Jarrold slowly stood up and looked around the room. He was still sad about Melissa but now his mind had a little bit of distraction. He could hardly believe what happened and still wasn't sure that it was real. He had really just been promoted to Lieutenant Commander. More than that he had been placed in command of the engineering department. This was a huge responsibility that he wasn't sure that he was ready for. In science all he had to do was run experiments, some of them very important, but rarely anything that effected the entire crew. Now on the other hand he would play a big part, no... one of the most important parts in the operation of the entire ship. Still despite the fact that he had his doubts if Captain Ja'arda felt that he could do it he would be do his best. He was a trained engineer on top of being a counselor and science officer. He had read the specs on the Prometheus Class starship and could tell the ships speed by just feeling the vibration of the deck plating.

His only problem was with how Vaskel would take it. He had been Chief Engineer on the Zealous for a while from what Jarrold understood and this probably wasn't going to be easy for him to swallow. Despite what they said Vulcans did have feelings. Still he hoped that Vaskel would remain on his team. He no doubtly knew every nuance of the ship in ways that Jarrold would only be able to dream of. Vaskel was going to be an important part of his team and he hoped that he would be willing to work with him.

Slowly Jarrold scanned the room and saw the Murdock had seperated himself from everyone else. He looked slightly lonely and was looking in Jarrold direction like he wanted to say something. In his own funk Jarrold had forgotten that there were other people around that might need an ear to talk to. He had always been good at making friends and talking to people. That had been one of his great talents as a counselor and it seemed to be one that he was losing. His training as a counselor was to keep a professional distance but that had never worked for him. His personality didn't allow for it and his ability to make friends is what made him so effective at his job and as a Starfleet Officer overall.

Taking a few steps he started over towards Murdock where he took a seat next to him. "I just got promoted." he said. "I made Lieutenant Commander and am the Zealous's new Chief Engineer."

Joy listened half heartedly to the promotions. She heard that Luke had been made chief of security as well as tactical and was pleased for him. He had been through a lot in the past few months and had come through it all and was a fine officer. She was not sure how Daniel would feel about it but she had more important things on her mind.

As the ceremony was concluded people started milling around and celebrating their own and their colleagues success.

The Captain was in a hushed discussion of Jarrold. Joy wondered what that was all about too. Maybe Jarrold's outing as a telepath maybe. Joy therefore looked around for Alex and saw him leaving with Vaskel. This was not going well. Then Joy saw Daniel and Luke chatting amiably and decided to begin there. Daniel was smiling so obviously he was happy with the new arrangements.

Walking over to them she said.

"Congratulating Luke Chief of Security and Tactical you are going to have your hands full"

"I'm sure you are celebrating but I do have a security issue I need to discuss with you. It's a long story i'm afraid and a bit embarassing. But first things first can I get either of you a drink to celebrate Luke's promotion"

For just an instant, he considered reaching out his hand to shake, when his training took over, he snapped to attention, and said, "Ensign That Mann reporting for duty, sir!"

How long had it been since Luke had considered himself young? As this new recruit Ensign That Mann was. Luke remembered his first days on the Zealous, he wasn't that different from the new Tactical Ensign. He was full of a sense of duty. Knew what was good and bad. He had ambitions. Nothing could ever happen to him. Because he was with Starfleet! He could see his entire Starfleet career laid out before him.

But a Starfleet career, Luke had learned, didn't come easy. Luke had fought high pitched battles. Been kidnapped and tortured, decieved and reprimanded. That sense of invinsibility had long since perished. Instead he began to understand that it didn't take that much to end his life at all. Space is vast. And what was he? Luke hoped the Ensign wouldn't have to go through the pains he had gone through.

"At ease, Ensign", Luke said with a reassuring voice, "we're not on duty. This is a party, you should try to enjoy yourself".

As Lieutenant Hunt stepped away from the CO and the XO, Luke waved him over. "I don't know if congratulations are in order since technically they've taken away your leadership of the Security Department, although I don't think there's a better man for an Assistent Chief of Security/Tactical. Together we'll keep the Zealous safe. And you get to fire the really big guns now", Luke said with a wink.

"Commander, we have both served on this ship a long time, although it pains me to lose full command of Security, I am happy to share the duty with you." Daniel smiled. "It will be an honor to serve under you Commander Osswell" Daniel stuck out his hand, waiting for Osswell to take it "Heck, maybe you'll learn a thing or two... from me!" Daniel said, with a wink and a smile. " Lets think about what we're gonna do later. right now, its time to celebrate!"

"Congratulations, sir."
, Ensign Mann said.

"We'll make a heck of a team Lieutenant, Ensign", was Luke's answer. Just then Commander Ducane announced that the party was over and they should be arriving at the Starbase within the hour. Luke checked the duty-roster.

"Looks like the two of you have Bridge Duty in an hour", Luke said, "That's a great chance to familiarize yourselves with the tactical functions".

Just then Commander Robinson walked up to them. "Congratulating Luke Chief of Security and Tactical, you are going to have your hands full".

"Thank you Joy", Luke said. It had been a long time since he'd seen her. "I hear you've helped preparing the devices for the mental away team. You've helped save our captain and I can't thank you enough for it."

I'm sure you are celebrating but I do have a security issue I need to discuss with you. It's a long story i'm afraid and a bit embarassing. But first things first can I get either of you a drink to celebrate Luke's promotion".

"A security issue? Are you sure it can wait? Can't have have a security breach on the Zealous on my first day now, can I?", Luke joked.

"A security issue? Are you sure it can wait? Can't have have a security breach on the Zealous on my first day now, can I?", Luke joked.

Joy tried to smile at Luke's humour but she did not feel in a joking mood.

"Well we have an extra guest on board" Joy said "When we were on the True Federation base rescuing the Captain I bumped into someone I was not expecting to see. When it became apparent that the base was going to be destroyed we brought her back to the Avenger and when we met back up with the Zealous I had no choice but to bring her back here."

Joy paused for a moment Luke's joking expression had now changed to a more serious one.

"You see Luke my sister had been missing from Earth for nearly a year. No one had been able to trace her until I bumped into her on that base. I have not even told the Captain yet"

Joy glanced towards the Captain. Jarrold was just standing up he had obviously finished his conversation with her.

"It seems she was part of the team responsible for those bugs that tried to eat through our hull"

Tatiana sat there in the corner of the lounge for about 20 minutes.
Her heart pounding and her red eyes still wide as she glanced around over the massive crowd that was gathered around all in this one single space in the star ship.
Biting nervously on her nails as she continued to sweep the area around her with her bloodred eyes, for mere seconds she thought she had been seen.
Cringing the young Venusian had backed away more into the corner she was hiding in.
Not exactly ready to be confronted with anyone just yet, let alone having to talk to an unknown person.
It frightened her that in the end she would have to make an appearance and possibly even engage in conversation with members of the crew.
Rubbing her temples gently Tatiana curled up on the floor of the lounge.
"Breathe" she said softly to herself, forcing herself to take deep breaths in and slowly exhale as she looked up and whimpered softly at the sight of all the people around.
Stopping slowly with the repeatative motion of rubbing her temples as she blinked.
Knowing in the back of her head she couldn't stay in the dark forever and there was no way that she could find a way to sneak out unnoticed.
Crawling back until she felt the cold war pressing against her bare back she took a deep breath, sliding herself up slowly, standing in the darkness that kept her unseen for now.
Closing her eyes for a few seconds as she collected all the courage she would need to pull this off without either making a complete fool out of herself or go hysteric and run out of the lounge making an even bigger fool out of herself.
Slowly taking one step forward Tatiana repeated to herself that she'd be okay, and nothing could possibly go wrong as long as she kept her head clear and stayed focussed on trying to leave the lounge with at least a little bit of dignity.
Emerging from the darkness slowly the blonde looked down at her feet, watching every careful step she took, as slow as they were.
Not wanting people to be scared of her red eyes she simply kept her eyes downcast, breathing in slowly and calmly as she dared to glance around, instantly regretting it as she saw so many people everywhere around her.
Raising a slender hand she ran it through her blonde locks nervously, a hint of a smile appearing on her face as she looked around nervously, her smile turning into a rather nervous one as she licked her red lips.
Turning she stepped back, hoping she wasn't noticed by too many people as she began to walk to the exit of the lounge, her heart pounding as she begged to her gods not to let her do anything stupid, or worse, have someone try to talk to her.

Spade finally put down the PADD he was reading with the new duty rosters on it. He had ordered a meal from the replicator (consisting of some Bolian delicacy he thought he might try - it was surprisingly good) and was nearly finnished with it. He glanced around the Lounge, noticing several people were still talking to each other and eating. He saw Ti'ana, his department head, across the room. She looked like she was having a good time with Mr. S'jet. Spade figured she wouldn't want to be bothered right now with work. So he decided he would just go to the Bridge himself and make sure things were going along fine from the ops station up there.

As he stood up, he noticed Ensign Jaren Greystone sitting nearby. Jaren was new to the Operations department. He considered going over to him and talk to him some. Get to know him better. Spade still considered himself a young officer in Starfleet and still didn't feel comfortable just casually talking to others he barely knew. But if he was ever going to get anywhere in Starfleet, he knew he would have to get over this feeling of nervousness eventually.

"Hello Ensign," he said to Jaren as he came up to him, "Are you adjusting well here? If you'd like, we could go up to the Bridge where you can get familiarized with Operations systems on this ship. Or maybe we could go pay Commander Sullivan a visit. I'm sure she wouldn't mind meeting a new addition to the Operations department."

Murdock took a seat and tried to put on a smile when he heard Jarrold's good news. Not that many officers were promoted this time around, and not many got their shot at heading up or helping to head up a department. Then again, he remembered back to his first days on board the ship, and how there were some who didn't even want the Texan lifting a finger to help out.

"Congrats," the helm officer said. "I'm sure the captain made a great choice."

The Texan looked down for a moment, trying to get his bearings and figure out how he was going to say what he wanted to, but without offending Jarrold. he also had to do the same thing once he caught up with Luke as well.

When he looked back up, he noted, "I wanted to let you know that I'm sorry 'bout Melissa leaving. She was quite a gal, and there were rumors that you and here were getting pretty serious."

He watched as Jarrold looked down for a moment, almost as if what Murdock had said hit very close to home. 'Better think of something, slick, or you're going to end up like Spade and regret bringing it up," he thought to himself.

He drew in a breath, and then continued, "It wasn't that long ago that I was goin' through a rough patch on the ship myself. Just 'bout everyone that I got close to either died or ended up leavin' the ship. One or two, I probably wouldn't have thought nothin' about it. But, it was way more than that, and it had me start thinkin' that I was a jinx."

He shifted his position in his chair and added, "It got so bad to where I was afraid of gettin' close to anyone, since I was 'fraid that I'd end up losing them too. I guess what I wanted to say is that I kinda know what you're going through, and you don't have to go through it alone. I wanna be there for you, as a friend, if you'll let me."

There, he said it. All that was left for him to do was see how Jarrold would react.

When Ensign Mann told him he'd bet his life on it, Luke had to restrain himself from telling the young Ensign not to bet lightly with his life, but he let it go. That Mann was just eager and enthousiastic, and there was no need for a speech on how life could let you down.
Thankfully, Ensign Mann started talking to Lt. Hunt so Luke didn't have to reply, he simply smiled encouragingly.
He went into dialogue with Joy and he was surprised when she told him she'd bumped into her sister on the TTF complex, and that she was now on the Zealous in a holding cell.

"Well, first things first. You must tell the captain. Like it or not Joy, you're sister is a member of a terrorist organisation. I wouldn't go as far as to call her a terrorist herself, she might be decieved or misguided. However if she really has helped develop those hull eating bugs, I don't think I can do much for her. Who knows what other projects she might be involved in. No doubt Starfleet Intelligence want to interrogate her." Luke paused. This was not the place to discuss such matters.
"Perhaps we could talk somewhere more private. Shall we go to my office?"

[snip] Jaren smiled, nodded. "Yes sir, that would be wonderful. Both options sound great! Possibly we could do both? As much as I would like to familiarize myself with the ships Operations systems, I would like to meet the other members of the team!" [end/snip]

"All right then!" Spade said to Jaren. He admired the ensign's enthusiasm. "Let's go meet Ti'ana Sullivan. She's yours and my boss in the Operations department."

After saying his goodbyes to everyone, Jaren and Spade crossed the room to where Commander Sullivan sat. "Commander," he said putting on his best smile, "congradulations on your new position. I'd like you to meet the newest addition to our Operations department: Ensign Jaren Greystone." He gestured to Jaren and waited for Ti'ana's reply.

Jarrold could see that Murdock was trying to reach out and while he did it in an ackward way he still appreciated the effort. "It never hurts to have friends." he said. "I appreciate that. We should hang out sometime. That offer for a trip to the holodeck to ride on the SR-71 program is still on anytime you want to go." he said.

Ducane had called him wanting to talk about something, probably his recent promotion and the state of things in engineering. Jarrold reached up and tapped his comm-badge. =/\= Scott to Ducane. =/\=

=/\= This is Ducane =/\=

=/\= I'm on my way to your office sir. I should be there in a few minutes. =/\=

With that he tapped his comm-badge off and turned back to Murdock. "Why don't you get back to the others. I'll go see what the XO wants and then come back and join everyone for a drink." he said.

Jarrold stood up and headed toward the door and then to Ducanes office where he rang the chime and waited for the ships first officer to answer.

Jake remained away from the main party as Ti’ana walked towards the captain and Alex. He saw them talk, heard the promotions: second officer, what a shot in the arm of her career that must be. Second officer on a ship made for war, masquerading as a ship of peaceful exploration. He turned to face the window, rubbing two fingers on either side of the ridge of his nose.
War.
Nearly 300 years of exploration and the Federation were no further along the line of enlightenment as the cavemen of there past. Each race of the galaxy was still looking for the bigger stick or stone to beat their enemies into a bloody paste. And why didn’t he plead with Ti’ana to leave her Federation, to leave the hatred behind…
And what? Wander the desert of space for how long? Fifty years, sixty if he was lucky? Maybe a bit longer, but sooner or later Ti’ana would begin to age. Her body, subtle and lovely as it was, would begin to break down as only something of biology could. Marrying her…would that bring him only pain in the future? No.
No he was certain he could…he could what? Force her into taking treatments to extend her life, perhaps even nano-logical augmentation? To become like him and then slowly lose yourself to something else. He looked down at his own hand, allowing the trillions of nano machines that made up the back of that hand to ripple like the waves of an incoming tide.
I won’t let her become the monster I am, he promised her silently; I’ll save you form nature’s cruelty.
But how…
He turned, facing back in towards the party, the patch work robe he had made for himself fluttering softly around him. To some he seemed the same as he always had, then again the changes of his augmentation had altered him slowly so they could see no change. In comparison to the Jake of now, and the Jake of three years past, this one was the younger brother.
And no one knew the brother well.
He walked through the small eddies of conversations, letting the euphoric sense of commonality wash over him. It was a kinship he longed for, but knew he would never get from any of them bar one. To him they were the strangers, the things to be studied, examined…cut open and pulled apart to see how they ticked and then put back together. A simple task all in all.
He walked up behind Ti’ana, slipping an arm around her waist and smiled happily at Zania and Alex.
“I assume I’m not interrupting anything?”

She nodded pleasantly, and said in her distinctive Irish brogue. "Hello Ensign, welcome to the Zealous. Ops can sure use some fresh blood." she said with a green eyed grin. "I am sure that you will serve well."

Tag: Greystone

"We were just going up to the Bridge now to let him get used to Ops station up there before his first real mission." Spade said to Ti'ana. After lettting him say a few words to Ti'ana, Spade led Jaren toward the exit and up to the Bridge. Along the way he explained, "We'll be approaching Starbase 345 in about an hour. Once there, we'll drop off the Senator and his people, then proceed with our next mission." They reached a turbolift. "Bridge," he said as the doors closed in front of them. "An hour should be enough time to get to know the Ops station fairly well. What do you think so far?" He was trying to sound as friendly as possible. He knew what it was like to be new to a big ship like this one. In fact, he still considered himself new to the ship even though he had been on nearly a year.

Tag: Greystone

After a moment, they arrived on the Bridge. The Captain was already there. She looked a bit shaky whenever she stood up. He smiled and said, "Its good to have you back Captain," he pointed toward Jaren, "This is Ensign Greystone, a new recruit to our Operations department."

Tags: Captain Ja'arda, and Jaren

He motioned for Jaren to sit down at the Ops station near the front of the Bridge. "From this station here you can monitor all ship's sytems and see how well everything is functioning. You'll most often be operating the ship's sensors and rerouting power from certain secondary sytems to more primary systems if we need it." Spade caught himself and smiled, "But you probably already knew all this from your training at the academy."

He paused, and said, "You're going to be leading an entire department now, so if you have any questions about your duties or responsibilities, please ask!"
<snip>

"Thank you sir." Jarrold said to the Commander. "I will. I'm just anxious to get to work."

Jarrold was excited. He was the Chief Engineer on a Starship. He had never dreamed of something like this happening and he would do his best to live up to the responsibility.

"I think I'll go check out Engineering." he said "Start getting everything in order and taking inventory of what needs to be done. I'll keep Zealous running at top shape."

With that he nodded and turned towards the door.

When he had first come aboard Ducane was the ships Chief Medical Officer. Thinks were certainly changing on the Zealous. Ducane was now the ships XO while Ti'ana Sullivan had just been given the job of second officer. Melissa Richards, one of the stables of the Zealous crew and the love of Jarrold life was now gone while newcomer Yunisca was the ships counselor. Jarrold himself had just been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and transferred to engineering as Chief Engineer.

Then there were all the new crewmen that had come aboard recently. Things were definately different but Jarrold looked forward to seeing where their lives on the Zealous would take them next.

Murdock looked around the lounge and it seemed like Luke had already left. Darn it! And he really wanted to talk to him as well. At least things seemed to go well with Jarrold, and the guy had even offered that they get together sometime for a holodeck session. That was an offer he planned on taking him up on once everyone got settled down again.

He looked back to the table where he had sat not that long ago, and saw that Ensign Freeman was still there. He made his way back over there and sat down across from him.

"What do you think of the Zealous so far?" he wondered.

Joy knew he was right but feared, from what she had said already, that Melissa was in this up to her neck. Also given that she had been missing from Earth for almost a year there was no telling what she had been up to. Joy knew one thing for sure Melissa was not goign to talk to her about it.

"Perhaps we could talk somewhere more private. Shall we go to my office?" Luke suggested.

Joy looked around well the Captain had left anyway.

"I think that would be wise" Joy said.

They went to Luke's office and sat down.

"I should probably mention that when we got back to the Avenger Melissa was unconscious having been stunned by one of their security. She woke up while we were attending to the Captain. She ran off injuring at least one of their crew that I know of before being apprehended"

Joy was exhausted. They had spent so long dealing with rescuing the Captain and then with this as well. It was just too much.

"I'm sorry to get you involved in this before I have had the chance to speak to the Captain" Joy said. "I have not even told my parents yet that she has been found. As far as they are concerned she has been missing for nearly a year without a word."

Joy paused and then continued.

"She won't talk to me that is for sure. Lets just say we never really got on as children or as adults. Everyone though Melissa was the arty / creative one. She never did anything with her life but I suppose we were wrong."

Joy sighed this was just so difficult.

"Would you be prepared to talk to her. Try and find out how deeply she was involved with the true federation."

IONI
<< Officers Lounge, Deck 9 USS Zealous >>

Daniel saw Commander Robinson approach Commander Osswell and engage him in discussion, as he was about to take his leave, Ensign Mann spoke.

"Lieutenant, I would like to discuss some ideas I have about potential improvements to our department." He was just about to expound some of his ideas, when he remembered BOTH his superior officers had just said, essentially, "chill."

"At your convenience, perhaps after I've had some time to get settled into my new schedule," he said. "Good save," he thought to himself.

Ensign Mann immediately kicked himself.. He was not following his plan, which was to spend a few months lying low and observing before seriously trying to do his job. Well, if it saves our lives in a firefight, better to get the ideas out where they can be used, even if it costs him
his career.

Ensign nervously bit his lower lip and awaited a response.

“Well Ensign, fresh Ideas are welcome in my book, change is a constant in life, but this is way above my head, what I can suggest is that we brainstorm this, draft a detailed report and submit it to Commander Osswell. We cannot say for sure if he will reject the idea or if he will adapt this in our Department, all we can do is propose, the decision is up to him, since he’s the department head, what I can do is to help you with in drafting the necessary report, making sure all procedures are met and non of the rules are being disregarded.”

Daniel awaited Ensign Mann’s response and figured he might be pondering what to say next. “Well, here’s what I can say.” Daniel added “tell me your idea over lunch tomorrow and let’s take it from there, that way you have plenty of time to think about it.”

(OOC - There's a bit of confusion, since my character was ordered to light duty and could not return to the Bridge until after dinner. She's literally in a couple of places at one time, so I'm going to try and work with the posts so that isn't the case.)

Lieutenant JG Hunter Blake had not only conducted a medical examination, but he had outright ordered Captain Ja'arda not to return to the Bridge until she had a chance to eat dinner. He gave that order under the threat of pretty much relieving her of duty, although that was something that only the Chief Medical Officer had the power and privelage of doing.

Well, Alex had offered for the two of them to have dinner together, and she definitely planned on taking him up on the offer. It would be nice for the two of them to sit down, together, and discuss several things.

The dark-haired Betazoid moved over to a wall panel and pressed a button on it. "Computer, location of Commander Ducane."

"Commander Ducane is in the Executive Officer's Office," came the monotone reply from the female computer voice.

Well, the best place to get to the XO's office was through the Bridge. All she had to do was to get there, and hopefully without stumbling or falling.

As Azanialix made her way through the corridors, in many ways she hated this. She didn't ask to have had all of this happen to her. She had only did what she thought she had to in order to save the ship, at the time that everything did transpire. Her first duty was to the ship, and to the valiant crew that had been left on board.

But, she never asked to die, nor had she asked to have been infected with nanites. And now she had to live with the small mechanical organisms within her blood stream, just as she now had to face the road to recovery.

It took a bit, but she eventually made her way up to the Bridge. She was about to head over to the office that Alex would have been in when Jake Spade arrived on the Bridge and introduced Ensign Greystone, who was a new member to the Operations Department.

"Welcome on board the Zealous, Ensign," she greeted him warmly, with a gentle smile.

She looked to the Helm officer and asked, "Ensign, what is our current location?"

"We're arriving at the station now. We've just received clearance, and should be docked at the station within 5 minutes," he responded.

"Very good, Ensign. Inform Senator Canetti the moment the docking proceedures are complete, so he can proceed to the station," she requested.

Well, there went that idea. She had thought about catching Alex in his office to see if he was ready for dinner yet, but if they were docking at the station, the Senator would probably want to meet up with her one final time before he departed for the station.

"Lieutenant Spade, you have the Bridge," she told him before returning to the Turbolift.

As soon as the doors closed, she tapped her Combadge. "Captain Ja'arda to Commander Ducane."

"Ducane here," came the reply.

"I was wondering if I could take you up on that dinner offer, but if we could dine in the Lounge. The Senator is about to leave the station, and I have no doubt that he'll want to meet with me one final time before he leaves. It's pretty close to the docking port, which will make it convenient," she suggested.

"I'll meet you there, Captain," he responded.

The doors to the Turbolift parted, allowing Captain Ja'arda to step back out into the corridors. She took a deep breath, treasuring the sight, and then reached out with a hand to steady herself against the walls of the corridor.

Thankfully, the Lounge wasn't too far away. Zania almost looked as if she was about to faint when she stumbled through the doors and managed to find a seat at the nearest table. Except for Jake Sjet and a few others, the Lounge was now pretty spartan, with hardly any crew hanging around.

Alex arrived a moment later and grabbed a seat. No sooner had he sat down, Jake walked up and asked if he was interrupting anything.

Azanialix Ja'arda smiled at him. "Of course not! Please, have a seat and feel free to join us!" she welcomed him.

She'd never be able to forget that Jake had, literally, played a huge part in helping to save her life. Sure, they had been through a rough patch, but she would always consider him as a friend.

"Lieutenant Spade, you have the Bridge,"
"Aye, Captain." Spade said and watched as she stepped back into the turbolift. She still looked very shaky when she walked. He hoped she would be all right. He looked down at Ensign Greystone who was still sitting at Ops. He seemed to be greatly admiring console before him. Spade smiled.
They were now docking at Starbase 345 where they would drop off the Senator. The docking procedures would be Ensign Greystone's first real duty aboard the Zealous. Fortunately, an Ops officer's job during docking procedures was really simple. The real work involved would be done by the helm officer. Spade just stood in the center of the Bridge prefering to stand rather than sit in the command chair due to the fact that he had been sitting for a long while down in the Lounge.
In a few minutes Spade could feel the lightly thudding with the docking port of the Starbase. The helm officer anounced they were docked. "Good." Spade said, "Inform the Senator. Well Ensign, how do you feel after completing your first job?" He smiled knowing full well how easy Jaren's job had been.

Ken felt at ease here; at least, noone was attacking him, no teasing or stuff, as it had been in School and partially at Starfleet Academy. He didn't have anything to say, but he wasn't a man who had to talk to feel good anyway. He was here to work and maybe make friends - not to make friends and maybe work a bit.

"What do you think of the Zealous so far?" he [Murdock] wondered.

Kendall didn't have to muse too long when he heard Murdock's question and replied: "I quite like the ship. Marvellous sigth, of course... and the people I met so far are, at least, not totally bad. How they really are, I don't know yet...I bet that's going to change, though... "

The talk between Lt. Commander Robinson and Lt. Commander Luke Osswell continued when they arrived in his office. Luke listened carefully to Joy's story. It must be terrible for her to find out her sister's a member of a terrorist organisation. That someone of your own blood was capable in aiding in mass murder.

She should have gone straight to the Captain. Sure, Melissa was now in a holding cell but should she brake out, he, and especially the captain should know who they had running loose on the ship.
But he understood, she was her sister and Joy was trying to protect her. Luke was reminded of his own sister. The last time he saw her, right before the Dominion attack on Earth when Noraly gave her life to safe his. If it wasn't for his big sister, he'd be dead now...

So he let her speak, acting as both a sounding board and confidant.

"Would you be prepared to talk to her. Try and find out how deeply she was
involved with the true federation.", she asked after a time

"Sure, Joy, I will do that for you", he answered.

"Also I know it's a lot but can you find out what Starfleet Intelligence will
want us to do with her. It would help to know before I contact my parents.", she said.

"I will do what I can, on one condition. That you will tell the Captain about this. She's a wise woman, she'll understand", Luke said gently.

After Robinson had left, his door chimed again.

"Come in", Luke said.

He was surprised to find the transparent Q standing in the doorway...

"I will do what I can, on one condition. That you will tell the Captain about this. She's a wise woman, she'll understand", Luke said gently.

"I know you are right" Joy said. "It's just hard to believe that Melissa would get involved with those people. I just don't understand it"

Joy sighed.

"Thanks for the chat" she said.

"No problem" He replied.

Joy left Luke's office after checking with the computer she located the Captain in the Lounge. Funny Joy thought as the Captain had left the lounge before she had Luke had.

Joy headed back there.

As she entered she saw that the lounge was a lot quiter now with only a handful of people still there. Looking around she saw a table where the Captain, Alex Ducane and Jake Sjet were finishing a meal.

Joy paused for a moment plucking up the courage to do what she knew needed to be done.

Taking a deep breath she walked over to them.

"Sorry to interupt" Joy said. "There is something I need to tell you" Joy said addressing the Captain. "You all may as well hear what I have to say at the same time" Joy said to Jake and Alex.

They invited her to sit down.

"When we were on the True Federation base rescuing you" Joy said focusing on the Captain as she spoke "I encountered someone I did not expect to see. My sister had been missing from earth for almost a year. Security services on Earth could find no trace of her and my parents were conviced that something had happened to her. Well she was on that base. It turns out she was responsible for those hull eating bugs we encountered. She helped us find you, although under duress and when she was going to raise the alarm she was stunned by one of the Avenger's security. Well when it was clear the base was going to be destroyed we brought her back to the Avenger and when we met back up with the Zealous after rescuing the senator I brought her here"

Joy paused letting this settle in wondering what her colleagues would think. Joy was so ashamed of her sister but she just could not have left her behind.

There was of course the other issue her trying to escape the Avenger and attacking at least one of their crew but that revelation could wait.

Tag Captain, Alex, Jake

OOC I suggest that you feel free to have this revelation take place after anything you had planned for during your dinner. That is why I said I came in as you were finishing your meal. I will not be online again until at least Tuesday so I thought I would get this post in now.

Jarrold stood in front of the mirror looking at his new uniform and the black pip that now adorned his collar and marked his as a Lieutenant Commander. He was both excited and nervous the prospect of serving as the Chief Engineer of the Zealous. He had never thought that he would serve on any starship in this capacity but that was the wonderful thing about Starfleet. You never knew what was going to happen.

He liked the gold colors of the engineering department. They definately fit, well he personally thought that he looked good in any color uniform. It was different than the blue that he had gotten used to since the start of his Starfleet career but it was definately a step closer to the command that he one day wanted.

Reaching down to his sides he grabbed the bottom of his uniform and tugged. He liked the way that it looked on him but these uniforms never fit quite right. It had taken him what seemed like forever to get his science uniform to fit properly and he was tempted to change into it. Still he was a Chief Engineer right now so that old uniform would just be nostalgia.

Jarrold moved away from the mirror and took a seat back at his desk. There was one more thing that he needed to do before he moved on to check out his new posting.

"Computer Start Recording."

The computer beeped in acknowledgement.

"Joy,

As you may have heard I have recieved a promotion and been transferred to the engineering department as the head of that group. It has been a pleasure working with you and I have learned a great deal from serving under you. I truly feel that it has been your influence that has allowed me to make this progression.

We should go out and celebrate sometimes. First for my promotion but more importantly for you getting me out of your hair.

Hope to see you around soon.

Your Friend,
Lieutenant Commander Jarrold Scott
Chief Engineer"

Jarrold let out a little chuckle and then stood up. "Computer stop recording and send message to Lieutenant Commander Joy Robinson." he said.

The computer beeped it's acknowledgement to the order.

With that Jarrold turned and headed out his quarters. He needed to got tour engineering. As he moved down the cooridor he realized that in all the time that he had been on the ship he had visited engineering only once. Now he wished that he had spent more time there, though it really wouldn't have done any good. He was in the science department and really had no reason to be in engineering.

Jarrold finally took the last steps to the engineering department, where he stood outside the door for a moment and took a deep breathe while preparing himself to go in and take command of his new department.

Once he was prepared Jarrold stepped up to the door and watched as it slid open. Things seemed to move in slow motion as he walked into engineering. So this was it, he was the Chief Engineer now.

"Computer, Lieutenant Commander Jarrold Scott reporting, transfer all chief engineering functions to me. Authorization Scott, Alpha-Beta-Epsilon."

"Authorization accepted. Transfer Complete." the computer replied.

Jarrold walked over to the ships warp engineer and took a long hard look at it. He would be responsible for the well-being of the entire ship and it started right here at the most important part of the ships systems.
"So Long And Thanks For All The Fish."

Lt. First class Yunisca debated on how she was suppose to handle her new position. Logically the first thing she should do, she supposed was head down to the councelors office. It would take some time getting use to the new positon, exspecially since she wasn't sure what she was suppose to do. "Computer record, Dear Captain Ja'arda, I will be in the councelors office, but I would like to speak to you when ever you are avalable, concurning my new postion. I have an ideal I would like to run by you, and would welcome any advice you might have, " "Computer stop recording and send the message to the Captain Ja'arda ." As soon as the computer voice informed her that her orders had been followed she headed to the councelors office.

As she walked into the Councelors office, she slowly glanced around it. She would have to add some personal touches later if the Captain Allowed her to. Slowly she pondered going through the old files, that just didn't feel right to her. She wanted to get to know the crew on her own, and let them come to know and trust her for her, not based on what she found in thier files left by the former head Councelor. That was part of why she wanted to talk to the Captain, she wanted to run the ideal of having each member come in at least once to meet her. Logicall she supposed she should also let her parents know. " Computer Record, Tiniala I am just writeing to let you know that I have been promoted to Lt. First Class and have currently been made head of the councling department. I hope to bring at least a little of our Vulcan logic to the people aboard this ship. Live Long and Prospor, mother. " " Computer stop recording and send the letter to Tiniala on the Vulcan home world. " "Well thats one down" she thought as she heard the computer confirm the order, "now for the other. " "Computer Record. Pak Nahk, Father I hope this letter finds you well. And on a day when it is a good day to die. I just thought I'd write you to inform you, I have been promoted to Lt. First Class, and have currently been made the Head of the councling department. I have a great debt to pay you for your help father and I hope to bring Honor to our name. " "Computer stop recording and send letter to Pak Nahk, on the Klingon home world." "There thats done, " she thought.

Slowly Lt. First class Yunisca let her self sink down into a chair, pondering what to do next.

The reply Murdock heard from Ken Freeman was kind of curious. It was one that he certainly didn't expect. Ken seemed to like the ship, but he wasn't quite sure what to make of those that he'd met.

He said that they weren't bad, but saying that hings could change kind of left it up in the air. Change could be either good or bad. There was no telling which was going to happen until it did, but the answer did seem a bit pessimistic.

"Well," Murdock drolled with a bit of a Texan accent. "We could either take you on a tour of the ship, so you can get to know where everything is. Or, we can go to the bridge so you can check that out. Or, we can see if we can find anyone else that isn't doing anything and see if they wouldn't mind the company."

Ken wasn't quite sure anymore if he had said what he wanted - in his opinion, he was just being cautious. He felt Murdock had asked for an elaborate opinion of the people Ken had met so far - and Ken just had a first impression, which he tried to pass on to Murdock, but no opinion he could be really certain about. It didn't seem fair to Ken to say what you thought about people if you had just met them minutes before.

"Well... I think I'll see more than enough of the Bridge..." Ken gave away a little grin, trying not to sound too negative. "So, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see the different parts of the ship. Propulsion and sensors are of course my greatest interest."

Ken definitely had the impression of having said something a little rude again... but he still felt right about it. He knew that feeling - popularity had never been something he knew.
