Jarrold had offered his assistance in helping Joy out with her holiday plans but he really didn't know much about christmas time. His family had never really celebrated the holiday. He knew why the time of year was celebrated on Earth and in fact surprisingly many different races had similar customs at about the same time of stellar year but he had never really participated in any festivities. His mother had tried to introduce Christmas to him when he was younger but it never really took. In fact this was the first time he had even thought about it since his 10th birthday.

Jarrold decided that maybe the best way for him to start was to research the Earth customs as they related to christmas, first however he wanted to take a shower and grab a bite to eat. He also knew just who he wanted to grab that bite to eat with. Reaching up he tapped his comm-badge. "Scott to Richards." he said. "Melissa I was wondering if you would like to join me for dinner."

On:

It had been months since he had a good nights sleep. Anthony laid in his bed reflecting on the conversation he had with his father several hours before. He still couldn’t believe that the hardened man he had feared and hated, the same man he had blamed for not doing enough when his mother and brother disappeared, had actually changed. For the first time in a long time Admiral William Ross had agreed with his youngest son on an issue. Anthony decided not to go to Starbase 375 immediately to see father as the Tarmon Ay was still a threat to Zealous. To leave now would seem like he was abandoning the crew.

When his father gave no objections and agreed to see him when the mission was over, Anthony felt as if he had died and gone to heaven. No stern look, no shouting, no saying how disappointed he was, just a plain composed look of understanding. Anthony closed his eyes and for the first time since he came onboard the Zealous, he felt happy.

"All sections, come about to 3-1-7 mark 2-6-5, and engage maximum warp. Take us out of Tarmon Ay space, and we'll reconnect when we're all clear."

The three ships came about and flew away from the scene of the battle and disappeared into hyperspace moments afterwards.

The Zealous had completed another mission successfully, and once again was safe from harm. Luke thought about all it had to endure since before he even came aboard. It was quite remarkable that the Zealous was still there, after all it had been through. Evil aliens, mutating crewmen and dangerous unknown phenomenon.
Having survived all this, it showed what incredible cunning this ship and its crew had. A good crew, an unique crew, a exceptionally banded group.
That was the Zealous, banded in brotherhood, inescapably linked to each other. That was the key to her constant success, her endurance.

Now safe in Federation space, the three ships dropped out of warp. Heavily damaged and in desperate need of repair, but safe and functional.
"All stop", Ducane said. "Commence reintegration procedures. Blue Alert”
Luke supervised the reintegration process, not taking his eyes of his console. It was hard to believe to automatic procedure still functioned, after the beating it had received during the battle. Luke had halfly expected it to be offline in which case he had to reintegrate the three parts of the Zealous manually. Thankfully there was no need for that, and moments later Zealous was One again. And finally Luke was able to calm down and rest.

He took a seat in one of the science stations chairs, since his tactical station didn’t have any. It was then when he felt blood running down both his legs. He looked down at his stomach… A piece of a bulkhead stuck into it…
He hadn’t noticed. He couldn’t feel pain, he couldn’t have felt the sharp point of the metal piece entering his abdomen. At first he just stared at the large severe wound, not really realizing how bad a condition he was in. He began to feel light-headed, a dizziness started taking hold of him, he heard his own heart beat so loudly in his head like it was an old train racing passed back in the days when fossile fuels we’re still used in large amounts.
His hands gripped for the metal piece in his stomach, wanting to tear the thing out of it. But then something unexpected happened. When he touched the piece, causing it to move slightly in his body, he felt….pain. Agonizing pain. He gave a grunt. He wasn’t supposed to feel this, he wasn’t supposed to react to it. The Tarmon Ay had taken that away from him, he would never get ‘Pain’ back. It was lost, destroyed with so many other things he had once took for granted. It could never have returned.
But now, he did feel it, and was reminded of the horrors it could create. But that didn’t matter, he could feel again. He was once again bound to the restrictions his humanity had set for him. Finally, after such a long time he felt a little bit human again….
And with that thought, he passed out. And despite the unbearable pain he felt, he smiled like he was in Heaven itself.

Ducane gave the order for their retreat and the three sections of the Zealous left Tarmon Ay space. Joy breathed a sigh of relief. The ship had taken heavy damage and would not have lasted much longer in that fight.

They reconnedted with the other parts of the Zealous to form one ship again.

The bridge was quite chaotic as damage reports kept coming in and the task of repairing the damage began.

It was then that Joy noticed Luke Osswell sit down in a chair near the station she had been working at during the battle. He looked a litle pale and it was then that Joy noticed the piece of bulkhead sticking out of his abdomen. As she stood up to see how bad he was hurt Luke passed out sliding from the chair to the floor.

"Robinson to sickbay Lt Osswell has a piece of bulkhead lodged in his abdomen can you beam him directly to sickbay?"

Jake Sjet was rambling on about the Daughters of Sol, but were his words from a delirious mind, or could there be some meaning behind them? Was there something there, a clue that the Zealous would need to eventually investigate? It was nearly impossible to tell sometimes with him, especially considering how his mind was linked with that of Valron.

"Are you talking about the Daughters of Sol? Who are they, Jake? Who can't find them? What would happen if someone did find them?" Azanialix wondered, hoping to keep him talking.

He had grabbed her collar, but his fingers were crumbling away. In all of the time that she had known him, since he had become infected with the nanites, that had never happened. Then again, he had never attempted anything like what he did which brought the shuttle closer to where the Zealous was located.

This was really wrong. A lump formed in her throat, fearing that she was going to lose Jake Sjet, once and for all. It was never easy for her each he died, but he had always managed to find some way to return back to life. This time, however, she wasn't so certain that would happen with how his body was literally falling apart.

Tapping her Combadge, she called out, "Ja'arda to Ducane. I need you and Ti'ana Sullivan to report to the Shuttlebay immediately. I fear that Jake Sjet is near death."

Ti'ana heard the Captain's message to Alex and exchanged a hurried look with him before taking off for the turbolift. She ran down the corridor to the shuttlebay, skidding to a halt when she got there, and, locating the open shuttle, she ran into it, stopping and dropping to her knees beside the captain, and Jake. "Jake?" she asked.

He was far beyond feeling now, drifting on what felt like a wave of some ocean. He knew Zania was holding his hand.
"Zania...don't...don't let her see me...like this...please...." he croaked.
And then he heard her voice, and he wanted to cry, to shed a tear. But he found that that ability was gone now.
"Stay...a...way...."

Her face hardened and she sniffled, taking his hand from the captain, who relinquished it with a sympathetic look. "How many times do I have to tell you, don't tell me what to do." she said with the kind of humour one uses when they think all hope is lost.

"I....forgot..." he said, trying to laugh but found it to painful. Instead he squeezed her hand as best he could, allowing his thumb to fall away in a shower of dust.
"I've...had...worse days..." he blinked slowly "Can't...remember...when though..."

She almost dropped his hand, but held her composure. "Can you tell me what's happening to you?" she asked softly.

"I don't know...I..." his face grew still for a moment, his voice lower than a whisper as he spoke through parched lips "Ti'ana...I'm...so scared..."

A solitary tear made its way silently down her cheek. "Is there anything you want, anything I can do?" she asked. The finality of the situation was almost overwhelming.

"Be here..." he said, "I...want you...to be happy...I...I...don't know...what will happen...it's very cold now..."
The montion of his hand stopped, and for a moment he was apparently gone from any amount of help.
"Ti'ana..." he said "You....need to get everyone...back...get them away..."

"What?" she said, confused. But she turned to the captain, who had heard the request, opened her mouth to ask, but the captain simply nodded, and stood. Everyone began to move away, everyone but Ti'ana. "Jake, why?"

"Something...wonderful...will happen..." he said in a almost relevant voice "Something...that...will burn the wounds...I will die..." His kin was sunddley seen to begen to crumble like sand stone.
"If I am...unable to follow as Achillies tutor did..." his unifrom began to fall in on its self "Remeber...us..."

She scooted away on her bum as he crumbled away, watching in horror. "I will." she whispered in reply.

As the dust that had been Jake Sjet settled, something so strange that at first it seemed unreal began to happen. Something that should never happen on space ship.
A breeze began to pix up the larger peices, turnhing them into a fine dust along with everything else. Soon three streaking columns of white dust...no...light! Three columns of light began to dance around the shuttle bay, their tiwsting and gyrating paths sending them around and through the shuttles sat in their bays.

One of these tendrils of energy threaded its way around Ti'ana's form, and after a moment of spinning in front of her face streaked off to join up with its two brothers as they arced around each other in tighter and tighter curcles.

She watched as the light danced around her, then streaked away. The essence of Jake. She watched, wondering what would happen next

Ti'ana had rushed off to Jake. After ordering repairs, Alex spoke to the computer, "Computer, Initiate a site-to-site transport to the shuttlebay."

The computer obliged, and Alex appeared in the shuttlebay, and what a sight there was.

When Alex materialized within the Shuttlebay, a huge sigh of relief escaped Captain Ja'arda's lips. A moment later, Jake Sjet had disappeared in a pillar of light. "By the Four Dieties, we're too late," she muttered softly, sorrow filling her voice.

"Too late?" queried Alex, as he rushed forwards. "Was that Jake?" he said, now worriedly. "Jake!?" he yelled.

As the three glittering streams of light slowly spun around each other in ever more complex manoeuvres, curving in arcs no animal or machine could ever hope to achieve. They began to raise up from the empty remains of the shirt and shorts that had been turned effectively into a eye patch by the nanites.

Suddenly they united they united into a single globular sphere, a perfect shape created by nature and redefined by gods own hand. Like a sun. As the ball of light spun in the shuttle bays rafters its colour began to shift. It appeared to be cooling, rapidly shifting down from glaring white to light blue and then down into the angry reds.

Soon it appeared very much like Sol's very own sun.

"I'm afraid so," Azanialix answered, trying to fight back the tears that threatened to emerge from her eyes. No sooner had she said that, the beams of light had formed into a sphere of fire. "Alex, any idea what's going on?"

Alex's eyes widened. "He's not dead", he said softly, and simply. "He's very much alive", he began. He glanced at Ti'ana, and looked back at the fireball in midair. "He is no longer corporeal."

"His body is gone, but his essence is here"

The miniature fusion reactor began to wobble in size, soon expanding and retracting wildly as glowing flares of fire and light shot from its surface. One of these arms caught onto the bulk head and with roar of tortured titanium a blackened seam began to grow from the tendrils passage.

The whip retracted suddenly retracted and the ball began to once again cool down further, shifting into a dark blue and then slowly it fell to the floor. When it hit the deck it was a perfectly smooth silver ball.

In all of the previous times that Jake's physical form had died, he had managed to return to life somehow. The Betazoid wasn't sure exactly how it happened, but it just did. Now, they were watching something that was nothing less than amazing.

Was this how Jake was able to come back to life time after time again? Or was this a new manifestation of his physical form which even he had not been aware of?

"Lieutenant Ducane, take some readings and develop a hypothesis based on your findings," she requested of the Medical Officer.

Alex was happy. The Captain, whom he'd wanted to see for a long time had returned, and was giving him orders. Now, he was sad, Jake had turned into a ball, and Alex hadn't a clue what had happened. So he went to grab a tricorder.

As Alex moved toget a scanner the ball suddenly rolled towards him and stopped almost as suddenly as it had started. Being no larger than a soccer ball it didn't look to threatening.

Then it spun on the spot for a second and then seemed to accelerate like a pin ball towards one of the Zealous undanamged shuttles. Striking the hull their was a shirek of metal and sparks the bal began to burrow into the ship.

Captain Ja'arda's eyes widened as the ball started to damage a shuttle. At the rate things were going, Starfleet was going to start seriously questioning her about why she always needed replacements, which could even lead to a court martial. "I'm open to suggestions," she noted, hoping to stop this ball of light before it could destroy the ship.

Alex held up a tricorder towards it... readings were inconclusive, and he couldn't explain them. "The tricorder readings are telling me nothing....", then he had an idea.

Alex stepped around, until he was directly opposite the ball, and said, "Jake?"

Suddenly with a pop, the ball had broken through the shuttles hull and was into the inside. A light like sun shine shining off water began to dance from the shuttles blackened windows.

And suddenly, a shrill call rang out from the hole. More of a chirp or whistles than anything human, it was followed by a series of bark like calls. The light from inside, remained however.

What was happening was very strange, to say the least. The liquid-like light from the sphere seemed warm and inviting, almost beckoning her to gaze upon it. The sounds did not instill a feeling of fear, but just furthered her curiosity as to what was taking place.

Walking over to the sphere, she peered inside the opening to try and determine what might be within it.

Alex looked at the Captain, gazing into her black eyes, he mentally told her that he had no idea. "If Jake's going to become corporeal again, he'll either have to do it himself, or we have to find a technological way of doing it"

From the hole in the shuttles side a glint of silver could be sine dancing in the light, and then their was a flash. Something glinting in the light of the shuttle bays over head lightning.

And a evanescent blue glow streaked from the shuttles wounded side to above one of the Zealous twin Argo class ground transporters. And sat atop it was a beautiful, silver bird. A bird, whom sat delicately preening its long and obliviously metallic feathers. Each wing ended in a long streamer of feathers, and its plumage along its forward made it appear robotic.

Yet its actions, and its eyes, clearly denoted an organic intelligence riding the controls.

The sight of the bird was stunning, yet oddly familiar. The shape of the beak, the talons, plumage, but most of all the silver feathers - all of them seemed to be something that she had seen before.

That's when it dawned on her. "It looks like a rare nighthwind," she told Alex. "On Betazed, it's considered as good fortune to spot one of these majestic birds when all three moons are visible."

"It's intriguing... but what does it mean?"

"It's difficult to say. Spotting a nighthwind can also be an omen of great change. One was spotted shortly before the Jem'Hadar invaded Betazed with the Cardassians," Zania noted solemnly.

Turning to Alex, she wondered, "What do you think we should do?"

"If it is the essence of Jake, I think we should see if we can communicate with him."

"How do you propose that we do so?" Azanialix asked. "Nighthwinds are known to be telepathic, but a Betazoid cannot communicate telepathically with a nighthwind."

"But this is Jake... can you sense him?"

Captain Ja'arda closed her eyes and concentrated, but then slowly shook her head. "I'm sorry, but there's too many emotions. I can't tell. I can't get a good sense," she started to say.

Slowly the bird's face turned to look down at Zania from its vantage point, and with a graceful flap of its wings took flight. Circling above them for a moment it curved downwards in ever decreasing circles.

As it reached the height of everyone's eyes it began to glow again, a burning azure blue. The spinning twirling vortex was all that was now the birds form now lost for ever.

And as the glow sub sided the familiar glowing form of Jake Sjet reappeared, his bare back now covered in a glowing nova like tattoo of a pair of angelic wings. He turned slowly to face Zania.

And after taking on step, his naked form fell to the floor bare to the world.

Zuub left the shuttle after it docked on Zealous. She did not like this situation. First, she had been placed on a shuttle to go on an away mission. Then, the away mission had been cut off. Finally, all the medical need appeared to be here and she knew that she did not completely trust an EMH to do everything. Ducane was the acting CO, so he couldn't help in sickbay. No, it was clearly up to her to take charge.

She walked at a determined pace. Similar to all Andorians, stress only made her appear more calm. Too much, however, would make her go berserk and could only make a bad situation worse. However, to date, she had never gone berserk. Most things were capable of being handled.

No sooner that she had gotten to sick bay, she heard a call from Murdock stating, "Medical emergency in the shuttlebay." Zuub responded, "I assume since you did not do any emergency beam to sickbay that transport is an issue. I'll have a team beam to you immediately." With that, Zuub instructed the nearest two medics to do a point to point beam.

Just after, the ship rocked and Zuub heard, "Robinson to sickbay Lt Osswell has a piece of bulkhead lodged in his abdomen can you beam him directly to sickbay?"

Zuub responded, "Beam commencing." Zuub thought to herself, ~Lieutenant Osswell? He was the one that was acting strangely around the Counselor.~ Just as she thought that, she saw the form of Lieutenant Oswell appear on a biobed. She checked his vitals and stabalized his condition. She made sure to knock him out as she extracted the bulkhead. First checking to make sure that there was no shrapnel in Oswell, she stopped the bleeding and closed the gaping hole in Oswell. Zuub decided that letting Oswell rest for a bit would be wise. She waited to see if more casualties were on the way or if they were finally done with the Tarmon Ay.

"What the hell?"
"What is it Spade!" Ti,ana demanded.
"Its..." Jake didn't know what to say. He double checked his sensors.
"Its Santa Clause?"
"Spade, what the hell are you talking about? Get ready for re-integration. " she said irritably. Santa Claus. Pish.

Jake was suddenly very red in the face. Santa Clause? How could it have been Santa Clause? He checked his sensors again. And of course, Santa wasn't there. But he HAD seen something. No matter what anybody else said. It most likely wasn't Santa he had seen. Even though it may have somehow resembled Santa, it couldn't have been really him.
Unless... he was going insane.
He quickly shook that thought from his head.
As soon as the three parts of the Zealous came together Ti,ana left the bridge quickly. She seemed excited. Probably about seeing her freinds again. Jake did not feel excited about anything. Quite the opposite in fact. He decided he would go to his quarters. Yea. Thats what he'd do. He was off duty and deserved a break. He'd take a long sonic shower and then go to bed. Thats what he needed. To rest and relax to clear his head.

Off: I'm sorry if my last post caused anybody any confusion. I probably should have thought about what I was writting a little more before I posted it.

As Jake rested on the floor, trying to remember the simplest thing such as hand to eye coordination and the uses of his other limbs he felt warmth.

Not the same warmth of a strong bourbon or the rosy fires of a night passion, but still as welcome as both. The warmth that only cloth and cover could provide, and it was as welcome as the first snow drop on a Christmas morning.

This, for a ‘Martian’ at any rate, was an odd simile to use with Mars’s lack of traditional snow. Or water for that matter, or air…or a blue sky...which he had found to be a real novelty when he was on Earth for the first seven seconds.

Then he just missed the faithful rust coloured rocks of his home, for anything familiar. He still had the rock n his room painted in a crude mix of red house paint which he had found after two months in San Fran...after looking up what paint was seeing as back home he lived under ground and not in a house so to speak.

“Sickbay I guess…” a woman’s soft tones echoed in his ears for a moment, her words gracing his mind like a soft caress.

Flexing on hand he spread the fingers slowly and provided himself with a base to help him stand up. Shifting his weight slowly onto one arm he heaved himself up onto one side, and then promptly rolled over so he was looking up.

Squirming suddenly in the harsh over head light he reacted on reflex, raising his other arm to protect his eyes and curling his body into a ball.
He felt a hand touch him, concern and feelings of something else burst from the contact.

Yelping in surprise he shifted backwards, still shielding his eyes he looked up. Flashes of facers, names and memories floated up through the haze. And soon he became painfully aware that whilst he knew them all, knew what they ate, what they did, what they liked…he did not ‘know’ them.

It was…like he had inherited some strange and wonderful furniture for a crazy auntie or bizarre uncle, and whilst each piece was as interesting as the next it didn’t all seem to gel with the current decor. And some of it was plain old distasteful and tacky.

Looking at each face closely he tried to remember which face connected to which name, and soon enough his mind was filled with a ‘tree’ of sorts.
“I…” he began “Kows…”

Huum, he thought, not quite right that one.
“I…” he said, slower this time “Canto’jun ukano.”

Okay, he grumbled, one last time before I break out that dusty old sign language that was stuffed down Jake…my, throat.

“I…am…back…” he said “I…am…Sjet…”
Bravo voice, he whistled mentally, you’d make Shakespeare cry with envy.

"Scott to Richards." he said. "Melissa I was wondering if you would like to join me for dinner."

After the fast and furious shuttle ride in and dealing with the Tarmon Ay, Melissa was more then ready for dinner! Her head felt like it had been through a centrifuge on fast spin.

She tapped her combadge. "Hi Jarrold. Sure, I'd love to. Give me a little bit to get my head straight, that Tarmon Ay mission didn't quite go as planned and I am still feeling the effects from it."

Murdock watched as something strange happened to Jake. He somehow changed into a pillar of light, then into a blue bird, and finally into himself again. In a way, it kind of reminded him of the old myth of a phoenix, rising from the ashes. Jake had died a number of times, yet he always seemed to come back to life.

Alex, Ti'ana, and the others had things well in hand, which meant that the helm officer could return to what he should have done some time ago. Walking back into the shuttle, he made his way past Lorena and began to power down the systems, running a final check as he did so.

Lorena . . .

Why was she still in the shuttle? He would have thought that she would have been in the shuttlebay where the commotion had been taking place. He still felt hurt over how she yelled at him, and yet instead of addressing the problem, she seemed to just ignore it. At this point, he was beginning to wonder if she even wanted a friendship with him at all.

Postby Quamada » Tue Dec 21, 2004 2:02 pm

OOC: "Tag: Quamada, (hope you don't mind me putting you
somewhere.)"

Nope- don't mind at all! :)

IC:

Quamada held tightly to the window casings as the ship shook, staring out into the star-speckled black as an odd red-coated man flew through the air-less space riding a sleigh pulled by eight strange looking creatures. How could they survive out there? There was no way!

It seemed all the injuries had to be going to SickBay, which was good. The Lounge, as far as Quamada knew, would only be used when SickBay got all filled up. Less injuries were a good thing.

Once away from the fighting, a few people trickled in. Quamada stood in the Lounge, trying to keep busy, but there wasn't enough to do. What should she do?

On a wide grassy plain bordered by a thick forest on one side, a great army gathered. Trumpets blasted their notes through the air, horses screamed, men roared. Opposite them, a rag-tag team faced them, swords, bows, and even pitchforks in their hands. Some rode horses, some stood with their feet sturdily on the ground. They were vastly outnumbered by the great army, yet they were singing. And the ethereal sound of their singing chilled the blood of their enemies.

The great army charged, banners flying in the wind. Arrows shot out from the forest toward their marks, and men fell from horses screaming. A group of riders broke off from the great army, charging the forest, and soon screams arose from the deep darkness under the sturdy trees. Arrows still rained on the approaching army, and, still singing, the villagers braced for the attack. Men and women stood side by side, singing their war song, with drums beating behind them.

As the fighting went on, and the sun rose higher, both sides grew weary. The greatly reduced numbers of the vast army withdrew some distance, while the villagers gathered together, still small. Children ran from hiding with the elderly, carrying great pitchers of water and wafers of bread, as well as bandages to tie up the wounds. Others ran toward the forest with the same treasures carried in their arms, seeking out those hidden there in the safety of the forest's shadows.

Quamada smiled a little. This much she could do. They had no bread as of yet, but she could carry water to the warriors. For they were not so different from her own people. Leaving Vin'Ti to handle the few who had come to the Lounge, Quamada filled two pitchers of water, stowed cups in a makeshift apron-basket, and carried the water on her shoulders through the halls.

She reached engineering with one pitcher still full. One man was searching desperately for water, and so Quamada approached him, filling a cup of water for him from her pitcher.

"You read my mind, I could use a drink." he said.

She smiled, and held back from correcting him. She had not read his mind, but she remembered, that was a figure of speech. Giving him the cup, she looked around the room, full of technology she did not understand, and asked him. "Are there any here in need of medical attention?"

Slowly the world retruned to normal, no longer was he surrounded by a bleak grey hell now, he was...
His chest rose up slowly, and began its pattern of life all over again. Cracking his eyes open he coughed lightly.
"Hey..." he said slowly "Some party...."

Ti'ana leaned back with a sigh of relief. "Jake I swear your going to give me grey hair."

“Huuumm..." he said slowly, closing his eyes with a weak smile creasing his lips "grey hair...on you...huum, sexy.!”

She shook her head. "I don't think so Jake. Can I help you up?"

"Yeah..." he said slowly and leaned up into a sitting position "Might as well....man, what did we drink...my head..."

"You were *drinking*?" she yelled at him. Then, "Never mind. You
had a little ...transformation episode. You’re bound to have a headache."

"Well I'm sure...." as he got up he staggered forward, his hands flying to the jacket protecting his modesty or what remained of it "If this is what its like after someone dies. I don't recommend it....its NOT fun........" he regretted shouting, as the ache behind his eyes grew stronger.

She held his arm and smiled. "Do you want to go to sickbay, or your quarters to get some clothes?"

"Either will do...quarters might not be such a hot idea..." he sighed "I just need to find a replicator...that’s all I need right now..." he suppressed a yawn.

"A replicator?" she asked. "For what, clothes?"

"Yeah....something breezy...Hawaiian shirt maybe?" he thought for a moment, and turned to face Ti'ana "Look, I'm sorry for that back there..."

"For what?" she said. "You did nothing wrong, except maybe get drunk on a shuttle." she mocked. "For which you will pay later, I might add." she teased. "We'll go to sickbay first, you can get a once over, then your quarters. There is a replicator in sickbay, we'll get you some
clothes."

"Oh..." he laughed lightly "That sounds like a good idea...though I'll have to wonder how I’m going to pay for that, I did drink a lot...I think..." he stopped "And for some reason I can't get the image of a cat out of my mind."

She looked at him like he was nuts. "A cat? Jake, what are you on about?"

"GAH!" he called out, slamming the flat of one hand onto his face. Quickly ducking out of Ti'ana's arms he made a break for the shuttle.
After a moment, and still cluthching the sleeves of the jeacket that were holding it in place Jake walked out carrying his duffel bag. Thankfully it was unscathed from the nanite feeding frenzie.
"Here." he said, ever so slightly breathlessly "Open..."

She gave him a look, and unzipped the bag. A small furry head poked out. She gasped in delight. "Oh, a kitten!" she said, gently lifting him out.

"And..a rock..." he smiled "Happy...anniversary..."
Reaching out with one hand he gave the liuttle critter a tap under the chin, resulting in the little fur ball to try and lean side ways.
"He's yet to be named...you can if you want..."

She smiled, and kissed his cheek. "I'll think of something. Right now, let's get you some clothes."

"Nah...I'm good..got the whole air flow thing going for me." he joked.

She narrowed her eyes and spoke in a low voice, only meant for him to hear. "For your inormation, I am the only person allowed to see you naked, we are getting you some clothes." she said with mock severity.

"Yes ma'am." he said, offering a light salute "Anything else you require?"

She smiled. "Well, we both need to visit sickbay, so let's beam straight there. You are NOT walking around this ship nekkid."

"Whoa slow down," he said "'we' you injured?"
He glanced over her slowly, her energitic form seeming to shift futher into the infared and then back into the electromagnetic he was used to.
"Where?"

"Oh, no big Jake, calm down. The ship got hit, I was standing up at the time, fell over, that kind of thing. Not a big deal."

"No, no your coming with me." he took her arm in his "Head trauma's rarely show up when they happen." he placed a finger carefully on her lips.
"Which one of us has a Starfleet Medical Degree?" he smiled "That right ya little butt kicker, me not you so for once...listen to me okay? You never know, you might like it."

She smiled that smile just for him, and ordered a site to site tranport to sickbay. They materialized a few seconds later, and she stepped to the nearest replicator and repliacted a jumpsuit, handing it to him. "Here"

"Grey was always my colour," he said stepping behind a screen.
his head popped out the other side with a grin.
"No peaking okay? I'm in a very fragile state." Yeah he was mad all right, madly in love but that was for sonnets not for pulling socks on.

She smirked and turned around. "Computer, activate emergency medical hologram." The EMH shimmered to existence. "Please state the nature-" "Hey, he needs a physical and I hit my head. Pretty hard." The EMH looked at her ascerbiclly.

"I do not need a check up!" a voice called out from behind the screen "As for her, a full CT scan, throw in a MRI for fun and balance the tyres while your....huum...on second thought do the first two and I'll balance the tyres my self."
The EMH glanced at the remaining Starfleet officer.
"I'm sorry, but i can not proccess your request because you are not registers in my data files as an enlisted crew member."

Ti'ana rolled her eyes. "He DOES need a check up and I have a cuncussion. Him first, that's an order." she said, looking pointedly at Jake peeking out from behind the screen. The EMH moved to obey.

"Hey..." he said, hopping one footed out from behind the screen, legs in his pants whilst he was doing up the left hand shoe "Stay back…I know two kinds of...something or other, but it'll smart that I'll tell you."
The EMH continued to advance.
"Ti'ana, save you man before the holo has its evil way with me!" he said in a mock voice, taking a hypospray and holding like a fencing sword with the hypo out stretched and his other armed curled up like a scorpions tail.

The EMH grabbed him and pushed him to a biobed, and Ti'ana started to laugh. "Sit still Jake, and THAT's and order." she said, smiling.

"I'm a civilian!" he called out as the EMH picked up a piece of medical equipment Jake recognised all to well.
"No, no, no. You most definitely are not putting that there!" he called out, continuing to struggle "Ti'ana theirs a difference between a check up and an examination! Thats why I examined NO ONE!!!!!!!!!"
A screen went up around the sick bay bio bed, and the noises that echoed from inside were anything but pleasant.

She leaned on a bio bed, laughing histerically. "Jake, if the others could hear you now. You big baby."

The screen disappeared and Jake just panted, leanin over the bio bed.
"I've...been...violated!" he said "And if anyone saw that they'd symapthise! No man should have to go through that!"
"He is in perfect health." the EMH reported "Though the lack of internal organs is some what worrying."

"Lack of-what?" she yelled at the EMH. "Lack of internal organs." The EMH repeated. "How can he be in perfect health without organs?" she asked it. It blinked back at her. "Please rephrase the question." "Oh nevermind." "Now I will scan you, please sit." Ti'ana sat, having no desire to be manhandled by a hologram.

"Smart move Ti'ana, I swear this new EMH is part Russian super model part Sumo." the EMH turned and shot him a glare that suggested regualr examinastion in his near future "I meant in strength! Strength! Have I told you what beautiful holograms you have?"

"Jake shutup." she murmured while the EMH scanned her head, and ran a regenerator over her forhead, then gave her a hypo. "You'll be fine."

"Thank you, computer, deactivate EMH." she said as she hopped off the bed.

She turned to Jake. "You hungry? I hear dying can work up an appetite." she said, picking up the kitten and cuddling it.

"Hye...I mean I feel great!" he said, flexing one arm "Really, look at me...I've never left this great, its like I';ve never known illness or anything its....if i didn't knwo all of these things side effects I'd urge you to try this out...quite the rush."
He took her arm in his and nodded.
"Buit I digress, so whats on the menu? Take out or eat in? Or dinner by star light?"

Oh, we're eating in." she said with a smile, leading the way to his quarters, where he could get some proper clothes.

"Grand, turely. Now lets just hope the repliactor doesn't mistake me for a Dav Bowman and we'll be home free!" he sighed with a smile "So, tell me what happened while i was away?"

"We recovered the rest of the star crystals. We completed the mission the captain set for us. We ran into some Tarmon Aye, they weren't very nice, and, that's the long and short of it." she said as they reached his quarters, and keyed open the door.

"Funny I thought it was the short and short of it." he said as a joke "Still, interesting....and crystals? or the sort I’m suppose the find one day and slip on your finger or do they have some more powerful purpose?"

"I haven't even tried to understand them, they are almost mystical in their power." she said.

"Bah...magic....everything can be traced back to science." he stopped "Look at me, I turned into a bird...a neat trick but simple when you realize I have machines that can rearrange an atom to spell 'bob' on command. I'm sure their merely a form of science we have yet to understand."

She smiled. "I know, but they are beyond me at this point." She went over to the replicator and replicated a plate of cajun catfish and rice pilaf for herself. "What do you want?"she asked.

"Huum..." he said standing next to her, and after wrapping one arm around her he lightly kissed her neck.
"I don't think the replicator can make my order..." he whispered.

She smiled and turned. "Well, it just so happens that I am hungry." and she went to the table and sat down to eat.

Sighing in a put upon manner he typed an order into the replicator and returned with a plate containing...
Sawing a lump of the raw steak Jake put it into his mouth and chewed thoughtfully.
"I need a job...or somin..." he noticed she was looking at him "What?"

She shook her head at his odd eating habits. She would have to get used to that. "Nothing. And I am sure that we can come up with something for you to do."

"I was thinking along the lines of something in the lounge, you know..." he took another bite "I'm going to have to adjust to be around more people, and people are going to have to adjust to being around me...might as wel be in an enviroment where I'm equal to them."

She sensedpossible disaster coming on. "Well, I guess if thats what you want.." she said.

He felt a flare of uncertanty and so he tried to get her thoughts out.
"But I was thinking, seeing as I can't seem to stay in my kunifrom might as well use it to an advantage. What do you think to seting up my old quaters as a strip joint?"

She looked up at him and raised one vulcan eyebrow. "Bet you think you're funny don't you?" she quipped.

"I think your hidding something, and if I have to sell my self on the streets..." he sighed "Thats the price pay I guess..."

She sighed, chewing a piece of fish, then "You worry me to no end Jake. You get yourself in a lot of trouble, and I would very much like it if you were around in the future."

"I've died nine times in total, and each time I've come back. I think thats a pretty strong pattern there." he chewed again "Hell its self would need to stand up and bite my butt to try and stop me from seeing you, trust me."

She grinned and went back to her dinner. "Good." she said simply

"So, you think me getting a job in the lounge is a bad idea?" he asked again, flicking a carrot stick which had accompanyed the steak on its joureny into his mouth.

"I am just saying, be careful, and please try not to cause any trouble."

"I am a gentleman, and I reckon I got the whole transformation thing cracked." he laughed "I mean, come on whats the worst that could happen?"

The eyebrow went back up. "With you? I don't even want to know."

"Good point...what other choice do I have." he asked "I can';t stay cooped up like some animal...unless that what i am..to you..." he pushed the plate away.
"I done..." he said slowly.

She narrowed her eyes at him. "Jake, don't you go feeling sorry for yourself and trying to guilt me, it won't work. You know very well that in NOT what I think, I just worry, that's all."

"The at least trust me enough to know when it's likely to happen. If it does i can give out some warning, most of the empath’s in spitting distance would know before me what was happening and you'd know soon after them." he paused "There is another option we never thought of as a...Alamo solution to this problem."

She looked at him in confusion. "What?"

He tapped his cheat.
"Small anti matter charge right here, I go nutz the charge is set off by direct order from someone and booom...I go bye bye and no one gets a new mouth or anything. Chances would be iI'd simply come back like before."

She put her fork down in disgust. "Don't ever suggest anything like that again Jake Sjet. Ever. Do you understand?" she said, green eyes blazing

"What? its sensible, i would rather be dead than take a life like that..." he looked away "If tht life was yours...the simple fact is I'm pretty sure its shark like brain would get a taste for the stuff and there’d be no stopping it...its a sensible choice. That or lock me up."

She stood, went over to him, put her finger over his lips and said "Shutup" and she kissed him. When she pulled away, she asked. "Still want to take a space walk without a suit"?

"You offering." he joked half heatedly.

She narrowed her eyes and stared him down. "Depends, doesn't it?"

"Guess I'll take you up on that offer." he smiled. He stood up and kissed her fleetingly on the lips, a simple caress and nothing else.

She put her hands on her hips. "Your impossible, you know that?" The kitten came up and rubbed against her leg. She bent down and petted it absently.

"Impossible is my stock in trade of late." he said, noticing the fur ball "I'm glad this little guy was tucked away whilst I was all feathers and beaks. Don't fancy being cat food."

She smiled and cleared their plates, sticking them in the recycling slot. Then she picked up the cat, went over and gave him another kiss. "I'm going to my quarters to get some sleep. I'll see you in the morning, ok?"

"You taking the fuzz ball or does he keep me company tonight?" he asked "Cause me and animals don't get on to well..."

"He's coming with me. I will have to think about a name." she said smiling. "Goodnight Jake." she said, and left.

As she left Jake was resigned to spending a sleepless night by him self. Wanting to prove Ti'ana wrong, to prove he could be an active member of the Zealous without wearing the monkey suit of a officer he slipped on a fresh shirt and jeans and took off for the lounge.
The job hunt had begun.

Captain Ja'arda watched as Ti'ana took care of Jake. Their relationship had flourished, growing stronger and closer with every passing day. And, it seems as if the trip to Mars did wonders for Jake, relieving a lot of the tension that had existed, and may have also been seeping into his private life.

Turning to Alex Ducane, Azanialix smiled and suggested, "Well, I'm ready to return to duty whenever you wish to clear me. You're right, Alex. That vacation was just what I needed."

Zania's gaze turned thoughtful for a moment before she continued, "Since I was away from the Zealous during the latest incident, perhaps you could help me prepare a report for Starfleet? I would certainly appreciate your assistance, as well as your company."

"Certainly," the Medical officer responded.

"My Ready Room, then?" the Betazoid wondered, only to see Alex nod an affirmative. Smiling, the two of them exited the Shuttlebay and started to make their way up to the Bridge.

She tapped her combadge. "Hi Jarrold. Sure, I'd love to. Give me a little bit to get my head straight, that Tarmon Ay mission didn't quite go as planned and I am still feeling the effects from it."

Jarrold could certainly sympathize with her, he had been on several missions that didn't workout as planned and had learned that the best thing to do was to suck it up and move on. "Alright, how about we meet in the lounge in an hour and a half." he suggested.

He needed to relax and couldn't think of a better person to do it with. A quick sonic shower would also do him good. There was also the matter of helping Joy with the christmas celebration that she was planning.

The shadows of a archway seemed to darken the grey uniform which marked Garrett Kain as an Intelligence Officer. He had heard that the ship had the ship had picked up a shuttle which had returned from Mars. Was it them, or could it be a new crew member who had just been assigned to the ship?

His blonde hair seemed a few shades darker, as were his blue eyes as he watched Jake Sjet emerge from the shuttlebay with Ti'ana Sullivan. 'Subject number one confirmed,' he thought to himself as a small smile appeared upon his lips. They didn't know what was in store for them, which would make the surprise all the better.

All he had to do was to keep his nose clean and make sure that none of the other crew suspected him. He had already earned a whole room full of gold pressed latinum, enough to buy him his freedom if he were to ever to be imprisoned. This job, however, was his hardest yet, but would more than double his riches.

His mind was so entranced on the payout he would receive that he nearly missed the sight of Alex Ducane walking out of the Shuttlebay with Captain Ja'arda.

'Subject number two confirmed,' he thought to himself. 'Now to inform my contact.'

Silently, he disappeared down a corridor and eventually made it back to his quarters. The moment the doors slid closed behind him, he ordered, "Computer, seal doors."

He quickly walked over to his desk and sat down behind it, pressing a button to activate the terminal. A Starfleet symbol sat on the screen, indicating that it was ready for him to imput his next command.

"Computer, record message," he ordered.

He paused for a moment to allow the ship systems the time to do so, and then continued, "It's confirmed. The targets have returned to the Zealous. They seem to have no idea what you have planned for them. I expect to be rewarded handsomely for this. Kain out."

Pressing a button, Garrett told the computer console, "Encrypt message and send to the same destination as my previous messages. After confirmation of receipt of the message, erase recording."

He watched as the screen showed the progress and smiled. It wouldn't be long now before his benefactor would have his revenge. Getting up from the chair, he exited his quarters and returned to his duties.

(OOC: This is a new NPC, guys! We're putting him on the crew for a reason, so please don't bust him or reveal his plan. Black, since he's Intel, feel free to use him as necessary.)

"Alright, how about we meet in the lounge in an hour and a half." he suggested.

"I'll see you then." Melissa replied then moved to get herself ready. The first thing was to get rid of the Starfleet uniform that she'd been forced to wear on this last assignment and to take a quick half hour sonic shower. She changed to water halfway through and closed her eyes feeling the heat soothe away the tiredness in her muscles.

After that she found a soft yellow mid length dress and white sandals to wear, brushed and fluffed her hair, then looked at herself in the mirror. Thoughts of Luke went through her mind then she sighed. _I don't know what to do. Date them all? I'm not going to make a choice, they need to understand that!_

Now ready for Jarrold, the Chief Counselor left her quarters and minutes later was in the lounge waiting.

NRPG: Wait a minute?!?! I thought I was his personal repair crew  *pouts* Well I need to get posting to be in line for a promotion LOL.

RPG: Ma’riel felt like she needed to stretch even though her species never needed the act. It was almost a reflexive action from being around people too long. They had managed to hold the ship together and keep the shields and engines up while the ship had been split into three and each part taking heavy damage. Thomas was busy caring for the wounded that currently lay around the room resting their bodies. He had been a big help in their time of need. She would have to do her best to talk with him later and thank him.

The other engineering crews that were stationed on the other parts of the ship were trickling in now to either help with the main core or grab a few other needed items and then head back out to replace some fried relay or repair some broken coupling around the ship. Lord knows there was enough damage to keep the engineering crew busy for a while.

She spent most of her time making sure the energy got where it was most needed. She was going to try and get the warp core back up to 100% operation, but needed to pass that on to one of the other crew and spent her time stabilizing the artificial gravity as well as the life support systems in some of the more damaged sections of the ship.

“Hull Integrity back up to 79%, artificial gravity has been restored to main cargo bay and the few surrounding corridors, and backup life support systems are almost back up to fully operational,” Ma’riel stated to herself out loud as she cycled through the ship’s status reports.

She looked up to see Thomas stumbling out of the room. She was going to call out to him, but by the look of him and what he had just been through she thought it best to let him head back to his quarters. At least she hoped that’s where he was headed. She would catch up to him later.

“Now let’s see about those replicators in the galley,” she said with a smile as she went back to her status reports.

Let me take this opportunity to say it was a pleasure working with you all, whilst I was in command. Ducane out."

Zuub hits her commbadge =^= Lieutenant Ducane, it will be a pleasure to have you back in sickbay. Currently Lieutenant Oswell is here and in stable condition. Other than that, I believe I have left this place in as good condition as you gave it to me. I will be at the briefing. Is there anything else you require of me? =^=

After Luke was safely transported to sickbay Joy finished what she was doing on the bridge her shift coming to an end and headed back to her quaters.

As she entered the room it seemed as if she had not been in there for a while.

The photograph of her parents that usually sat on her bedside table had fallen to the floor obviously during the fight the Zealous had had with the Tarmon Ay. Joy picked it back up looking at her parents faces looking back at her. It certainly had been a long time since she had called home. Hopefully she would get a chance soon to catch up on events back at the resteraunt.

Joy headed for the shower and putting on a clean uniform felt much better.

The last few weeks had certainly been an experience she was not going to forget in a hurry but for now all she wanted to do was head down to the lounge to get something to eat.

As she entered the lounge there were a few other crew members in there enjoying the calm after the storm. The shape shifter engineer was there fixing the replicators which must have been damaged during the battle so Joy went over to the bar. The chef rustled her up something to eat Joy thought he was quite pleased that the replicators were offline as it meant anyone looking for something to eat in the lounge had to sample his cooking today.

Joy sat at a table by the window enjoying the view of the stars. Her concentration was broken by a ship wide announcement. "All hands. This isLieutenant Ducane, Captain Ja'arda has returned and resumed command of this vessel, and due to new orders received from intelligence, each and everyone of you are required to report to cargobay one at 1100 for a crew-wide briefing. Well that would put an end to any thaughts I was having about desert Joy thaought as she finished her meal and headed for the cargobay.

Black stood there watching as the Captain and Lieutenant Ducane made arrangements to have dinner together at 1200 hours. Black decided it was best to ignore this as Ducane left. Black felt rather out of place, and wondered if the Captain remembered he was still here.

"All hands. Black listened to the Captain, as she said this, before speaking. “I’ll dismiss myself now Captain. I’ve a few things that need to be done, before 1100 hours.” Black saluted as he walked backward out of the ready room.

NRPG: Engineering crew is dropping like flies and growing like bunnies.

RPG: Ma’riel was busy realigning the warp core when the announcement of the meeting came. Normally she would have stayed to her duties not being in the command structure, but Taneth was reported as MIA and Ma’riel took up the slack. She handed the controls over to one of the other ensigns before heading out toward cargo bay one.

She had managed to run into Thomas along the way and through some pointed questions was able to direct him toward cargo bay one. She wondered whether he was really up to the task of Starfleet the way he was acting. If she didn’t know better she would have thought he was lost in a dream. But who ever heard of people walking and talking while sleeping. Obviously Ma’riel didn’t know that’s exactly what Thomas was doing.

“So Thomas, why did you join Starfleet,” Ma’riel asked in a pleasant tone trying unknowingly to strike up a conversation with the sleeping man.

As Jake walked towards the lounge to speak with Quamada, that strange and oddly glowing woman of the drinks cabinet he began to hum to him self. He had always been told that if the Fleet hit the fan a job in a band would always be there.

But the ;last band to come from the red planet had been the Tarsi Crater Rollers...and they had promptly rolled into a class ten solar storm and thus making sure they remained immortalised as thee band of Mars.

As he passed an open door he heard someone else humming the same tune, and turning was confronted by an object that seemed to have leaped straight from the texts of some Greek History manual.

Standing at Jakes height of six foot plus the woman was slender but not stick figure thin. Her face was filled with an odd mix of chiselled lines and smooth contours, as though two mismatched faces had been put into a computer, randomised and this was the result.

Surrounding her were motes of light that seemed to bob and weave between each of her fingers and around her arms and the Greek style robe she had draped on her. On one hand she held a tablet of two, which apparently weighed far less than it appeared to weigh as she kept it level with just one hand. In the other she was concentrating on scrutinising each finger tip.

A silence stretched out as Jake looked through her, not in the unforgivably rude way but in the physical reason that she appeared transparent as a lavender haze.

She looked up, and noticed Jake for what seemed like the first time. Looking at him with solid mother of pearl eyes she furrowed her borrow and looked down at the tablet in her other hand. Taking her other index finger she held it above the stone slab and a beam of smooth light blasted from the digit and struck the stone and she slowly waved it back and forth as though erasing something to begin a new.

“Your architectures different…” the strange woman noted as thought Jake wasn’t even there

“Not by a wildly varying degree but still…we’ll need to get use to each other…”

She sighed heavily at the thought if a woman made up of light could be.

And before Jake could ask ‘Who are you?’ she began to walk away, turning on one sandal clad foot she began to retreat down the corridor., After a moment of gawking Jake gave chance, abet slowly so not to make it painfully aware he was following for all he knew to be the reincarnation of the Greek Goddess Athena.

She turned sharply and walked through a door as though it never existed. The door remained so Jake opened the door. A dense and humid fog rolled out and Jake forged his way in.

Some time later, an hour Jake limped into the lounge nursing a healing black eyes and a fused ankle from which a small knot of nanites were slowly repairing the damage. As he wasn’t in immense danger his auto healing systems weren’t running at combat readiness and thus to reserve carbon they worked in recycling everyting.

Sitting on the nearest bar stool Jake nodded at the bartender.

“Rough day?” the man asked as Jake ordered a coffee.

“Yeah…if three female security officers walk in and look at me like dirt, feel fre to give me a warning and five second head start…” Jake said, “I swear you walk in while their showering…and suddenly it’s a conspiracy…”

TAG-Quamada, the entertainment for the party has arrived.

Jarrold had just stepped out of the shower when the annoucement to report to the cargobay came in. He quickly dried himself off, having had a normal water based shower installed in addition to the sonic one. He never felt quit right after using the sonic shower and the sound waves played havoc with his sensitive hearing. Reaching into the armoire that sat in a corner of his quarters he pulled out a fresh uniform and got dressed.

Looking over at his bed he let out a sigh as he saw the clothes that he had pulled out for his dinner with Melissa. It seemed like duty was once again going to get in the way. He had planned on asking her to take a small leave with him while he went to Betazed to attend a symposism for telepaths. He hadn't been to one in a while and but he always liked going to them. It was a place where everyone was welcome but most non-telepaths felt slightly awkward as almost everyone spoke exclusively through mental touch while there. Oh well the symposism wasn't scheduled for another month and he had plenty of time to ask her. Besides he hadn't put in his own leave request, admittedly it was because he wanted to know her answer before he made reservations.

He remembered that he needed to have this uniform fitted properly, he had only recently got this one and it was still loose on him. He had always preferred a tight fitting uniform. Maybe it came from the fact that he spent so much time crawling through tights spaces when he was a member of the Trailblazers crew or maybe he just felt that anything else looked sloppy but either way he would definately have to get this one worked on.

After adjusting and tugging at the uniform for about the fifth time he gave up and headed to the turbolift. "Cargobay 1." he said as the door closed behind him.
