Current Log Thread

Postby Zania Jaarda » Fri Apr 02, 2004 4:06 pm

Again, there was a report that a log was sent to the mailstring and did not go through.

Just to be on the safe side, I would like everyone to post their logs both to the mailstring, as well as to this thread, for at least one week. This is mandatory, just to make sure that there are no problems.

After a week, if there are no further reports of missing logs, then I will release the mandatory status and we should be back to normal!

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in this matter!

Getting Settled

Lorena entered her quarters and looked around. It was two rooms - a
combination living room/bedroom and bathroom. the combo had a couch, table,
chair, dresser, closet and bed. There was a computer on the table.
Lorena put the birdcage on the table. She put birdseed on the floor of the
cage and water in the dish. The birds were chirpinq to each other. It seemed
to her that the birds were admiring the room. Then they turned towards her,
flapping their wings slightly.
George tilted his head to the side as if to say, "When will you let us out?
We've been cooped up in here for two hours!"
Lorena laughed softly and said, "I'm sorry but I'm not allowed to let you out
in my quarters. It's unsanitary. I promise I'll let you out in the holodeck
later, okay?"
George chirped as in agreement and went back to talking to his mate.
Lorena smiled at the antics of her pets and resumed unpacking.
She took a framed picture of her and her brother out of her suitcase and hung
it on the wall. She admired it, remembering when the picture had been taken.
They had been vacationing on Risa. They had spent the day mountain climbing.
The picture had been taken by a fellow tourist when they had reached the top of
the mountain. The mountain had been difficult to climb and it showed on their
faces that they were proud at having done it. Lorena smiled. The picture was a
year old. Conner was now married and stationed on Starbase 24. She made a
mental note to herself to give him a call when she had the time.
She went back to unpacking and started taking her clothes out of the suitcase.
She hung her uniforms in the closet and put everything else in the dresser. She
looked around the room. Spotless. Satisfied, Lorena left for sickbay to report
in to the CMO.

Azanialix Ja'arda listened as Ensign Richards suggested that her talents could probably be better utilized in other areas of the ship. She didn't want to send Melissa to deal with the Tarmon Ay in the Shuttlebay, as that was still a potentially volitile situation. Plus, Ensign Tylor from the Intelligence Department was on the Bridge, along with the recently rescued Lieutenant Vaskel, and could always assist when it came to the Tarmon Ay.

"I believe that Sickbay would be the better option. Some may go there in search of crisis counseling, in addition for treatment to their injuries. There will also be a need to debrief the away team who had been on the Tarmon Ay ship," Captain Ja'arda replied. "Thank you for your assistance, Counselor. You did a very good job."

The blond Betazoid nodded, and then got up to exit the Bridge. Shortly after that, Lt. Aynia officially requested asylum. As the Captain of a Federation vessel, it was within her powers to grant such a request, if it was made of her.

Aynia proved herself by willingly offering information that would help with the situation in the Shuttlebay, but also on how to penetrate the Tarmon Ay shields. She hadn't expected the Tarmon Ay officer to do that, but it just went to show that she was willing to help defend the Federation from her own kind.

N'vrix looked at Zania, almost as if looking for guidance. "Go ahead, Lieutenant N'vrix. Flood the ship with Gamma Radiation Emissions, at a particle density of 2.4, for approximately five minutes. Establish radiation protocals on every deck to protect our crew. For those not protected, coordinate with Medical personnel to arrange for treatment," she ordered.

Just then, the Boeraux started to move into an attack position. Azanialix could have sworn that she felt her heart skip a beat the moment those words were uttered. The Tarmon Ay were, indeed, powerful, but the Zealous now had a better chance of surviving this conflict, thanks to the frequency provided by Lt. Aynia, as well as the refractive shields developed by Lt. Taneth.

"Permission granted. Target the torpedo for the spot that would disable the Boeraux. We don't want to destroy them. Fire when we are within range," Captain Ja'arda ordered, hoping that this would work. The way it sounded, they would only get one shot to try and do this, so they had to make it count!

Blind as a bat

Postby trikejacob » Sat Apr 03, 2004 10:45 pm

Ensign Spade was sitting at a console in the back of the Bridge. Before, he had been at a tacticle console, but then Vaskel had come in. He didn't feel it necessary to have three people at tacticle, considering the other two were experienced. So he moved to an empty console. Being an Operations officer, he was to be able to do a variety of jobs aboard a ship. From this console he could do many things for the ship and crew.

Then it happened.

Everything went black.
'Oh God no!' thought Jake. With all the excitement going on he had completely forgotten about his eye problem. He never bothered to worry about them.
Untill now. He was blind and could not see a thing!
'Please let this be a short one! Please!'
He hoped nothing would happen. He hoped noone would notice.
He was completely blind and could not do a thing for them.
Maybe this would only last 30 seconds.
Maybe.

Tag: Nobody. Somebody could maybe notice something about Ensign Spade. But I don't want any characters tho actually know about his problem yet.

Immediatly after the shuttle touched down on the shuttle bay, Daniel and the others went out and did their respective duties, Daniel went out and immediately saw the commotion on the side and saw the security personnel, He immediately drew his phaser and ran towards the group.

The lanky Texan couldn't help but to notice the medical officer's reaction to him. Yup, it definitely confirmed it . . . she was as shy as a sapphire, but a darned beautiful one at that. He managed to get her to grin back at him, but only for a moment before she turned away again and told him about his foot.

"At least it ain't serious," Murdock noted, still trying to give the whole situation a positive outlook.

For a moment, without saying a word, he watched as she diligently worked on his ankle. Her touch was gentle, almost timid, as if a reflection of her shyness . . . her unwillingness to open up to others that she didn't know very well. Despite this, he was amazed by the level of medical treatment that he was getting.

Deciding to break the silence between them, Murdock began, "Hey, I just wanted to apologize for what happened back there on the shuttle, before we left on the mission. You kinda looked nervous and, well, I just wanted to calm you down. I've seen greenhorns, new to everythin', go on missions before, choke up at critical time, and end up gettin' killed. I didn't want to see that happenin' with you."

Sickbay

Being at red alert, the ship was scanned every few milliseconds for problems that may have arisen. During one such scan, the computer noted that Ensign Allen Chi's lifesigns had declined rapidly. Immediately, the EMH program was activated beside Allen in the corridor. Jennifer, the EMH, appeared and crouched down over his prone form.

"EMH to transporters, I need an emergency site-to-site transport to sickbay."

She was answered by a brief shimmer as the sickbay seemed to materialize around them. She turned over to Allen who had been beamed straight on to a biobed.

Trying to concentrated when someone was talking to you was difficult. Trying to concentrate when a handsome man was talking to you was almost impossible. Jalovel listened to the man, and wondered why he should be having this effect on her. She'd seen him a few times before and not thought anything about it. But now, here in sickbay, things had changed.

"Thank you," Jalovel's words were spoken in barely a whisper, but she knew it was loud enough for him to hear. "It means a lot to know that someone cares." What she didn't add was that it meant a lot to know that he cared. She would never say anything like that out loud though. After all, he was probably just being nice to her. Most likely he was this nice to everyone on the ship.

'Jalovel,' she said to herself, 'you’re a fool if you think it's anything more than that.' The young Bajoran worked quietly with the dermal regenerator, carefully healing most of the damaged muscle and tendons. It would still be sore when he walked on it, but at least he'd be able to walk on.

"Let me know if it gives you any problems," Jalovel put his foot down gently and stood, looking at him, unsure of what to say or do next.

(ooc - looks like Vaskel didn't have the only e-mail that was eaten by mailstring. It looks like mine was as well!)

Before Azanialix Ja'arda could give the order to fire on the Boeraux, they received an urgent message from the Shuttlebay. Two crew members were still in there, and already suffering from severe radiation poisoning. "Standby, Ensign. It's a preventative measure to counteract the explosives you mentioned in your previous message. Radiation protocals are in effect, and all crew members will recieve treatment."

Turning her attention to the viewscreen, and the ominous image of the Boeraux, the Betazoid Captain announced, "Make sure the refractive shields are at full strength. Lt. Aynia, we will need your assistance with this one. Target their Engineering section. We want to disable their propulsion and weapons systems."

She paused for a moment, just to try and allow for Ensign James to close in the difference, and then gave the order. "Fire!"

The Captain waited, but no torpedo had been launched from the Zealous. She turned around to try and see what was going on at Tactical. Ensign Lenario was gone, and Ensign Spade was there along with Lt. Aynia. Spade, however, seemed motionless.

"Ensign Spade, I gave an order to fire," Captain Ja'arda clarified.

He didn't answer. In fact, the expression on his face suggested that he was worried, even fearful of something. Was he so afraid of the Tarmon Ay, and what would happen if the torpedo, that he was unwilling to follow orders? Or could it be something else? The radiation burst aboard the ship, perhaps?

After what seemed like eternity, Ensign Spade uttered, "I can't see."

That news was indeed alarming. Could an object of the Tarmon Ay have blinded him, or was it due to something else? Either way, they couldn't just sit there. If they did, it was likely that the Zealous would be destroyed.

"Lt. Vaskel, work with Lt. Aynia on Tactical and open fire on the Boeraux," Zania ordered. She then turned to Lt. Stanton and requested, "Escort Ensign Spade to Sickbay. Have one of the Medical officers examine his eyes."

Turning back to the viewscreen, Captain Ja'arda watched as a glowing red torpedo streaked into space, heading straight for the Tarmon Ay warbird. Her eyes followed it anxiously, inwardly praying that it would hit its mark . . .

Hearing that it meant a lot to her to know that someone cares, Murdock grinned, "Hey, we're all in this together, so we gotta look out for each other."

He meant that earnestly. They had to look beyond them being a group, a crew, and look out for the individuals who comprised it. If they didn't, then they couldn't function well as a team when the time came.

Besides, the medical officer was still very shy. It was rather endearing, and made her very mysterious. Mysteries, though, always seemed to have a solution. In this case, it was getting to know the officer, and trying to find a way to get her to open up, and be a bit more outgoing.

She finished up with his ankle and told him to let her know if he had any more problems with it. "Thanks," the Texan said, sliding off the biobed to stand on the floor once more. Again, there seemed to be an uneasy moment between the two of them until Murdock broke the silence by suggesting, "Hey, when all of this is done, you wanna go get a drink in the lounge or something? You kinda look like you could use a friend around here."

Darkness...
That was all Ensign Spade could see.
He could see nothing except darkness.
"Ensign Spade, I gave an order to fire!" That was the captain's voice.
'Oh no' he thought. He had been sitting at a console and even though he could not see he had been motioning his hands across the console acting like he was doing something so that nobody would become suspicious. And when the captain gave the order to fire he had nothing since he couldn't see. But apparently Lenario had left. So the only person on the Bridge who was supposed to carry out that order was him.
After a long moment, "I can't... see." he finally said in a defeated voice. Now everyone would know. His career was over.
Then the captain ordered Lt. Staton to take him to sick bay.
Just then...
The blackness went away. He could see again!
But his euphoria was soon gone. 'Great' he thought,'Perfect timing.'
"Thanks" he said to Lt. Staton, "But I'm fine now."
And then he left for sickbay on his own.

Sickbay

She [Melissa] ran through sickbay towards where Chi was. "Oh god..Allen.." she bent down.."Allen, are you okay?" She looked around.."I need a medical person here. Now??"

As there was no medical personnel currently available, the EMH Jennifer was automatically activated.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency." declared the hologram. She then looked down and saw Allen's prostate form and immediately sprang in to motion administering a hypospray to bring his blood pressure back up to the norm. Allen opened his eyes groggily and moaned before laying his head back on the biobed.

"What?" he managed to moan.

"You are in a state of shock, I've administered medication, your condition should stabalize in the next few hours. Until then I'd like to keep you monitored in sickbay." said Jennifer, matter of factly.

In a croaking voice, Allen said "I think I'm okay... I'll be in my quarters."

Before Allen could fully finish his sentence, he was pushed back down in to the bed and then firmly told not to move. Allen complied this time, too tired to argue.

Ensign Spade entered Sickbay just a few minutes after he had been told to leave the Bridge. As soon as he came in he noticed how crowded it was. Patients and doctors were moving back and forth everywhere.
"Perhaps the isn't the best time," Jake said to himself. These people needed treatment before him. 'After all, aside from the fact that I go blind for a little while every so often, I'm perfectly healthy,' he thought sarcastically to himself.
Jake wanted so bad to be a part of the team. To prove himself and help out. But this damn blindness ruined everything! Always!
Maybe he'd come back later.
He then turned to leave.

Sickbay

OOC: Well... my idea for a two part post got blown. Ah well, i'll save that idea for next time I visit the sick bay :)

IC:

The place was now getting crowded. She smiled at Allen
and then moved away. "You're going to be fine.
I'll...see you later.." She turned away and went back
over to Lorena..

Allen smiled inwardly at the sound of Melissa's voice. He sighed and let his head sink in to the biobed and as the drugs took hold of him, he descended in to his subconcious, in to the realm of dreams and nightmares.

"Allen..... Allen!"

Allen's eyes suddenly shot open. His surroundings were familiar, but not that of a Starfleet ship. He was home. Allen craned his neck searching for the source of the voice but found none. He got up off his bed and walked out the door and down the short flight of stairs.

Something was wrong.

He couldn't quite place it, but something was definitely amiss. All of a sudden, people appeared around him, yet it felt as if it was natural for people to suddenly appear. Wasn't it? There was no alarm, but a calm acceptance and smooth transition in to a totally different scene. Allen felt a sense of euphoria.

Wait... thought Allen, there was no colour? He was colourblind. Again, the people disappeared this time, but without any awkwardity. Allen began to feel pain in his abdomen. He clutched his stomach as he fell to his knees and like the people, the pain was gone. Rising back to his feet, he felt a cold shiver pass through him, the cold feeling of fear.

Then, his home began fading, in to what Allen did not know. All he knew was that the house was no longer the house, and that it was something that he did not know, and that, he feared.

The unknown... it scared him. It scared him so deeply that he felt paralyzed. He felt the ominous blackness around him. The thick uncertainty that saturated the air that he breathed. The fear overwhelmed him, drowning him, he gasped, clutching at his chest and felt bogged down by the weight of his life. He realized that it wasn't just that... he was choking himself. The cause of his fear was himself. Allen experienced an epiphany, but still unaware of the depth to which that experience would affect him.

Allen felt the pressure of his problems slowly drain from him, and he took a deep breath. The sweetness of the air reminded him of some faraway scent... one from so long ago, a memory once thought lost.

Beeping.
Undiscernable voices, all run together like a skipping gramophone.
Pain.

"...internal hemmoraging in the lungs and chest cavity."
"...operating, but we need more time..."
"... drain it, there's too much pressure on his lungs..."
"...he's drowning. We need to do it now..."
"...we've lost him."

Lost who?
Someone was in trouble, but try as he might, Allen couldn't seem to open his eyes. Then it dawned on him that his eyes were already open, staring in to the ceiling.

"Wait! Neural activity is increasing again, try the defribillator again!"

Allen felt himself get shoved in to the bed again. He tried to moan, but he couldn't draw breath.

"Again!"

Once again, he was shoved in to the bed. He tried to cough, but only a sick sputtering.

"Clear the airway. We need to relieve the pressure again."

Now Allen felt the once unnoticeable pain rush in to his peripheral conciousness. He noticed a tube leading out from his ribs draining a red liquid. He tried to cough again, this time, he was successful, but blood still spattered out from his mouth.

"He's stabalizing... I'll get Jennifer to finish him up."

The EMH hovered over Allen again and finished sealing up the wounds and made a blood transfusion and moved Allen aside for recovery.

Luke began to feel better, a feeling he had forgot what it felt like. It felt heavenly. Strange, a man can feel fine all his life in total ignorance of how lucky he is.
How lucky we all are, but him. How many people had to endure what he went through? How many people are able to find there lost loved one, only to loose them again less than a day later? And how many people actually see them shot down by someone they trust!?
Vaskel....
Blood boiling up inside him at the thought of that man...No, not a man, a murderer
He tried to raise his arm, and by some miracle he succeeded. That's when he saw his arm, full of scars, and instead of being pinkbrownish, it was white, blue and purplelike. His nails, weren't even there, or at least half there, totally torn apart.
What had he become?
A monster.....
A freak..
An outsider...

The Sickbay was really busy for the moment so Ensign Spade decided to leave and maybe come back later. He was in a real lousy mood.
He was just wandering aimlessly through the corridors of the ship when he suddenly noticed he had arrived at the Crew Lounge.
'Perfect' he thought to himself. Having a drink and relaxing sounded like a real good idea. He walked up the bar noticing someone new was on the other side.
"Can I get a drink?" he asked.

Feeling the heat rising in her cheeks, Jalovel thought about the best way to answer Murdock's question without being rude. She honestly didn't have any reason not to accept his invitation. And the idea of getting to know Murdock a little better, well, it was starting to appeal to her. Murdock, however, was waiting for an answer, and smiling at her in such a charming fashion. She couldn't think clearly when he was smiling at her like that!

"I think that would be a great idea," Jalovel replied before she had time to stop herself. She was certain she was blushing as bright as a neon sign about now and was beginning to wish she hadn't opened her big mouth. It was too late to take it back now, she'd just have to deal with it. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Murdock was kind of cute, in his own way.

Quamada stood on one leg, the other bent so her left foot hooked around her right foot. She was barefooted, in a simple white long-sleeved shirt and brown pants, with her long golden hair down, flowing over her hunched shoulders. Hunched, because her chin was cupped in her right hand, with her right elbow resting on the counter and her left forearm likewise. She was working on the plan for tomorrow night, working out the last minute details.
It had been one moon, almost to the day, since she had arrived on this strange ship. She had been able to blend in fairly well, and was certain no one guessed that she was other than human. Not that it really mattered..... it was just..... Earsa, her teacher, would be proud. She had awlways had trouble keeping secrets- she found she had the best luck when she simply said nothing of the matter and let others assume as they would. So she let people assume that she was a native of an inhabited low-tech world nearby where she had been found and had since hitched a ride, finding work about three weeks ago managing 'the Lounge'.
She hoped the people dwelling on this metal ship flying through the blackness between stars liked this celebration she was planning. Things were tense, she knew, although she didn't understand quite why. She was still trying to fully comprehend the idea of traveling between stars as one would travel between islands. These people also had different customs than her own, and she had an inkling that celebrating life, for no additional reason, was a concept strange to them. She tried to arrange the music and dance and food such that it was meaningful to them, and so they had a good time and could relax and laugh.
It was getting better the more she understood them and the more they understood her. The short maid had been going nearly nonstop, talking to various persons when they weren't busy, doing her best to understand them. The biggest gap was the technology, and she feared it would never fully be bridged. Her own people still had no guns- not that she would wish to change it. So she tried to look past the differences and simply see them as people, and invest much time to gain their trust and make them laugh, to be friends.
Her thoughts were halted as someone she didn't recognize came into the Lounge, looking around. Ensign Jake Spade walked up to the bar as Quamada straightened up with an engaging smile.
"Can I get a drink?" he asked.
"Certainly," she returned. "What would you like?"
Upon hearing the answer, she made the drink for him. She knew that it disconcerted many, how she did her best not to use the replicator, but frankly, it unnerved her. She didn't understand how it worked, and she feared breaking it, or making a huge mess, so she avoided it. She had brought with her a lot of supplies from home, and could mix a lot of the drinks the crew ordered- or at least drinks similar.... She had noted how human drinks were a lot easier for her to make and there were greater chances that she had the ingredients neccessary, rather than drinks of other races. Still, she was thankful that she was able to make a lot of those, too.
The drink ready, she handed it to him with another smile. Her sapphire blue eyes went to the door and back to him. "Are things quieting down at all?" Quamada inquired.

Jake could feel his body trying to absorb the massive amount of radiation it had endured, the nano bots within him slowly charging with the half-life of the fallen isotopes eating into his skin.
A deadly energy turned into useful energy, wonder if the Tarmon Ay understand irony. Then again they didn’t seem to understand humour to good so irony seemed a long shot at the best. He slowly turned his head and looked down at Ti’ana, her sweat soaked brow shining softly in the shuttle bays overhead lighting and her eyes softly turning a rosy colour as they became blood shot.
“Ti’ana.” He whispered softly, as though fearing he’d wake her from a dream.
“Huum…” she mumbled.
“You have to stay awake.” For me, he wanted to add. He watched the light in her eyes begin to ebb, like a dieing ember caught in a monsoon. His heart leapt; fear crushing its throat and muting his call.
“Okay?” his voice held but the slightest of warbling sadness.
“Can’t any more Jake…Too tired…” her eyes began to flutter, her limbs becoming uncoordinated and slowly Jake allowed her to fall to floor. He slowly allowed her head to rest on the durasteel deck plate and then softly he brushed two fingers against her neck, allowing a jittery pulse to scream out in agony.
“Ti’ana, “ he said, fixing a smile upon his face “you gotta stay awake…”
“Go away…” her voice sounded far off and distant, and gaining distance all the time.
“You’ll miss out on the ceremony.” He blurted, trying to keeper her distracted “Yeah big ceremony…their all going to be here Ti’ana…”
Her eyes seemed to focus for a moment, fixing themselves onto someone behind Jake’s shoulder, and looking around their stood Joy Robinson.
“Joy,” he said not bothering to hide the fear and concern from his voice, he no longer cared for the secrecy “get me a med pack stat, and get Alex down here with a medical emergency gurney and all the Racalin hypo’s he can muster.”
He didn’t wait for her reply., it didn’t matter.
“Please Ti’ana…don’t go…” he begged softly.
I need you, he thought, when I look at you I see peace, and when I look into your eyes I feel like I’ve found my way home….I don’t want that to go away. Please don’t leave me alone on a darkened ledge of madness.
I don’t want to lose the best part of me.
I don’t want to lose my compassion.
My humanity.
“Tired...” she said, feebly raising a hand “to tired.”
Jake clasped her hand, squeezing it gently “Its okay Ti’ana, helps on the way you just gotta stay awake for a few more minutes….” He looked again over his shoulder, searching with eyes brimming with a pleading cry “Help! I need a frackin med kit here now!”
And so he sat their, knelling beside Ti’ana holding onto her hand as though she were falling beneath a cruel sea and that if Jake let go he was drowning her, committing murder in some way…
“Hang on Ti’ana…” a silvery tear twinkled like a distant star upon his cheek, falling from grace glittering until it splashed upon the clean deck of the Zealous immediately evaporating like a memory “Just hold on…”
He would never let go.
Of Ti’ana.
Of hope.

Lounge

Postby trikejacob » Sun Apr 11, 2004 2:59 pm

Jake told the new Lounge Manager what he wanted and then watched her make it. It was strange the way she didn't use the replicator. But I guess anybody could tell a replicator what they wanted. Their would be no point in having someone whose job was to tell the replicator what you wanted instead of you doing it yourself.
In a minute she was done and handed him his drink. "Thanks," he said smiling a little at her as he took a slow, quenching sip. 'Boy that felt good'
She asked if things were quieting down at all. "I think so. Yes" he replied. Of course he wouldn't know because he was ordered to leave the Bridge while they were in the middle of a mission.
Before he realised it, he was done with his drink. He smirked a little, "Can I get another one of these?" he asked, "If thats all right."
After this next drink he head back to the Sickbay. 'Curse these eyes!' he thought. It was because of his eye problem that his career in Starfleet might already be over. Then he noticed the woman behind the bar was still there and composed himself a little. She might have noticed the troubled look on his face. But maybe talking to someone was what he needed.

Quamada watched Jake as he drank. So things were quieting down. That was good. Then he asked for another drink, and she grinned, nodding. It must have tasted good. So she set about making him another drink, glancing at him every once in a while. She had a feeling something wasn't right, but she ignored it. That is, until she handed him his drink and caught a glimpse of concern and trouble on his face before he forced a calm expression.

She could ignore it. Maybe he didn't want to talk. Or maybe he needed to talk. She wouldn't know until she tried, and it was er way to try to help whenever she saw the need.

"Is anything wrong?" she asked softly, probing.

"Is anything wrong?" Quamada asked.
Jake sighed. He might as well just tell her. What harm could it do?
"I have this problem with my eyes." he confessed. "Its like a disease or something. I don't know. But I every once in a while my eyes just go blind. I can't see a thing. I become completely blind. And I don't know why. It doesn't happen very often. And when it does, it only lasts about 30 seconds. THe longest its lasted was a couple minutes. But, of course, it always feels like an eternity."
He took a sip of his drink. "I haven't told anybody about it yet. I've managed to keep it a secret for a long time. But just today, I was on the Bridge when it happened again. The Captain ordered me to do something. Being blind I couldn't carry out the order. So now she knows somethings wrong. And pretty soon, everyone else will too.
"I should get surgery on it I know. But even if I do, will they let me come back to Starfleet? I could have got us all killed when I didn't fire the torpedo when the Captain ordered."
Jake wondered why he was telling her everything about his eyes. Oh well. She seemed like a nice enough person to listen and care. "I don't know why I just told you all this. I just needed to get it off my chest I guess."
Jake finished his second drink. "Thanks for the drinks by the way."

As Murdock waited for a reply from the medical officer, he saw that Alex took off. He hadn't seen Jake or Ti'ana show up in sickbay, and from what he remembered, Ti'ana wasn't doing so well.

When she replied, he practically felt his heart leaping for joy. He didn't expect her to say yes, especially with how shy she was. Worst yet, he still didn't know her name. Well, when they would meet at the lounge, he would make a point of finding out.

Looking around, he could see Allen and Luke on separate biobeds, and Luke was raising an arm. "Looks like you might be short handed 'round here. I can lend a hand if you need me to," he offered.

She nodded, and the Texan walked over to where Luke was. "Hey, we got a counselor here that can help out?"

Alex returned a short time later, with Jake Sjet and Ti'ana Sullivan. They were back, but there were still a lot of people in Sickbay and a lot to do. Plus, if he remembered right, Jake did mention something about everyone who was on the shuttle needing some kind of a hypospray to counter the effects of the radiation they were exposed to.

Quamada listened as Jake told her about his problem. With elbows on the counter, she nodded for him to continue whenever he seemed to hesitate. It was hard for her to follow him, however. She knew that the people on these ships called each other by their titles a lot, but she had to think for a moment to identify 'Captain'. She wasn't used to titles being used so extensively. The Bridge she knew, after a moment of thought. The center of command for the ship. But she was already starting to get lost, and decided not to tackle 'Starfleet' and 'torpedo' for the moment.

Instead, she concentrated on what she did understand- Jake had a problem with his eyes and sometimes went blind.

"Have you always had these blackouts?" she asked.

She tilted her head as it dawned on her that what probably bugged him more than the blindness was his fear of being disallowed to stay.

"Would they kick you out after having surgery?" she inquired curiously. "Obviously you are a valuable member of the crew for this ship- there has to be some kind of leniency," she reasoned calmly in her fluid accent.

"Would they kick you out after having surgery?" Quamada asked.
Jake almost laughed at that. Of course they wouldn't kick him out just because of a surgery. So what was he so afraid of? That was so stupid of him for thinking something like that. Of course they wouldn't!
"Obviously you are a valuable member of the crew for this ship- there
has to be some kind of leniency," Quamada then said. Jake then felt a great swelling of pride as she said that. He WAS a valuable crew member.
"You're right." he finally said, "They wouldn't kick me out just for having surgery on my eyes. I guess what I was afraid of was that nobody would ever trust me again. Afterall, I did almost get everyone on this ship killed. But it wasn't really my fault."
Jake was getting more and more exicited. "I know what I'll do now! I'll go have surgery done to fix my eyes. Then I'll come back to Starfleet. I'll just have to work hard to earn everyone's trust again when I get back.
"Thanks for talking with me." Jake told Quamada. He didn't realize that Quamada hand't really said anything. But he was thankfull for her none the less.
"And thanks again for the drinks."
Jake was about to run back to sickbay when he realised something.
He looked back at the woman behind the bar and asked, "By the way, what's your name?"
She told him her real name. "Uh... do you have nickname?" She hesitated then said Quamada.
"Quamada." Jake said trying it out. "I'm glad to have met you Quamada."
He smiled at her then took off for Sickbay.

I guess talking to somebody was just what Jake needed.
