"Kae, girl, get your- Tsorinn! You scoundrel! Nasty, nasty kitty! Whoa! Stop that!"

Quamada turned at the commotion, just in time to see a large black striped brown feline streaking out from the kitchen, behind the bar counter, and out into the commons area, chased by a furious Vin'Ti.

"Excuse me," she said hurridly to Jake, before turning and running to cut Tsorinn off.

The cougar-sized feline laid back her ears and arched her back, tail lashing through the air, when confronted by the small girl, with Vin'Ti puffing up behind her.

"You aren't supposed to be here, you know, Tsorinn," she told the feline out loud and mentally. "Calm down now, there there."

"I should think you would be soothing me, not the cat," Vin'Ti said crossly. Quamada looked up apologetically, but Vin'Ti was having none of it. "How did she get out? My tartreth soup might be ruined!"

"I am sorry," Quamada said. Mentally to Tsorinn, she said, 'You've done it this time. You should be ashamed, Tsorinn! You should have stayed with Sheathe!'

The cat's fur laid back smoothly along her back again as she relaxed, purring her contentment, unphazed by either Vin'Ti or Quamada.

To Quamada's further embarrassment, it was that moment that the doors of the Lounge opened to admit the Captain.

Taneth's team had completed their search for the explosives. One was right under the weapons console, another inside the dilithium chamber, more in the cargobays with volitile substances. Some of them were tuned to a different activation frequency, apparently one set to disable the ship and another to destroy it. Just as he was completing his report, another officer approached him.
"Sir, Captain Ja'arda wants to see you at your earliest convenience"
Taneth nodded, and continued. Then something strange happened. The console he was working on went blank. Then words appeared.

"What the.." he turned off the message. It came back.

This time the message would not go away.

It stayed there for a few seconds, then the whole thing disappeared. The console returned to it's previous state. Computer logs showed no record of the message ever existing. Taneth decided that he would still at least inform the captain about this in his report.

'ok,' he thought, 'that was a little more impressive.'

Along the corridors of the Zealous, the form of Kyo continued his trek, his mind still full of questions, no longer for his past but about the Captain of this vessel, why she held such faith in a stranger such as him, the concept confused him greatly, yet that was to be expected, he was created to be a weapon first and foremost, he knew nothing the idea of trust, only that the strongest were to live and rule, and the weak were left to suffer and die at the hand of those who were powerful, yet the concept of a stronger entity showing pity or even faith in a weaker entity was completely alien to him. Lacking ideas, Kyo sighed heavily.
'This is going to be far more complicated than I had originally thought' thought Kyo as he continued to walk forward along the corridors, arching his eyebrow as he caught sight of Captain Jaarda moving into a room.
'What do we have here?' thought Kyo calmly as he moved towards the door, entering the room silently, before scanning the room around him intently, there were various people in the area, yet his eyes quickly befell the form of a young woman, with a large cougar sized feline resting it's back against her, purring contently. Kyo arched his eyebrow, intrigued by the act, before then turning to look forward, he scanned the area intently.

Seeing little or no use in communications, Kyo walked towards one of the windows, looking out into the void of space, a calm expression on his face as he looked out into the void, allowing his thoughts to wander.

'Be carefull here sir, don't want you to be smushed by a falling boulder now do we?!', A construction worker yelled from a scaffold hanging near a building under construction.
Luke looked around. It seemed like an entire city was being build. Tractors, digging machines, cranes as far as the eye could reach. But wait. The city wasn't being build, it was being rebuild. All the houses and flats and offices wore marks of destruction, burnmarks, grenadeblasts.
'What happened here?', Luke thought and started wandering through the halfcompleted buildings and ruins. Everywhere he looked there were men working, machines digging.
Now that wasn't so weird. The weird part was that the whole scene looked like an early 21st century construction site.
He felt something in his hand, a glass like object, slightly sharp, and a bit warm. Luke raised his arm and opened his hand and looked at the crystal.
'What's this?', Luke asked to no one. The crystal heated up, and started to give a purple glow that started spreading through his body. Simultaniously the happenings around speeded up to an incredible speed. Like a film when pushed on the fast forward button.
Luke walked through the fast going scene, while he himself stayed what was believed to be normal, it was breathtaking to watch and feel. His whole body being rebuild, just like this city. He could stay here forever. To stay forever in this state of healing. Because when you heal, you can't be hurt, and if you can't be hurt, you feel no pain, and feeling no pain, means being lucky, and that's what he was now: Lucky.
The purple glow of the crystal started to diminish. And with that the rebuilding slowed down. Now being able to see clearly again, he saw that the city was completed, rebuild.
His body was completed.
Rebuild.
Healed.
Before he knew it he was back in Sickbay, and he saw a medical officer retract the hypospray from his neck. He felt the crystal still in his hand. It's warmth and glow diminishing, now that its task had been completed.

Sickbay had finally begun to settle down and Jalovel thought that perhaps she might get that chance to make it to the lounge for the drink with Murdock. This bajoran medical officer was one tired woman and she doubted she would be up for any stimulating conversation. But if Murdock wanted to talk, then she was more than willing to listen to him. She found his Texan accent to be quite charming.

After making certain that all her tasks for the day were complete, she let the staff know she was leaving for the day and where she could be reached in case an emergency were to arise where her assistance would be needed. Jalovel doubted very much that would happen. Ducane was more than capable of handling things on his own. In fact, she wondered if she was actually needed at all.

The lounge was crowded, but Jalovel managed to find an empty table near the back of the room by one of the windows. She didn't like large crowds and tended to avoid them whenever possible. But she had said she would be here, and here she was. After ordering and then receiving her drink, she slowly sipped the beverage and waited for Murdock to arrive.

Murdock watched as Alex came over and tended to Vaskel, who had been wounded during the skirmish with Luke. He still didn't know why Luke would have attacked the chief of engineering like that. Had the Tarmon Ay done something to him, to screw up his mind?

Alex said that Vaskel would be fine, and then went back over to Luke. The Vulcan then turned to Murdock and asked if he could depend on him to work up a strategy for dealing with the Tarmon Ay again, and hand pick those would be part of the assault team.

"You betcha!" Murdock replied with a nod, to which Vaskel suggested that the sooner he start on it, the better.

Seeing that the medical officer he had spoken with earlier was probably still busy, he decided it was probably best to leave sickbay and head back to his quarters. That way, he could maybe get a leg up on these plans that Vaskel had asked him to work on.

He was just about to walk out of sickbay when he heard a female voice ask, "Just where do you think you're going?"

The lanky Texan spun around, finding himself face to face with another woman . . . the EMH that had been installed at the start of this past mission. "Uh, back to my quarters. I gotta project to work on."

"Not so fast," she reprimanded, pressing a hypospray into his neck.

Stunned, he asked, "What was that for?"

"To counteract the radiation you and the rest of the away team were exposed to," she explained.

He rubbed his neck, slightly, where she had pressed the hypospray into it, and said, "Thanks."

During the walk back to his quarters, his mind drifted. Murdock knew that he should be focusing on that strategy, trying to work out different scenarios and how to approach them, but all he could think about was that shy, young, medical officer who had tended to his foot.

For some reason, he just could not get her out of his mind. Her shyness only made it worse . . . it added to the air of mystery that she seemed to possess. That only strengthened his resolve to not only get to know her better, but also to help her. If he could find some way to break down that wall of shyness she was hiding behind, it could help her in the long-run.

Realizing that there was no way he'd be able to work on that project Vaskel had asked him for, at least not at the moment, Murdock decided to head to the Lounge. That's where he had asked the medical officer to meet up with him after her shift was over.

As he walked into the Lounge, he could see that there were a number of people who were already there, probably taking advantage of the end of the mission to get in some relaxation. He spotted the Captain, Jake, and a few others.

His brown eyes were almost immediately drawn to a lone figure, sitting at a table near the windows. It looked like she beat him to the Lounge, getting off of her shift earlier than expected.

Without hesitating, he made his way over and sat down in the chair across the table from her. "Hey, skeeter! Thanks for takin' care of that foot for me."

When Captain Ja'arda walked into the Lounge, it looked as if there had just been a bit of a commotion. She wasn't quite sure what had happened, but that was no matter at the moment. Some of her officers were already here, and there was still a matter of set up in anticipation for the promotions.

Jake was sitting at a table, off to the side, and all alone. As soon as things were settled with the arrangements, then she intended to talk with him. She had been reluctant to allow him to pursue his idea, when he had first proposed it. She didn't want to risk any more of her crew being captured by the Tarmon Ay. Yet, by the four Dieties, he managed to pull it off. She wasn't quite sure how, but he managed to do it, and for such she owed him an apology.

Turning to the individual with the large feline, the Betazoid introduced herself. "I'm Captain Azanialix Ja'arda, commanding officer of the Zealous. You must be the new Lounge Manager?"

The Captain entered, her eyes scanning the lounge quickly before landing on Quamada and Tsorinn.

"I'm Captain Azanialix Ja'arda, commanding officer of the Zealous. You must be the new Lounge Manager?"

Quamada nodded quickly. "Yes, I am." Looking down at the still nonchalent feline, she said quickly, "I apologize for Tsorinn's prescence- I don't know how she got out......"

How embarrassing! She hadn't been on the ship long, and already she had proved herself unable to control her animal companions. Not that she had ever been able to control them, but appearances are nice. Well, good, in control appearances are....

"Come on back, kitty," Vin'Ti said, noticing Quamada's flushed face.

'Go,' Quamada echoed the command with her mind to the stubborn feline.

With tail waving slowly, liquid-like through the air, the feline turned and smoothley followed the cook away from the commotion.

Azanialix had to try had to hide her amusement, despite the fact that the Lounge Manager apologized for the actions of her feline companion. "It's quite alright," Captain Ja'arda replied with a warm smile.

She glanced around the room and then focused her attention on Quamada. "I know this is rather short notice, but I was wondering if you might be able to arrange something for an impromptu promotion ceremony about an hour from now," she wondered.

Quamada looked a bit shocked by the short amount of time allotted for the request. This prompted Zania to continue, "Since we do not have any Admirals on board, it would not be formal, so there would be no need for a full spread of food. Vin'Ti, I'm sure, would be able to put together some appetizers, and you would have the replicators at your disposal for anything else. Do you think you would be able to handle this?"

"I believe so, Captain," Quamada responded.

"Wonderful! If you need to ask any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be right over there, speaking with Commander Sjet," the Betazoid indicated.

Zania began to walk over in Jake's direction. On the way, she tapped her Combadge and announced, "Attention all crew. There will be a promotion ceremony, taking place in the Lounge, in one hour. The attendance of all crew is requested. Captain Ja'arda, out."

After making the announcement, she focused her attention on Jake. He seemed to be staring off into space, almost quite literally. Ever since Valron and the Construct had become part of him, he had become, in some instances, more introverted - more distant from the other crew members.

"Jake, do you have a moment?" Zania wondered as she stood next to his table, hoping that he would allow her to speak with him.

Promotions

Postby trikejacob » Fri Apr 23, 2004 9:55 pm

Esign Spade heard the captain announce that there would be some kind of ceremony where they would give out promotions. Jake was excited for a moment before he realised that he probably wouldn't get one since he had only been on the Zealous for a very short time. But it would probably look good for him to be there.
It looked like everything on the Bridge was ok. There seemed to be enough officers stationed there. So he got up from his station and headed for his quaters where we would clean himself up for this ceremony. His shift was almost up anyway.

Captain Ja'arda nodded, and then sat down in the chair that the Chief Medical Officer had gestured to. "Jake, I wanted to apologize for earlier, in the briefing, when I discounted your plan," she began.

She looked out of the window into the depths of space as she continued, "Being a Captain of a starship is very hard. The responsibility is tremendous, both to the ship as well as to the crew. Sometimes, difficult decisions must be made, but we try everything possible not to put additional lives at risk if we can avoid it."

Turning her gaze back to Jake, there was almost a hint of sorrow within her eyes for not trusting him. "When you proposed your idea, I thought it was foolhearty. Despite my discouragement, you persisted in your argument, willing to put your life at risk at a time when the Tarmon Ay had proven that their intentions were not peaceful. Jake, you are an extremely vaulable member of this crew, and I didn't want to lose you, or your friendship. I don't know how, but you were able to succeed - perhaps not with peace, but at least with rescuing Vaskel and Luke."

She took a breath, almost steeling herself for what she was to say next. "You were right, Jake, and I was wrong. I'm sorry, and I hope that you can accept my apology," she stated almost remorsefully.

First Steps

Postby Lucasausems » Sun Apr 25, 2004 3:42 am

OCC- I've written this yesterday morning, I forgot to put it on the boards

IC:
Luke watched as the EMH retracted the hypospray.
'Had a nice rest after that stunt you pulled here a few hours ago?', An angry EMH stated. 'You're completely healed thanks to that crystal there'. She grabbed the crystal and put it on a nearby table.
'You're dismissed Ensign', and the Emergency Medical Hologram walked away.
Luke was a bit confused. He looked at his arms and hands. They were indeed...scarless. He looked at the crystal and wondered how something so small a thing could do something so....extraordinary.
He carefully sat up, afraid that it would hurt. Nothing. He felt, good. Normal.
He carefully placed his weight on his feet. Nothing.
He walked a few steps. Nothing. He was normal again... Or at least, he thought he was.
'Ensign Osswell could you please go already?!', the EMH said, 'You're fine'.
'Damn EMH', Luke thought. And he carefully walked out of sickbay. What should he do now? He couldn't just go to the bridge and resume his duties like nothing happened. Because a lot did, and it changed him forever. He used the walls of the corridor for balance. He really had no clue where he was going. It all seemed so long ago.

"Attention all crew. There will be a promotion ceremony, taking place in the Lounge, in one hour. The attendance of all crew is requested. Captain Ja'arda, out."

Promotion Ceremony? He didn't feel like attending. He needed rest, and sleep, lots and lots of sleep, but the captain wanted it, after all she decided to go after him and...Vaskel... Luke hated the Vulcan with all his being. The coward didn't even have the nerve to admit what he'd done. He had to discuss this with the captain about his betrayal.
It took a while, but after a few dead ends and wrong turns. He slowly walked into the Lounge. It was already packed with people. He saw Allen sitting next to Jake, and decided to have a chat with his fellow tactical officer. He walked up to him, and let out a heavy sigh after he sat besides him.
'Hi there Allen', Luke said with a tired voice.

Postby Jake Sjet » Sun Apr 25, 2004 10:39 am

"First off, Captain." Jake began, leaning back slightly into the chair as he allowed his thought to wander back into a more clearer reality "There is no need to apologise for your words or your clear meaning. You had to safe guard the crew and those who would be sent to the Tarmon Ay vessel as well. And secondly the operation was neither a success but a complete failure."

"A failure?" Azanialix asked, somewhat thrown off guard. She was greatly relieved that Jake understood why she had initially made the decision that she had, but that still didn't solve her puzzlement over his recent statement. "Why do you say that the operation was a complete failure?"

"The idea was to safe guard the return of Luke and Vaskel with as little blood shed as possible and to bring up a diplomatic dialogue with them." Sjet explained, "It failed. We were able to bring back a shell of a man known as Luke, and we very nearly destroyed their ship. Any hope of peace died with that act."

The Betazoid sighed somewhat. "Unfortunately, we had no control over what the Tarmon Ay did to Ensign Osswell while he was held captive by them. It will take time for him to heal, and there will be emotional and psychological scars as there would be from any trauma like what he endured, but those will also fade over time, and with the help and support of the crew," she explained.

In a way, she couldn't help but to feel a bit disappointed in him, not because the peace initiative didn't work, but because he seemed to blame the destruction of any hopes of peace on the Zealous. "As for the Tarmon Ay's wishes of peace, they never had that as their intention to begin with. I recently read a report from Vaskel on his experiences as their prisoner. He revealed their true desire to conquer the Alpha Quadrant.

We also did what we could to ensure that the Tarmon Ay ship would not be destroyed - only disabled."

"Still…there should be some form of peace in the galaxy some where. Just a small piece that doesn't war or bicker for power." He closed his eyes slowly "Paradise maybe?"
"Sounds like you would be right at home on Betazed," Captain Ja'arda giggled slightly. Betazoids were noted for their continued pursuit of peace, which is why some served as Counsellors aboard starships, or even as Ambassadors.

"Maybe," Sjet thought out loud "maybe so. I've been to very few alien worlds besides those in the Starfleet training programs. But Betazed sounds like a nice enough place…. though I think in my current condition I'd be more a natural disaster than a tourist." He said, remembering how he'd stunned the captain just by being angry.
How he'd hurt Ti'ana with this own feelings of grief, sorrow and rage.

"I wouldn't call you a natural disaster, Jake." Zania paused for a moment as a thoughtful look crossed her face. "If you'd like, the offer that I had made before still stands. If we can manage to find a way to control your transformations, as well as the essence of the Construct that resides within you, it could greatly benefit you."

"You cannot control chaos, " Jake opened his eyes, which took on a far off glaze "you cannot control the opposite. I am as death is to life. Light is to dark, something to nothing. I am the opposite to everything Starfleet has yet to find and all anyone can think of doing is allowing me control of such a force."
For a half second, a thought crossed his mind briefly. The captain was mad, foolish, she wanted to allow a weapon of untold power to be controlled by a single individual.
Madness.

Captain Ja'arda sighed, feeling as if she was hitting a brick wall. "Jake, you are one individual, yet you bear three distinct egos within your mind - yours, Valron's, and the Construct's. You have achieved harmony with the ego of Valron, but it is the ego of the Construct which is destructive."

She focused her gaze on him intensely as she continued, "All of the damage that you have caused on board the Zealous, all of the pain that has been inflicted upon others - it's all because of the Construct. It will continue to feed and grow off of anger and hatred until it becomes strong enough to destroy your ego and Valron. At that point, the Jake Sjet that we all know and love will cease to exist."

Taking a breath, she persisted, "I am actually surprised that you are so willing to allow this to continue, despite what has happened with Ti'ana, and with me, when the anger of the Construct has fueled your own."

Did you get my last post? AOL just froze on me, so I've lost the whole thing
“You’re brave Ms Ja’arda” Jake said slowly “That or a fool> I wish this plague to no one else, but allowing control of such a force to rest on one mans shoulders would doom us all. It destroyed a whole race, a simple temptation.”
He took a deep breath, calming himself “Imagine what would happen if by some fluke the Construct was able to gain total control through his procedure, their would be no place you could hide, you could never run fast enough.”

"Jake, I wouldn't have suggested it if I didn't believe in you, or your sense of judgement. Your will and conscience is strong enough to avoid the temptation of power," she reassured him. "If the Construct were to take over, then we would do what we could to find a way to bring you back. You are important to us, all of us."

“Now you are lying Zania,” Jake said, leaning forward and motioning a hand about the room, but keeping his voice level and control so few would hear “look at them, sense there fear at being near me Zania, sense the anger they hold at know what I have done to so many. There fear is intoxicating to me, it fuels the Construct. Their fear will bring about their undoing.”

"Betazoids don't lie," Azanialix reminded him. "Do you honestly believe that everyone fears you? Jake, if that were the case, they wouldn't even want you in the Lounge right now. They wouldn't want you present during the promotion ceremony. I think the Construct is blinding you to the truth, so you only see the negative and not how some things really are."

“Maybe because I have seen the truth Zania, maybe it is because I have seen horrors that in your most fevered nightmares you would only glimpse at, things that would drive you mad to think of them.” He paused “I….I apologise, I am in no position to say such things….I’m sorry…”

"Truth is influenced on an individual's point of view. Eliminate the individual experience, and you have nothing more than the pure truth. In your case, you have three individual minds to contend with. One, however, seems to be growing stronger within you, and I fear what will happen to you, and to the crew, if it is left unchecked," Captain Ja'arda pointed out.

She turned her gaze out of the window for a moment, and then focused on Jake once again. "A possible solution has been presented to you, Jake, but it is up to you if you wish to accept it. I know that you will make the right choice, but I hope that your decision will come before the Construct makes you hurt or kill your friends or someone you love."

“I thought you knew Zania, there is no choice. You’ve made the decision well before the choice was ever offered. Fate, destiny. It guides us and allows us to thrive.” He explained.

"It's quite alright. I know this is rather short notice, but I was wondering if you might be able to arrange something for an impromptu promotion ceremony about an hour from now. Since we do not have any Admirals on board, it would not be formal, so there would be no need for a full spread of food. Vin'Ti, I'm sure, would be able to put together some appetizers, and you would have the replicators at your disposal for anything else. Do you think you would be able to handle this?"

Quamada was shocked. Part of her mind was still stuck on the way the Captain treated Tsorinn's prescence in the Lounge like it was no big deal. The rest was stuck on the short time she had to prepare. "I believe so, Captain," Quamada found herself responding. After all, she could modify some of the plans she had already made, for food and drinks.

"Wonderful! If you need to ask any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be right over there, speaking with Commander Sjet," the Betazoid indicated.

Quamada nodded, and as the Captain turned to speak with Sjet she hurried to the kitchen, explaining the situation to Vin'Ti. The cook took it all in stride, and soon Quamada found herself stirring five pots while Vin'Ti bustled about the rest of the kitchen. The girl found herself exceedingly grateful that she had two tenders at the bar and getting orders for drinks.

"Jalovel," Murdock parroted, allowing the name to roll on his tongue. A quirky grin crossed his lips as he commented, "You know, that fits you."

She looked a bit confused, but her dark eyes seemed to sparkle from the light provided by the stars beyond the window. Now, he fully understood why he was captivated by her, and couldn't stop thinking about her since they had been on that shuttle.

"It's a beautiful name for a beautiful woman," the Texan clarified, meaning every word of it. It seemed as if she was starting to open up to him and he hoped that, by saying that, those words wouldn't make her retreat back into her shell of shyness.

Hoping to keep her talking, he decided to ask, "What made you decide to become a medical officer?"

Ensign Spade had just finished cleaning and dressing himself up for the ceremony. He left his quaters and soon was in the lounge. He quickly found a seat to himself feeling a bit awkward trying to find a place.
As soon as he sat down he began thinking about promotions. It would be so cool if he actually got a promotion. But he forced himself not to think such thoughts. They would only raise his hopes and then he'd be dissapointed when he didn't get one.
Instead he thought about his eyes. He convinced himself he was doing the right thing by seeing a doctor about his eye problem. He wouldn't be able to see the doctor tonight because of the ceremony. But tommorrow he would.

Captain Ja'arda couldn't help but to feel somewhat guilty. She was only trying to help, and had the best interests of the crew in mind. How long could they go on, living with the fear that the Construct would dominate Jake Sjet, and reign terror, havoc, and destruction on them all?

How long could they continue as they have before the Construct finally takes the life of a crew member? How would Jake react to that once he was returned to normal and learned the truth of what he had done? From what she remembered of the experience within his mind, he had been very depressed after that one instance from his past - if the Construct made Jake kill one of his friends, especially close ones like Alex, Murdock, or Ti'ana, he would never be able to forgive himself. It would likely send him into an endless spiral of depression that wouldn't end until he took his own life.

"You're wrong, Jake. The decision is not mine to make. It is yours, and yours alone - it always has been, and it always will be. You have the power to control your own future. We may make recommendations to help guide your path, but it is up to you if you want to accept that advice from your friends," Azanialix explained.

She thought that she knew him, and thought that they had forged a friendship after the incident where she had to, with Vaskel's help, enter his mind. Apparently, as much as it pained her to even consider it, it may not have been the case. Jake had become one of her most trusted officers, and yet he didn't trust her in return.

The hurt was clear within her eyes as she stood from the table. "We only want to help you, Jake. I wish that you could understand that, but apparently we aren't friends as I had thought," she informed him, the disappointment clear within her tone.

As she turned to walk away, she immediately noticed that Melissa and the other counselor were looking in her direction. Could they tell that something was wrong? Zania's eyes were moist as she fought back tears. Taking a breath, she moved away from Jake's table, feeling as if she was abandoning a friendship - yet Jake was leaving her no other choice.

She had to try and recompose herself. She had promotions she had to hand out . . .

Murdock smiled at her, remembering his own dedication to wanting to make a difference, helping others in need. It sounded like they had something in common. Plus, it seemed as if it was working . . . she was starting to open up, and talk to him a bit more. Maybe she was getting over her shyness, or at least just with him.

"Helping others is always a noble cause, and it makes you feel good inside when you do it," he mused.

He listened as she asked him how he chose the Zealous. Well, in a certain way, he didn't choose the Zealous . . . it kind of ran across him at an opportune time. He was about to explan when he heard the Captain begin to make her announcements about crew members being promoted.

"I'll tell you after the promotions. Who do you think is gonna get a higher rank?" he wondered.

Who Sent the Message?

Postby Taneth » Fri Apr 30, 2004 10:17 am

Taneth finished his work in engineering and headed for the lounge, where the captian would be. On the way, he stopped by Kelly Larson's quaters. "I see you're settled in." He said when she let him in.
"Yeah," she replied, "it's good to be home. Still, nothing beats the old NDV class."
Taneth shook his head, "Deep space plasma guzzlers, not very energy effecient."
"Still, they were sleek and fast. I understand there's still one in service."
"Ever heard of the Dominion?"
"Oh my, it wasn't destroyed was it?" Kelly looked very disappointed. "There goes a great classic. But you didn't come here to talk about old times, eh kid?"
Taneth gave an intrigued look "No, and please don't call me that. I find it very surprising for a human to be older than an El'Aurian, but I'd expect a more sophisticated personality."
"Anyway" Kelly said, indicating to a chair, in which Taneth took a seat.
"Anyway." Kelly sat down opposite as he spoke. "The captain will no doubt be wanting to know about these star crystals. How much do you know about them?"
"Uh, just about everything. My top priority has been to find the Golden Gauntlet, the crystal attached to it is designed to repair, refuel, and maintain all the others."
"Do you know where it is?"
"No, but my theory is that it's on the original Cytherian homeworld, inside Tarmon Ay space."
Remembering the mysterious message, he decided to prompt her "What about the Crystal of Location?"
"I definately know where that is." Not the response he was hoping for. "On display in the musium of Felonian Heratage. I got killed both times I tried to retrieve it. If I go in there again, I fear they'll catch on and make sure there's nothing left."
"What does it do?" Taneth asked.
"It's the only Star Crystal to have multiple componants. A network of sensors that make up a gigantic phased brain. It can tell you the location of anything, spanning the entire galaxy, you just have to know what you're looking for."
"You said the Golden Gauntlet recharges the crystals, how?"
"Not the Gauntlet itself. The Crystal of The Golden Gauntlet has a unique power source. The legend says the power system is technology stolen from the Q, but it was so complicated and delicate it couldn't be reproduced."
"This guy actually stole technology from the Q?"
"So the legend says. I think that bit has been exadgerated"
"Well, thank you for this information, and now I have to speak to the captain." Taneth said as he got up to leave.
Kelly stopped him at the door "If you're going after any of them, I need to come with you. I'm the expert."
"I'll see what I can do" he assured her, and left.
On the wall console nearby, the words #Netta neturu# appeared, flashed a few times, and disappeared. Taneth regognised the words. It was his native language. It meant 'Question everything', and was in the same style as the message he'd recieved in engineering earlier. Taneth continued to the lounge.

Now that the promotions had been handed out, Captain Ja'arda tried to relax and enjoy the company of her crew. Unfortunately, the issue with Jake Sjet occupied her mind. She couldn't believe that he was so willing to throw out their friendship, despite the fact that it had been strongly forged by the events that had taken place within Jake's mind. That pained her in a way that he probably would never be able to understand.

For a moment, she considered asking to speak with her Chief of Operations in private, and perhaps even Murdock and Alex Ducane, just to get their impressions on what was going on with Jake. He was definitely changing and, as his closest friends, perhaps they also observed this.

Murdock was currently talking to Amina Jalovel, so she didn't want to interrupt. Jake was with Ti'ana, who had just been promoted. Alex didn't seem to be speaking with anyone, so the Captain considered perhaps talking to him first. She also spotted Kyo McCloud, wandering around on his own, not really talking to anyone.

Before she could make her way over to Alex, she spotted Taneth. Unfortunately, the issue with Jake Sjet would have to wait. For now, she hoped to find out more about these Star Crystals, which had surfaced during the last mission. Even Admiral Granger agreed that they needed to be found, especially if they posed any kind of threat to the Federation.

Walking over to the El-Aurian, Captain Ja'arda asked, "Taneth, do you have a moment to talk about those Star Crystals?"

"I figured you'd want to ask about that, so I had a chat with the real Kelly Larson earlier." Taneth said. "Is there something specific you want to know?"

The Betazoid nodded. "Do you know exactly how many of these crystals exist? Or what types of powers each one potentially possesses?" she inquired.

Taneth thought for a moment. "There are several that I know of." he said. "Youth, Image, Healing and Refraction we have. The one for telepathy is with the Tarmon Ay. Speed, Vision and Location are the others, but I'm sure there are more, the legend speaks of at least twenty."

He gestured to his arm "There is.. a device" he continued, "which repairs, maintains, and recharges all the crystals when they are connected to it. It's called the Golden Gauntlet."

"Due to the powers of the crystals, Starfleet considers making the search for them a priority, and has assigned us to handle that task," Azanialix noted. "Should our search start with the Golden Gauntlet? Do you have any indication as to where we might be able to find it?"

Taneth nodded. "Kelly seems to think it's on the original Cytherian homeworld, where the maker of the crystals resided, which is now inside Tarmon Ay space. But I think our first priority is to find the Crystal of Location. It can tell us where the others are, and we know where it is."

Inside Tarmon Ay space? That was very distressing considering the last encounter with that species. They had barely managed to disable a single Tarmon Ay ship, but to go to the homeworld? That would almost be suicide.

Still, this Crystal of Location had to be found, especially before it could fall into the wrong hands. There was one question that still had to be asked, however, regarding the location. "Are the Tarmon Ay aware that the Crystal is on their planet? Also, do you have any thoughts on how we can approach their homeworld without being detected?"

OK, so whoever sent those mysterious messages, it wasn't the captain either. Either it was someone he hadn't considered, or someone is still hiding. And hiding well. He figured he might as well finish the conversation. "They probably know now that the Gauntlet is there, and we can probably get there undetected by giving enough power to the refractor. But all it is really is a recharger. Perhaps the Cytherians can help, but their new homeworld is very far away." Good, turn her away from that one. "The Crystal of Location is in the museum of Felonian Heritage. Do you know of that species?" Taneth asked.

Felonians? That was a species the Captain had not heard of before. "I'm familiar with the Caitians, but I have not heard of the Felonians until just now," she noted.

"I'm not surprised" Taneth said "It's a secluded part of space. They're cats, basically the Klingons of their sector, I don't think they'll allow us to just walk into their museum and take a bright yellow crystal from display."

Azanialix pondered the situation. They had to get this crystal in order to locate the others. Then, a possible solution came to her. "Lieutenant Gine, in Engineering, is a Changeling. Perhaps, after a bit of observation, she might be able to shift her form to appear like a Felonian. That could give her access to where the crystal is, with minimal risk," she suggested.

If the Felonians were as Taneth had noted, avoiding a confrontation was probably best. She still hadn't received a full report on any damages to the Zealous, and wanted to minimize the risk at all possible, especially since they probably would not stop at a Starbase for repairs.

"I hadn't considered that." Taneth said. "The Crystal of Image is dead now, and that's what Kelly used before and failed. Best have Refraction as backup, that can act as a cloaking device"

The Zealous had its own cloaking device, even though it was top secret, and only she and Commander Dillard knew of its existence. Unfortunately, in this situation, they would have no choice but to employ it. "Sounds like our priorities are clear - first, recover the Crystal of Location, and then the Golden Gauntlet. Taneth, if you could provide exact coordinates, I'll contact Commander Dillard on the Bridge and have him set course."

Taneth nodded. "Their homeworld is at G7 in the Dandori sector, the computer can translate the coordinates from El'Aurian easily enough, I built it into the system." He didn't really like to brag about his work, but the navigation system standard to Starfleet these days was still based on his design from centuries ago. "Kelly should have the exact coordinates, you should ask her first."

Captain Ja'arda tapped her Combadge and said, "Captain Ja'arda to Commander Dillard."

"Dillard here," came the response.

"Set course to G7 in the Dandori sector, Warp 6," she requested.

"Yes sir," he replied.

"I'd like to speak with Kelly regarding the other planet that we need to visit, to see what she knows about that," Zania told Taneth.

"Her quarters are the same as the impostor's, I figured some of her possessions might already be there," Taneth said. "I should warn you, she's a bit unstable after all that time as a prisoner on that ship."

Captain Ja'arda looked toward the door for the Lounge and then back to Taneth. "Perhaps this will be better if you accompany me. Do you have time to do so?"

Taneth nodded, and together they left the celebration behind in order to set to work on the new mission for the Zealous.
