Recruiting for the USS Horizon - a Pre-TOS Sim

Postby Amanda Rose » Mon May 12, 2014 7:39 pm

A new United Federation of Planets. has entered into creation in the aftermath of the Earth-Romulan War.. And with it's establishment comes a new chapter of galactic history. An era of pioneers and explorers in an untamed galaxy, bearing wonders to excite the imagination, and terrors that can freeze the soul. With this mandate, vessels that were once warships and people that were once soldiers have thrown down their weapons and have turned their attentions to exploration. Of these vessels, the lone vessel U.S.S Horizon NCC-176, recently departed from Sigma Iotia II, continue their grand exploration of the galaxy.

----------------------------------------------

U.S.S Horizon is an interactive simulation (Sim) set in the year 2168, close to a hundred years before The Original Series pilot "The Cage." This simulation (a reboot from the yahoo USS Horizon started in February, 2006) picks up where the episode leaves off. The Horizon has just left Sigma Iotia II. The crew is continuing its mission of planetary exploration. From this point, Star Trek history gives us a black hole. It's our goal to roleplay what may have happened between the Horizon's departure from "A Piece of the Action." and the distress call. Since Kirk mentioned that "all hands were lost," we are obviously not going to be staying in Federation space. :)

I should further note that Enterprise DOES NOT EXIST (or anything mentioned in Enterprise) for purposes of this sim. I can't stand what they did to canon (it is contradictory to the real series) or Andorians. If you anticipate simming and Andorian, YOU MUST TALK TO ME FIRST. You will have to be familiar with MY version which can be seen in Zuub in the SLA. :) Furthermore, as there is a void in the technology advances at this time, we will have to extrapolate based on modern technology and TOS technology. If you have questions on this, please ask.

Oh, and by the way, the returning crew thus far is:

Me - Captain Gary Alexander
Marissa - XO Commander Mary Wells

Sjet - Arkady Sjet (I think.)
Azaria - Jai Lee and Jack Lysenko

New Players Committed:

KendleRj

We're looking for another writer, two or three. Since Horizon will not be returning home and new crew members really can't arrive on this ship, we need serious, committed writers (or writers that need to be seriously committed :) ). PM me if interested!

Its like Gilligan's Island in space, only with a high risk of permanent irreversible character death is the GM gives me the same license he did last time :) I mean thats a recommendation for this game right there, the amount of trust a writer can be granted who has a track record for wanton destruction and psychotic characters :D

No, in all seriousness this was a good game to be on back in the day: a chance to do Enterprise the right way, and get in on the sense of really going into the unknown. Its a ton of fun last time, and I only wish I'd stuck with it longer before the bill paying needed to be looked into. I am pyshced about this game returning.

That's what happened to this game. A lot of folks had real life happen at the same time and it can't just go with three players/writers. There is a lot of creative license because, as you said, it is unexplored waters/territory and it is interesting to watch the psychological reactions of those who know that they will never make it home and adjusting to their new life. It is Enterprise and Voyager done the right way. :)

RL unfortunately can be a huge factor as we all know in picking and choosing which sim to join or how many. Since there are a slew of Star Trek sims out there, salesmanship and presentation outside the SLA is very important. Some people in here (myself included) must pick carefully which sims to join or if one is in their opinion viable. To avoid becoming overloaded by taking on too much.

How is that going so far? Any bites or new possibilities outside for new blood that's shown interest?

Marissa :)

KendleRJ and perhaps our new Publication chair are willing to enter the insanity, which would bring us to 6. Tavey has some interest as well, which would bring us to 7 if we can get everyone fully together.

So seven then. Do you plan to start soon or recruit some more while adding people in?

I think we're getting close to the reboot. Pub Chair has indicated interest. Still want to recruit a bit more.

YAY! As soon as my new domain is hooked up, I will be starting the game there. Look for Horizon (and likely Legacy) at rpgwriting.com. I will let everyone know when the domain is set up.

People can start registering at rpgwriting.com/forum even though there is nothing to see yet. :) I do have a generic USS Horizon phpBB board up but I have lots of permissions to set yet. Please submit character concepts ASAP so we can hit the ground running. You can PM them to me. Use Legacy's character sheet format for submission. For those returning to the ship, look at your old profile and make whatever changes that you think are necessary and email me or PM me. :)
