers as came aboard feel welcome and well and truly satisfied with the money they had paid to come with them.

Starting the dough, she took a quick size up of everything left... there would have to be some considerable rationing with eggs, but these cookies took very little and she knew a few recipes where they wouldn't even be called for to make breads and such. And besides, she had prepped some doughs before they left planet-side in consideration of their possible predicaments over the next little while.

Tarra opened the storage bin and removed two of the precious eggs. And beside the vegetables and extras, there was one plate of food, complete with a piece of wedding cake and all of the fixins set aside for Ameri. She would appreciate the care she took to keep it well-preserved. That way when they found her safe - and hungry - it would be a double celebration...

Maverick stopped and tried to pull her back and nodded to the man. "Don't know who you are, but we got one more bed. I say you do what the woman says, mister..."

Kynthia glowered at both of the men with her. She scowled at Rick especially hard. Then a sudden twinkle leapt in her eyes and her mouth twitched.

"Captain Maverick of the Monarch, may I introduce you to Captain Rick Ryder. Once captain of a ship you might be knowin'?" She pointed at the ship behind them. "He used to be the one runnin' the Old Girl. An' he was the one what left me and Merry behind."

She looked around and shook her head in a sharp motion. "Now. On the ship. We can talk there. We need to be gettin' off this planet Rick and right sharp. We can drop you anywhere you're wanting, an' I promise not out of an airlock."

She looked pointedly at the both of them and motioned her head towards the ship. "Any time you're thinkin' on it gentlemen."

Rick couldn't believe is fortune. Or at this point, misfortune depending on the way that life was about to head. A full month off out of the mines breaking big rocks into small rock, a daring rescue/prison break, and low an behold now he stood in front of the ship he once called home. She's had some work done to her, and gorram if the she didn't have a nice new sheen of paint on her, but nothing could hide the true beauty she was.

“YOU!” she yelled, pointing a stiff finger at Rick. “Finally found your way outta the rock you slimed under then?” She stood in front of him, crossing her arms and not quite managing to get any more words out. In the end, she settled for jabbing him on the arm.

Rick was brought back from his thoughts by the girl yelling like a banshee.

“Well.. well.... Get yourself over to the ship, you got some ‘splaining to be doing.”

Maverick stopped and tried to pull her back and nodded to the man. "Don't know who you are, but we got one more bed. I say you do what the woman says, mister..."

"Reckon you're right, Cap'n." Rick "Seems to me young Kynthia here would like a word or three."

Rick nodded to the Captain in greeting.

She looked around and shook her head in a sharp motion. "Now. On the ship. We can talk there. We need to be gettin' off this planet Rick and right sharp. We can drop you anywhere you're wanting, an' I promise not out of an airlock."

"Well, that would be appreciated." Rick drawled.

She looked pointedly at the both of them and motioned her head towards the ship. "Any time you're thinkin' on it gentlemen."

Ryder hefted his bag and stepped up the ramp. He took a deep breath of the old girl. She was prettified and full of life, but she still smelled the same. Well, not quite the same. "Is that cookies I smell?" He asked, fully expecting the scent of greased metal, charge powder, and sweat. "That don't seem proper."

Rick tossed his gear in an empty corner of the hold. He sat quietly knowing full well there'd be hell to pay once they hit the Black.

On the Monarch, things seemed mostly as normal, except for Chris in his unusual resting place in the passenger quarters and the new presence of Tarra in the galley. In the corridor heading toward the bridge, one door remained closed. Two dragonflies had been painted on it, hand-drawn with the script of a girl's name overhead. The dragonflies waited in silence for the room's occupant to return, in vain.

There were other marks of the girl's familiar presence on the ship she called home. The overly clean, scrupulously tidy infirmary was one- waiting for a patient for Ameri to work on. And there were other marks, here and there, mostly in the form of paintings decorating the walls. A line of figures above a doorframe or in a corner. Pillows arranged on the lounge couch outside the infirmary. Although Ameri herself was elsewhere, the marks of her work almost seemed to say, "I am here."

Sol jumped back from some sparks that sputtered across his engine room. "Okay," he said aloud to himself "The pos lead there has power... Might have to tape it up."

"No worries now though, we're gonna fly."

Sol cranked a lever to the on position and prayed aloud to himself, "C'mon you old bastard, spin!" Almost on cue the new engine spun and roared with power. Sol grinned and took a moment to look at his work.

He stooped down and got a rag to wipe his hands when something happened. He wasn't sure what though. There was a great smell that followed it. It was like burnt oil lines, but sweet almost pleasant.

The engine was running fine though, what could be the problem? Sol rolled his sleeves up and started re-checking the engines.
Here's some nice shiny courtesy of our own Rick Ryder...

Joshua Long stood in is full religious dress suit directing the folks in the cargo bay and helping to get everyone settled in. He knew a lot of the faces he saw; people from around the docks waiting to get off world. These had been waiting for passage cheap enough to allow their escape from the bloated economy of the core, where if you weren't already in the union, you were not getting the job. The task went quickly enough, even with a personal interview between Maverick, Kynthia and a passenger going on in the midst.

The engines came to life shaking the frame of the ship in a smooth vibration that spoke of stability and health. This brought a broad smile to the itinerant preacher's face. Apparently so far, they had done their work right.

Mav closed the bay doors shut as Ryder moved into the ship and settled in, he yelled on the comm. "Lu Rapson, take 'er out into the Black. We've got bills to pay."

Tag - Lu

He felt the ship lift up a bit and smiled as everything decided to go as planned for once. Even with Sol yelling at the engine...

He moved up the rebuilt catwalks and headed into the lounge area. As he looked over at Rick, he motioned to him. "Mister Ryder. You and I have some talking to do in the lounge."

Tag - Rick

He then saw Tarra who passed him a cup of strong coffee. "Thank you, young lady. Is that cookies I'm smellin'? Mighty nice smell to come into." Over the time he learned to know Tarra, he knew the young lady was a spitfire, but he also knew her heart was bigger than her years. "Mr. Ryder and I have some business to attend to, so we'll stay over away from your works, dear."

Tag - Tarra

As he directed Rick to a cozy part of the lounge area, he also saw Kynthia standing over to a side glaring at them. "I know you've got something to say, dear... So, now's the time to say it."

Just another day on the crazy ship we call the Monarch, but one key piece is missing still. Her innocent heart. As Maverick looked at the scene, he glanced over at the artworks by a door and looked down sadly... "Don't worry, little girl... We're gonna git you back home safe..." As he noticed a slight tear, he composed himself a bit hoping nobody noticed him.

Rick dutifully followed the Captain towards the galley. The smell of cookies intensified, and Rick caught himself thinking way to much on the past. Thinking of the past never worked in the present.

She nodded to the other one, "Mr. Ryder", and handed him a cup as well.

"Thank you, ma'am." Rick said to the woman who was obviously behind the divine smell of the ship. She seemed a might young for one who was fretting over them like a mother hen.

As he directed Rick to a cozy part of the lounge area, he also saw Kynthia standing over to a side glaring at them. "I know you've got something to say, dear... So, now's the time to say it."

"Actually Captain," Ryder interrupted. "I'm going to be guess what she has to say is many unflattering things about my heritage as well as my congenial like personality. Followed closely by an explanation and maybe even a eye full of her fist.
"That being said and all, mostly she wants to know why Monarch left her behind awhile back. 'Spect you want to know that too. So here it is. I got pinched. Local sheriff pegged me. The ironical part was it was mistaken identity, but they kept me anyways. Before they got me down, I sent a last message to Monarch. Run. I figured they'd be better off in the air and having no ties to me. Those that got left would still be safe and free. About that simple."

Having been staring out the window a bit, Lu jumped at the sound of Maverick's voice, but smiled when he had said Lu Rapson. Punching the button on the comm, she answered back, "You got it, Cap'n. I'll get us outta here." Flipping a few switches, she took them off the surface and up into the air. No storms and few clouds made for smooth sailing as they got outta atmo and she could see the stars again.

Grinning, she then punched in the course for Dyton and once they were a little ways away from the planet, she put them into auto but didn't leave the bridge. She was going to stay there incase things changed.

Glancing over her shoulder at Tarra, it was going to be nice having her on board. Taking the coffee, she took a deep wiff and smiled, "Well thank you, I miss most of the hot fresh stuff while flyin' this thing."

Sitting back in her seat as Tarra ran off again, she watched the stars flying by, waiting for any more orders.

Chris jumped at the sound of someone in the doorway. Smiling a bit, he saw Tarra standing there with coffee. "Comfortably, sure. If you can call playing solitaire all day comfortably." He took the cup and downed half of it in one gulp. He had needed that.

Watching her leave after mentioning having given a cup to Lu and cooking cookies, he let out a sigh, only to see her in the doorway once again. A grin crossed his face, "If you don't mind helpin' me get up the stairs. I'm not supposed to be moving around much at all. And as long as my leg can be propped up, I'll join you in the kitchen."

He packed the cards away, "'Sides, I'll get to smell the food before anyone else does." He slowly started to slide himself off the bed, this was going to be tricky because of all the stairs leading up to the kitchen.

Taking a step forward, ready to snarl at Rick, Kynthia could only stop and stare at him for a moment. She looked sideways at Maverick, then back to Rick. “Yeah..” she drawled. “I used to actually hit people rather than just shootin’ them.”

She began to walk forward. A slow, measured pace that spoke more than mere words about just how angry she was. Her hands fisted as she moved across the room. Her mouth working as if she was literally chewing on words. As if they were fighting their way past any reason she might have.

“Well they took you too gorram literally! Run he says, Got pinched, he says. Thought it was gorram SIMPLE! CHOU WANG BA DAN! They took off without a thought. Me and Merry, we watched them leave. Took.. took a long time before we found the Old Girl again. And Ameri.. well she nearly died of it. Ain’t really been right since, though she’d not thank me for tellin’ on her.”

She took one last step, a step that swiftly moved into a full force punch to the top of Rick’s arm. “I am tempted. Cao ni zu zong shi ba dai! I am so tempted to stop your family line right here and now.”

She moved as if to pull her gun, and felt Mavericks hand there first. Never taking her furious glare away from Rick, she nodded. Then closed her eyes and dropped her head. "Wasn't goin' to." she said quietly.

She sat down suddenly on a near chair and rested her head in her hands. The anger fleeing swiftly and leaving only despair behind. “Ameri’s gone Rick. An’ even though I am tetchy enough to make you eat space dust mixed with engine oil, you picked a gorram good time to be findin’ us an' it ain't all your fault I am so inclined. You just get the results of such a warm an' inviting stay as we just had on that planet.”

She raised her head again and gave an odd quirky smile.

“Welcome home Rick Ryder.”

Rick absently rubbed his arm where she had smacked him. What hurt the most was that Ameri was hurt by his actions. He'd move the Verse to make sure that girl was safe.

“Welcome home Rick Ryder.”

"Yeah, welcome home." Rick said softly between gritted teeth. "Gone? As in not here or gone to the great beyond gone?"

"Taken." Someone said, but he wasn't sure who.

Without thought, Ryder's hand rested on the butt of his blaster. He caressed it softly, every fiber in his being wanting to kill something.

"Cap'n, can I assume you'll be heading out to retrieve her? If that's the case, I want you to understand that I will take great happiness in causing pain to those that might harm that girl. If not, you best open that door there and let me out 'cause I'm going one ways or the other."

"You and I both, Mr. Ryder. We're headed to Dyton to see if a few of the 'businessmen' are going to give us information on where Jeroan Weber decided to hide her. However, considering it was Cypher, the notorious human trafficker, who pulled the job off... She could be anywhere." Maverick took a sip of the coffee and looked at the man in front of him.

"You left the girls on the planet, not so inclined to think about the consequences. However, Alliance law doesn't seem to care, either." He sat the cup down. "I found Kynthia, malnourished and looking for someone to give a go se about her. She came to Haven looking for a home and some food." He coughed a bit and stared at Rick. "I found the ol' girl, dumped possibly by the old crew. My ward found her in a sad shape... Don't know who you left in charge after you, but they weren't very inclined to find the girls, either."

At this point, Mav pulled his coat over and revealed his Peacemakers. "You want to right the karma in the 'Verse. Fine by me. However... You cross me, then take a look on the Cortex for Saul Alexander Armstrong and do a bit of studying up. You ain't gonna want to meet him." He then closed his coat up and resumed talking. "Yet, you do seem genuine on wanting Miss Ameri back. So, we're gonna to git her back. I need a gun, considerin' we don't have one at the moment. You willing to be the right fist of the crew... We're gonna give Weber and his crew hell. And I expect nothin' less out of you, if you're with us."

The trip up to the kitchen after the note was left for Lu was slow and a bit painful. The last time he had really moved around a lot was when he was put in that room. Now he was moved all the way to the kitchen with his leg propped up, smelling all sorts of good things. Even from his seat, he tried to peek at what Tarra was cooking.

As Tarra ran off to the engine room to give Sol some coffee, Chris just sat back and was glad to be out of that room. He even got to smell things and taste them while there. Perhaps he would be a kitchen lingerer for a while if he could swing it; find a way up here everyday and a way back down every night. Besides, he'd need to be able to strap in if they came across anything bad, and this was the best place.

Still trying to peek in the pots, he just hoped Tarra wouldn't yell at him for moving around, even though his leg was still on the cushion that was placed under it.

"Well Cap'n, I got a couple of those too. I ain't gonna sit here and hold a pissing match with you, and karma be damned. Karma's been pretty ruttin' sparse out here for me and a lot of other folk." Rick told the old man. "I didn't want this boat the first time, sure as gorram hell don't want it a second time. I just needed a lift. You can blame karma for that one if'n your inclined."

He slid a cigarillo from his pocket and stuck it between his lips.

"And as for Ameri and Kynthia for that matter, it took a whole mess of folks to keep me away once, and I did what was needed then. Ain't my fault nobody else had the same notion. I reckon now, not even the hand of God all mighty keep me from Ameri. Dong ma?"

He took a sip from the mug he had been holding and looked Mavrick in the eyes.

"Plus, I ain't much of a reader. Never much believed a lot of what comes out of the Cortex. Mind if I smoke?"

Kynthia stood up.

"Nah, we ain't got a problem with smokin' on the ship. So long as it ain't in front of the kid. Talkin' of which... I wonder where she is."

With a wan smile, she nodded to them both. "Glad we talked gents. Mav, I'll put Rick in the back cabins where Chuy is, if'n that's alright with you. Rick, that's one of the passenger cabins. But as you'll see when you go past the infirmary, we changed things when we got tore in half."

As to how much, well, that was something that only time would tell. In the meantime, Selene had been remarkably quiet for a while. And Ky wanted to check in the others to see how everyone was doing.

She wandered over to the galley and checked on the coffee situation. It looked as though the last of the pot was gone, so she began to make more.

“Good to see you up Chris. So, what’s your body say on the matter of that bullet?” She chatted with him while the coffee was brewing.

TAG - Chris.

She poured herself a mug, grinning at Tarragon as she did. “Galley looks good Tarra. Much more’n when I was cookin’ for the crew.”

A sudden thought occured to her. “Have you seen the lass on your trips around the ship? We seem to be short two crew and one curious teenager right now. The two crew we know of. The kid? Please let me know if you spot her.”

TAG Tarra

Lu she knew was alright, she’d heard the pilot earlier. So she headed in the opposite direction towards the back of the ship. She poked her head into the engine room and called over to Sol.

“Old Girl sounds great. What was that you was sayin’ about not hittin’ the engine a while back? Selene in here?”

TAG Sol.

Kynthia was getting more concerned as she searched the ship. “Chuy have you seen Selene?” she asked the preacher. It was still somewhat different to see him in his robes. And for some reason, the sight made her feel... complicated. She hadn’t spent much time with him since the wedding and was very aware that there was much to be said.

TAG - Chuy

Finally, she opened the infirmary to check in there. Something seemed off. Looking around, Kynthia couldn’t quite pick up what was wrong. A deep frown creased her face. All the instruments seemed to be in place. The locks on the medicine cabinets were intact. It was pristine.

And the warmth that was usually there was gone. It was a cold place without Ameri. Kynthia bit her lip and decided that there was only one place left to look.

With a heavy heart, she made her way up the back stairs to the crew cabins. Standing outside Ameri’s door, she traced the intricate picture that graced it with a finger. And stopped, hearing something inside. She climbed down the ladder into Ameri’s space. Finding in here the warmth that she had missed earlier.

And also finding a miserable young lady, curled up in the blankets on Ameri’s bunk. A sad face with swollen eyes looked up at her.

With a little sigh, Kynthia pulled Selene into her arms and let the youngling cry as if her heart was broken. She reached across to the shipcomm and toggled it on.

“Mav. Might be needin’ you in Ameri’s cabin in about... five minutes. Found Selene.”

The sobs that ripped through Selene’s body, harsh sounds that gave voice to the Ameri shaped hole in the crew, were also sent through the comm.

And Tarra was glad to be cooking for them; not much help with the dealin damage part, but with her training at the Chef Academy, she could help with some of the minor received damage within reason. She poured one last cup of coffee and headed for the Engine Room.

Sol was still in the engine room working on crawling around the perimeter trying to find the source of that smell when Tarra made her way in.

Tag-Tarra

"Surely I'd love a cup. Workin' on that gorram smell in here. You smell it? Smells like sweets maybe like some burnt conduit somewhere."

Tag-Tarra

He didn't quite know what to make of her, she seemed highly skilled in the culinary arts and probably quite adept at interpersonal communication skills.

"Well I'll be seein' you around and maybe after I get this place back together I'll get you some cookies."

Tag-Tarra

A few minutes later Kynthia popped her head into the engine room about this time and commented to Sol, “Old Girl sounds great. What was that you was sayin’ about not hittin’ the engine a while back? Selene in here?”

"Ha! Just wanted to make sure this one stays in the sky for a while." Sol arched his eyebrow at the second question, "No Love, I ain't see that little girl. You haven't lost her have you? Maybe Chuy knows."

Tag-Kyn

Several minutes later Sol had finished putting back together his engine room and he started making his way to the cookies when the comm opened up.

“Mav. Might be needin’ you in Ameri’s cabin in about... five minutes. Found Selene.”

The sobs that ripped through Selene’s body, harsh sounds that gave voice to the Ameri shaped hole in the crew, were also sent through the comm.

"Gorrammit..." Sol said, "I miss Ameri."

Selene finally began to calm down enough for Kynthia to be able to move.

"We're goin' to get her back. I told her long time ago I weren't about to let her come to harm. So we'll be heading someplace to get her back. Dong ma?"

Once again she tapped the comm. "Maverick? Your daughter? Feel like comin' along to help her out?"

Shaking her head, Kynthia wondered what was taking the man so long to come and soothe his child.

Looking over at Kynthia, Chris gave half a smile. "Not sure. Still feelin' pain when I move around a lot. Only way it doesn't hurt is if I keep it elevated and laying flat." He smelt the coffee and sat back, giving up on trying to strain himself to look in the pots that were cooking. He was the taste tester anyways.

Sitting back sipping the coffee he had as she left, it was nice to see the ship not completely beat up. Trying to glance up towards the bridge, he caught sight of some blond hair which caused him to smile. Up there piloting the ship was the woman he had always wanted to and finally had married, even if the wedding hadn't gone as planned.

It was then that he heard Kynthia on the comm and frowned. If anyone was going to feel this the strongest it would be Selene. With all the time he had dealt with her other self in that prison, he now felt bad that she could feel everything. He wished he could get up and help, but hoped that Kynthia and Maverick would be able to keep her somewhat calmed down. Maybe he would offer to watch her and keep her company since he was laid up.

------------------------------

Sipping her coffee, Lu was glad they were back in the black. She had missed it. Being planetside was great and all, but the stars always called to her. The comm then chirped on and she let out a soft sigh as she listened to the cries of Selene. That poor girl seemed so distraught, though they all were, about Ameri being kidnapped.

Setting the coffee down, she turned and glanced out towards where Ameri's room was, catching sight of the paintings. A few tears came to her eyes too, but she quickly brushed them away. Maybe there was someone on this ship who could stay strong. She probably wasn't that person, but she had to try. She had just gotten married, though her husband was stuck not moving around because someone had the nerve to shot him during the wedding.

She shook the thoughts of wanting to strangle that person bare handed out of her head and turned back to look out at the stars as they flew. Just maybe she could focus on them like she always did and get the sounds of Selene crying and bullets being fired out of her head.

Mav came in slowly and for the one time in his life, the old man didn't know what to do. Silently, he put a hand on Kynthia and said nothing to her. He picked up Selene, still clutched to her pillow and held her gently.

As a father, he didn't know what to say to soothe the young lady. He knew he hadn't been a father in a good long time. However, he knew words weren't going to work at the moment. Nothing he could say would work.

He climbed up the ladder slowly and gingerly until he was out on the hall. As the others looked at him, he nodded to the folks. He looked over to Rick, as to tell him everything would be alright. As he looked down to Kynthia, he gave a weak smile. A sign that he didn't know what to do anymore...

The young woman kept sobbing into his chest. All he knew to do was to rock her, like when she was still little. He did this all the way back to his cabin. The old man then placed her into her nice comfy hideaway bed, still with Ameri's pillow.

As she started to lay down, she wanted to talk, but her father put a finger on her lip and shushed her. As she calmed down a bit, he kissed her on the cheek and sat down in his cabin.

Meanwhile...

The large man looked down at the young prize in his possession. "The girl... is asleep." He motioned to the guard in the ship. "When she wakes up, tell me. Her father wants a word with her."

The guard looked over and nodded to him.

A stern looking man came over the wave screen. "My daughter... is she awake, Cypher?"

"No sir. Since you last talked to her, no change."

He cleared his voice. "As well it should be. Saul Armstrong is headed to Dyton according to our sources. Probably going after Badger and Ferret, of course. He doesn't know them personally, but I have a good feeling he doesn't care."

"Should be an amusing experience, Mr. Weber..."

"Isn't it always with the Rodent Brothers?" He pointed out an itinerary to the large man. "Bellopheron is where you are headed, Cypher. Use your safehouse. I paid for it for an emergency. The Twin Gunner is probably a good one."

"Armstrong alone isn't a threat."

Weber nodded, "You caught me. It's also said by the source that Riley Richards is aboard, also."

"Riley Richards..."

"The man known as Rick Ryder. The former Captain. If they are on the same page..."

Cypher pointed to his navigator. "To Bellopheron, now!"
