[But, at this moment, this was a time to focus. They had to try and perform this mind meld . . . for both himself, and for her. He didn't want to have her burdened any longer than she had to with the mental insanity that he had kept bottled up for so many years. That wasn't fair to her at all . . .
"I understand, and I am ready," Murdock told her gently, closing his eyes for a moment as he mentally tried to stell himself . . . to prepare for what was to come once they entered into the holodeck. He wasn't sure if weapons were going to be needed, but he was sure that Yunsica would tell him if that was the case.
The helm officer watched as she went into the holodeck, and then cautiously followed her inside . . .]

Yunisca quickly wipped out the two Daqtagh thats she always carried hidden on her , and gently slid on into Murock's hand. Then she quickly leaned close to him and whispered " Becareful with that its a real blade, the program is designed for thier use. This first half of the program is rather dangerous. " No sooner had she finished her sentance than she caught sight of one of the many enamies that were in the program starting to come around the corner of the house about 20 feet in front of them. quickly but gentely grabbing Murdocks arm, she pulled him behind the house closest to them. Leaning close enough to look around the corner of the building, she quickly whispered to Murdock , "There should be about 20 up around the outside of them buildings, then another 30 to account for inside the back 3 buildings. Its a tough battle we have ahead. I guess I should also warn you that inside these houses closest to us are villagers, at least one will die, I'm not going to tell you wich one, but its nessecary it happens for the emotional clenseing. " "Becareful out there, and rember Its a good day to die." Haveing said that Yunisca quickly let out the Klingon call to battle as she charged foward.

Hearing the call the enamies had charged foward in one motion, Yunisca twisted and turned to avoid their blades as she slashed and tookd down what she could. Her mind started to drift as she was getting most of the ones around her killed. She wondered how Murdock was holding up with his lot, and if he was safe. Suddenly she felt a blade slice through her arm, quickly refocusing she sliced out at the one that had cut her. Yunisca didn't have time to tend her arm, she had more to deal with.

Ensign Percy sighed as he completed adjusting the Zealous standard orbit. The night shift was slow and at some points Howard had to keep himself from nodding off. The Dim glow of the bridge lights reflected off his control panel. “I wonder how the away team is doing, he thought to himself.” Howard shook his head and tried to stay focused on the task at hand. He continued making standard adjustments, waiting for something anything to happen.

Moral Implications

Postby Ebak Sison » Sun Jul 01, 2007 11:11 am

Feeling disorientated by having his molecules pulled apart and reassembled, Ebak Sison stumbles forward a little, he had never been good with Transporters. Looking around he slowly took in the beautiful environment and peace of this world and planet, not a sound of technology could be heard, apart from their own Tricorders. He took out his as the captain gave them orders to find the nearest settlement but stopped when he saw her move a little away from the group, it was apparent something was on her mind, repaying what she done for him, he places his Tricorder in his belt and walks over to her. "Captain?...Is something troubling you?"

Captain Ja’arda was thrown off guard a bit when she heard Ensign Sison come up to her and ask if something was troubling her. “You aren’t empathic, are you Ensign?” she asked, just to make sure. If he wasn’t, then how troubled she was would have been clearly visible to the members of her crew . . . people who looked up to her.

Ebak smiled at her “I've had...more training than standard Starfleet training, I've been taught to read small things, expressions, habits to reveal an individuals current emotions, I could tell you were troubled by the way you got us busy and moved away for quiet time, not only that but I could sense a sigh from you and...your not yourself, you seem slightly off, the other crew may not be able to see it clearly...but I can...If you don't mind Captain, is there something you need to get off your mind?”
Azanialix gestured toward an area that would take them slightly away from the others while they conducted their scans. “You are right, in that I am troubled by something. I have a very heavy burden to bear at the moment.”

Ebak Sison sighs gently. "It seems that your quite upset and worried about this burden...I assume this burden is the incident with the station?"
“It’s not just that,” Zania pointed out, her shoulders drooping just a bit. “Ensign, members of my crew made the choice to destroy the last of the species. The Captain of any starship is ultimately responsible for the actions of their crew, even if the commanding officer did not directly order or have a role in what had taken place.”

She looked around for a moment, taking in the beauty of the planet, as it seemed to refresh her somewhat and calm her troubled mind. “So, since some of my crew destroyed a species that the Baku relied upon, then the burden of informing the Baku rests solely on my shoulders, as well as the blame.”

He walks forward looking at the landscape while standing next to her. "We all done what we needed to do, they could have killed a majority of the crew, we tried to contain them and failed. You are not solely responsible for the quick decision of the crew, especially in the heat of the moment, as you know, we humans react upon self preservation when, in this case it may have been the right thing, killing a few hostile creatures can outweigh the numbers of people injured or killed if they continued to roam the ship. A person is responsible for our own actions, it’s why I am down here with you, I killed one of those creatures, and therefore I am here to answer for my actions. You can't blame yourself for everyone else’s action, it may be your crew, but you are our captain. Eventually a colony must make a few changes to accommodate the extinction of another race or the date of technology in the case of the Federation. I mean, in World War I, we had telephones at the time, didn't have them in trenches so they had to resort to the old method of Carrier Pigeons." he chuckles a little. "The point is, the Baku can survive by communicating via another way, there has to be another, and I…personally think we owe it to them to find them a replacement way of communicating with the other colonies. Please...don't beat yourself up, every puzzle has a solution and we are all in it together, because we are a crew...we are a family." He smiles and turns to her.

“You don’t understand, Ensign,” the Betazoid quickly pointed out. “The Baku had once relied on technology, much as we do now. Many had been corrupted by it, so they all made the decision to abandon their technology and came to this planet to live in peace . . . free of machinery, electronics, and other things that once was on the verge of destroying their lives.” She found a bit of a taller rock, which was just high enough to provide a place where she could sit down upon it. “We can’t give them anything to make up for the loss of the worms, and still permit them to communicate with other Baku colonies, as it would violate the Prime Directive in terms of non-interference with the development of other cultures.”Zania continued to look at the countryside, simply in awe . . . and even dare say a bit jealous of the Baku, and the simple lives they lived on this world.

"I am aware of their origins and the reason of the lack of Technology, I was at the Academy when the incident with the Enterprise E happened a few years ago, I proceeded to read up on it...There has to be something we can do...captain...what if we were to give them the worms...but them not be exactly the same ones...I know the race is extinct...but...what about....cloning the worms and then giving them to the Baku? I'm sure we collected samples of their DNA at one point, though I can't be sure. Though I do recommend we tell them the truth about the real worms being killed, just don't tell them where we got the cloned ones from?" He looked over at the large lake as he quickly disappeared into memories of when he was young at the academy, when he jumped into the fountain as a dare...and then got in trouble for it, he quickly snapped back though. Through this short lapse in his concentration, you detect an odd thing...a small dark corner in his feelings and mind where information is locked up...information that she didn’t access, but knew was some dark secrets.

The dark-haired Captain shook her head a bit. “Ensign, I appreciate the suggestions, but cloning would bring up a whole other moral and ethical dilemma, and I’m not sure if we’d be ready to deal with that on the heels of what transpired with the space worms,” Azanialix mentioned. She recalled an incident from early Starfleet history . . . the Eugenics War, where genetically enhanced individuals created problems for the legendary Captain Archer. Then there was also one involving the Enterprise-D where the DNA of a few crew members had been stolen for the purpose of creating clones and repopulating a civilization. The act of manipulating the life code of any individual, whether to increase their abilities or to create a duplicate of them, was always a very difficult subject for debate due to the inherent benefits and dangers associated with it.

He looked away into the landscape before them. “I guess your right...though we are not really cloning people, just the worms, it would probably not cause many problems for the crew...but if we don't do that...what do we do to replace what they have lost, they will suffer a deep blow from this…Captain, is there any way that we can help them?" He looked around at her.

Zania drew in a deep, refreshing, and cleansing breath as she thought about Ebak’s question. Letting it out, she looked at him and gave him a bit of a smile. “The most that we can do is inform them of what happened, make our apologies, and offer our help to them. It’s best to allow them to decide how we can best assist them, if they want our help.”
He smiled "I agree, I just hope it all turns out well....its a beautiful planet, I remember when I came here with the academy to watch the Baku...I can't blame them for having a technology free life...technology is taken for granted...especially by criminals" he said the last few words with anger in his voice, you could tell who he was thinking of.

The Captain reached over and put a reassuring hand on the young Ensign’s shoulder. Ever since he had confided in her, with what had been going on with his family, she had been increasingly worried about Ebak and also about the investigation.“I know . . .” the Betazoid mentioned gently. “I wish that there was something I could do to help with your situation. Have you had any more updates?”

Yes....I have received some intel that he's now got a very small fleet, him in command or that stolen Vor'cha with 2 Raptor classes as escort, being only scouts they aren't really for battle, but I hear that he's replacing them with K'vorts from an illegal source and with them, he could prove a problem if we went up against him, especially with the Zealous as it is, I mean...no offence but it isn't exactly up to date with the latest technology and weapons.

Captain Ja’arda nodded, as the situation with the Klingon who allegedly murdered Ebak’s parents was starting to grow more dire by the day . . . especially if he was amassing a fleet of his own, and gaining powerful ships that could be used for battle. If he was able to win several battles, or gain a few more allies in his fight, then he could potentially start a Klingon civil war or attempt to overthrow the current Chancellor. “Could you keep me informed on this? I’m concerned as to what might ultimately happen,” she noted somewhat grimly, not bothering to share her hypothesis of what might eventually ensue if action wasn’t taken.

He turns to her, his back facing the beautiful view. "You know I would captain, which is why I bring slightly good news....tell me captain....what do you know about Section 31?..."

“Not much. I know they’re very secretive, and many try to disavow their existence,” she mentioned, looking at him curiously and wondering why he had brought that subject up.

"My father...used to work for Section 31, I know secrets that not even people in section 31 know, but my point is that I have...a...friend..in said department, he has offered us assistance in the form of another ship, if we go after my fathers killer...the ship is a prototype, but enough to take on the 2 K'vorts alone while we deal with Vor'cha, or vice versa...however it would require...."borrowing" the ship without permission."

“And that would put all of us at risk, as well as our careers,” Zania pointed out . . . especially with having to take a ship without permission. “But, we still might be able to help out even if we stick with the Zealous. It may not be the biggest sized ship, but she is pretty powerful and has a surprise in store for those that aren’t expecting it.”

"Maybe you are right captain, we just need to catch him off guard...anyway, the others will be wondering where we got to..." he smiles at her.

The Captain hadn’t even realized how much time had passed since she and Ebak began talking. She got up from where she had been seated on the rock, and nodded to him. “Agreed. They are probably going to wonder where we went off to. By now, they should have gotten a fix on the largest nearby Baku settlement as well.” She began to make her way back to the others, and saw her Executive Officer, Ti’ana Sullivan, approach and put a hand on her shoulder as a sign of support. She nodded to her, grateful for the half-Vulcan’s strength during this difficult time. “Do we have a fix on where to go?” she inquired.

Ebak Sison walks beside her and smiles to Ti'ana as he stands with them; he looks around, taking his Tricorder out of his belts pouch.

They materialised on the planet's surface.

Joy breathed in the cool air as she looked around to make sure everyone who had left the Zealous had arrived. It was just something she did out of habit.

The Captain requested that they find the nearest Ba'ku settlement and Joy began scanning immediately.

The air of this planet was not intoxicating as such but relaxing in a way despite the seriousness of their mission Joy felt that she was able to think more clearly then she had for some time.

When she got back to the Zealous she was resolved to have one final talk with her sister before she was transferred back to earth.

Her thought was interupted by a beep eminating from her tricorder.

Looking around she saw the Captain and another Ensign walking back over to the group. Not paying this any attention she walked up to the Captain and Cmdr Sullivan.

As the Captain asked Ti'ana whether they had found the nearest settlement Joy answered for her.

"There is a fairly large settlement half a kilometer south of our location Captain"

Howard after a long grave yard shift finally was relived by young blond lieutenant. Howard flashed a week smile at her, and received a bubbly grin and hello from her.
~How can anyone be this cheerful first thing in the morning ~ he thought to himself? Howard Percy gave her the end of quick briefing and left the bridge in a half daze. After almost falling asleep in the turbolift he finally made it too his quarters. As he entered his room he felt a presence which not felt before. Howard headed for his bunk and then saw that he had a new roommate. ~Well I guess I meet him in 8 hours or so~ Ensign Percy laid his head upon his pillow and went to sleep.

Captain Ja'arda heard Commander Robinson mention where the nearest Baku settlement was. She drew in a deep breath, although that still couldn't allieve her feelings of uneasiness about what they were about to do. This was still a huge burden on her, but she was thankful that she had other members of the crew with her . . . to help support her in this.

"If that's the largest concentration, then that's where we have to go. Let's move out," she instructed.

The Betazoid began to move with the others in the direction that the scans had revealed. She looked toward the others, and then back in the direction where they were going. She really did admire her crew, and their loyalty and support. There wasn't a better crew that she would ever want or need. All of them, in many ways, were irreplacable . . .

Her mind then started to wander, trying to think of how she was going to broach the subject of what had happened to the Baku. They were definitely at fault for killing off the last of the space worms . . . the creature that provided contact between the various Baku colonies throughout the galaxy. Now, they were essentially cut off from that.

She wondered how they were going to react to that news. Surely, whenever a culture loses something major, trying to accept that loss or adjust to the changes brought about as a result of it could be a huge transition, and a very tough one as well. If anything, it might strain the relationship that the Baku had with the Federation, if not completely destroy it. They had sworn off all technology before, and might now want to isolate themselves further by barring any member of the Federation from visiting their world and coming close with their technology.

Inwardly, she hoped that wasn't going to happen, but they wouldn't know until they got there . . .

It wasn't long before the village came into view, and a few Baku residents as well.

Howard looked up wiping the sleep out of his eyes as the doors to his quarters opened. A man with a smirk like expression walked in and came straight up to him. "Hello - I'm Ensign Avandar Stadi; I just arrived yesterday." Howard smiled the best he could with very little sleep. “Hello Ensign Stadi, I’m Ensign Howard Percy, junior flight control officer.” Howard held out his hand and grasped firmly the new ensign hand while the shook hands. “So what shift are you assigned? Myself I been stuck on graveyard shift sense we dealt with a space worm.

Explaning worms

Postby duckmedic » Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:24 pm

Ensign Stadi spoke very matter of factly, "So to answer you question, I actually haven't been assigned to any shifts yet. But I am in Security/Tactical”. At which point the ensign unzipped his jacket to reveal more of the gold tunic underneath. "I'll be grateful for whatever shift I get assigned to, but I'd love to get on some away missions - in some potentially dangerous situations; I'm a sharp shooter. Being telepathic helps with that," he grinned widely. Stadi continued without missing a beat, "I feel like I've been monopolizing the conversation; so tell me about these worms."

Howard smiled at the young ensign and wondered if he was ever this young. He felt a brief probe toward his mind which he gently pushed away. It took an effort sense he rarely used his half betazoid heritage. “Well the Space worms were being used by the Baku as messengers between their various colonies in the briar patch. We received a distress call from a science station in orbit of this planet. The Worms were allegedly responsibly for the loss of the station and death of one of the scientist’s wife. We started an investigation which almost led to the destruction of the ship. We track the worm using our fighters and the ship was hit by what we thought were teeth. Turns out they were baby worms. Commander Sullivan was almost killed. We were able to destroy all the worms at least for now. I personally think we have not seen the last of them.” He pauses to gauge Ensign Stadi reaction.

Hyperstring structure and the S.H.P

Postby Ebak Sison » Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:13 pm

OOC: Hey everyone, new info up on the forums about the mod, please check it out and let me know what you think, thank you. http://tenforward.slasims.com/viewtopic.php?p=136963#136963
Also, there is now a wiki page for the Zealous, add your name to the roster: http://stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Zealous

As Ebak Sison walked back to rejoin the away team, he stopped and recontacted the Zealous using his combadge.
"USS Zealous, do you read? This is Ensign Ebak Sison, please respond." He waited and then continued in hope his message had been heard. "Can someone monitor the hyperstrings in this area. My tricorder is showing that they are fluctuating. I don't know what it could mean, but it could spell trouble. Repeat, monitor hyperstring structure, Sison out." He then started again to catch up with the away team.

Ebak Sison continued on his way to reunite with the Away team travelling through the foliage of the planet. He looked around. 'This place is so peaceful...maybe I can move here for retirement...if the Ba'ku would allow that'. He smiled to himself, but gasped out in pain,he grabbed his chest as he felt a burning pain flow through his body. He reached into his small pouch and took out a hypospray, pointed it into his neck and plunged down on the plunger, the spray let out a hiss as the medication was injected into him. He sighed with relief and comfort as he lay down for awhile. He took out a small device and pressed a button on it and spoke into it.

"Personal log, Stardate 56467.79....the pains are getting worse by each day, and probability of a crew member finding out is getting increasingly high, yesterday after talking to the Captain, within 30 seconds I was in pain on the floor...I pray that these aren't the final stages of the S.H.P, if that is the case that I say goodbye to my humanity...I'll never trust Section 31 again for choosing me to be the live experiment, and I doubt they'd forgive me for denying their invitation to join there little group...yeah...their little group of corruption. I hope to avoid any medical problems to stop the doctor from examining me, if she were, she would discover the odd changes that have gone on with my DNA. Anyway, now that I am rested I'm going to rejoin the others." He pressed the button on the device and stood up jogging to catch up with the away team.

facing the music

The team headed off towards the Baku village.

Although it seemed like an eternity to Joy before they reached the
outskirts of the village in fact it was but a matter of minutes.

Joy had been at the front of the group adjusting their way through the
terrain to reach the village by the quickest route she had been looking
at her tricorder and nearly fell over a young girl.

"I'm sorry" Joy said immediately

"That's alright" the girl replied as she looked at the group of
uniformed officers and then looking back up at Joy she asked.

"I'm Kaylee what's your name"

Joy was a little suprised given the Baku's insular nature that the girl
did not appeared to be frightened by the appearance of the Zealous' crew.

"I'm Joy" replied Joy.

Then the girl said something so suprising and unsettling at the same
time that Joy did not really know how to respond.

"Nice to meet you Joy and I hope you bring Joy with you this sunny
afternoon"

Joy smiled as reassuringly as she could. Glancing back over her
shoulder at the Captain and the others she said.

"I hope so too. But we do have an important message for the leader of
your village"

"That would be Adam" she replied. "He's this way"

The girl picked up her doll and headed into the village looking back
only once at the Zealous crew.

(OOC: Don't worry Joy, we'll look after her. People, the Zealous now has a wiki page, add your name, rank and department/job to the crew list: http://stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Zealous )

Ebak Sison stopped next to the captain. "Sorry about that captain, I had some problems with my
tricorder." He gave a small smile as the little child ran off into the villiage. He continued with the
crew towards the center of the villiage.

"Watch out!" came a shout from a nearby green patch. Ebak turned to see a small white ball heading directly for him, he headed the ball, it fell towards the ground only to meet Ebak's knee sending it upwards and then his elbow as it flew back to the group of kids. The oldest kid caught it and smiled. "Thanks mister." Ebak smiled.
"Your welcome" He said as he watched the children start their game, all of them hitting many balls to each other using their elbows, knees and feet. "Amazing." Ebak said aloud. "I never read about the Ba'ku's amazing reflexes." He turned to the group smiling but then noticed them all watching him. He turned his head obviously a little unerved "Um...shall we continue?" He didn't wait for an answer as he continued on to the Ba'ku leader.

The Texan helm officer felt the blade that Yunsica had pressed into his hand. It wasn’t too big, but seemed to be well balanced with a comfortable hold. Inwardly, he had found a much greater respect for Klingons and their weaponry, finding the appearance and layout of each weapon to be somewhat elegant, yet well thought out when it comes to use for fighting.

He listened closely to the counselor’s instructions and nodded, following her, even as she pulled him behind the house. They had to fight about fifty Klingons?!? He kept his face stoic, although inwardly he was stunned by that almost staggering number that they had to fight, plus also the fact that one of the innocent villagers would also die as well. But, it was all part of the program. He had to keep that in mind.

He glanced over and spotted Jennifer, the EMH, who had decided to make herself semi-transparent for this exercise. He looked at her kind of curiously, unless she was doing that so she could be visible to Yunisca and himself, but not to the simulated Klingons within the program. She shrugged her shoulders, but she had agreed to stay out of the way and simply just monitor the both of them for safety reasons.

Returning his focus to Yunisca, he heard her tell him to be careful once more before letting out a yell and charging forward. Getting up from where he was crouched, Murdock also ran forward as well . . . even though to a certain degree, he wondered if he was rushing to meet his demise.

The moment he had a few Klingons rushing for him, he immediately stopped and ran back in the way he had come. A frontal assault wasn’t going to cut it, especially with the information he knew about Klingons, with them being stronger and more aggressive than he was. He needed a plan . . .

“Come back here, coward!” one of the Klingons shouted after him.

That’s when he spotted it . . . a grove of trees. His feet moved swiftly as he made his way into the forested area, fully intending to use the trunks of the trees to his advantage. He risked a glance behind him and saw that the Klingons were still following, which meant that things were still working out okay so far.

Once he got far enough into the wooded area, he turned around and moved to put a tree between himself and the Klingons that had followed him. One thought that he could actually run through the tree to attack the helm officer, and wound up knocking himself out in the process. Three of the four others witnessed this and started laughing, bur a fourth continued to charge toward the Texan.

With a few swipes of the weapon that Yunisca had given him, he took care of the one, and then started to deal with the remaining three. It took a bit, and he wound up getting a few cuts in the process, but for the most part this tactic was working pretty well and gave him the advantage.

Once all of these Klingons had been dispatched, he ran back and rejoined Yunisca to see how she was doing . . .

Once all of these Klingons had been dispatched, he ran back and rejoined Yunisca to see how she was doing . . .]

Yunisca quickly finshed the last one she had been dealing with, and turn to look for another. She took a step towards one, before she relized it was Murdock not an enamie. Fear washed through her, she had let her self totaly go this time, and the bloodhaze had almost won. Carefully she glanced Murdock over as she pushed the haze back down. Noticing he only had a few scrathes, Yunisca gently smiled at him, "Seems you handled your self out there a little better than I did this time, " she stated as she glanced down at her arm wich was still spilling a little blood.

Suddenly a ear splitting scream pieced the air, Yunisca slowly turned towards it, having to know who the program had let die this time. As she turned she noticed a young woman leaning over a small boy, and it was this woman that was screaming. Yunisca felt it all slowly wash over her, as tears started to run down her face. The hatered and anger she had let run her slid back to make room for the pain and sadness. It was always hard to loose any one, but exspecially hard to loose a child. Even with the blood on him, you could still see how cute he must have been. And you could just imagine him giggling with glee on a sunny day, as he ran and played. Yunisca unconsiously reached for Murdock's hand as she migraited towards where the woman was kneeling, Not even noticing that the rest of the town was doing the same, and ignoring the part of her brain that kept telling her to rember it was just a program made to cleanse her emotions, and that it wasn't real.

Captain Ja'arda followed her crew as they proceeded toward the nearest Baku village. Her mind was still not at rest, and probably would not be for some time. Despite reassurances from her crew, this was a very difficult thing that they had to face . . . and, they also had to find a way to tell the Baku what happened without straining the relationship between that civilization and the Federation.

As they continued to approach, more and more curious residents of the planet came out to look at the away team from the Zealous. It wasn't long before they found a central area of the village, where a number of individuals stood, seemingly awaiting for their arrival.

"Jean-Luc Picard is not with you?" a beautiful blonde-haired female inquired.

"No, he's assigned to a different starship . . . the Enterprise-E. I'm Captain Azanialix Ja'arda from the USS Zealous," Zania said, her voice very solemn.

"You must forgive Anij, Captain. The last time that we had Starfleet officers among us, she became infatuated by one of them. I believe that some of your crew already met Artim when they came down to the planet earlier," a male with somewhat short wavy hair explained.

Based on what Zania remembered from the accounts of Captain Picard, this person was Sojef . . . someone who was very skeptical of Starfleet, and also of any kind of technology. She nodded to him, and then started to introduce the members of her crew who had accompanied her for the away mission.

"As we approached the village, we were told to talk to an . . . Adam," Azanialix noted.

"Adam is a member of our ruling council, but is visiting his cousins on the other side of the mountain. Gallatian, Sojef, Tournel, Perim, and myself . . . we are all members of the council as well. Is there anything we could do to help you, Captain?" Anij inquired.

Captain Ja'arda looked downward. "I'm afraid that we are the bearers of bad news . . ."

No sooner had she said that, she started looking toward the members of her crew, giving them a chance to explain about the demise of the worms and the scientific discoveries of how it might impact the planet.

Murdock was relieved that Yunisca was okay, even though she had come close to actually attacking him. He couldn't help but to notice her smile, which was really a rarity for her . . . and, she wasn't trying to hide it either. He nodded at her comments, and then told her, "Well, all it took was a bit of unconventional planning."

What he also couldn't help but to notice was the wound on her arm, and the blood coming from it. He risked a glance over to Jennifer, who was just floating there and watching the entire time. She looked very concerned, and began to move over, but the Texan held up a hand as a signal for her to stop. When Yunisca was ready to have her wounds tended to, she would certainly let the holographic doctor know . . . and not a moment earlier.

That's when he heard it, at the same time Yunisca did . . . an almost blood curtling scream that echoed into the simulated night sky. He watched the counselor turn, and he did as well to try and see if he could find the source behind the cry of terror.

No . . . it wasn't a cry of terror, but a wail of mourning. He noticed, just as Yunisca did, a young woman who was knelt over a motionless small boy. It was a child who had died in this program . . .

He felt Yunisca's hand take his as they moved closer to where the remains of the child were being cradled by the woman. The helm officer looked around him and couldn't help but to notice that others within the town were also drawing closer as well. He looked toward Yunisca, and then focused his gaze back on the young child, feeling an extreme sorrow at the loss of life that he saw before him . . . even though it was someone that he didn't even know.

He gave a gentle squeeze on the counselor's hand, thankful to have her by his side during this. Without his unique mental traits that he had lived with for so long, he wasn't sure if he might have been able to endure this without her presence and her inner strength. He didn't want to say anything to interrupt the moment, and also wasn't sure what was next in the program . . . but he hoped that small and gentle squeeze of her hand would convey unspoken words of support and caring for her . . .

After the others each had a chance to add to the explanation, including Joy Robinson and Blake Hunter, who had detailed how the loss of the space worms were starting to have an effect on the planet's unique ability, Captain Ja'arda looked up at the various Baku. Her eyes were moist, and on the verge of tears. It was clear that she was feeling the sense of hurt and betrayal that most of them were feeling . . . all except for Anij, and Sojef.

Sojef's reaction was natural. He had never been too fond of the Federation in the first place, and highly skeptical due to their continued embrace of technology. He had strong feelings of anger, and even dare say hatred.

Anij's reaction was actually very difficult to sense, for some reason. She almost didn't seem angry or upset at all. It was almost as if she knew something more than the rest of the Zealous crew, who had come to explain the situation and ask forgiveness for their transgressions.

"There's nothing that we can do to replace that which is potentially lost forever," Azanialix began to state, only to be interrupted by Anij.

"Captain, why do you say that the Travelers are lost forever?" she wondered, her voice very calm and serene.

"You heard the accounts of my crew. The mother had attacked the station and killed a scientist, but due to the experiments that they were running that affected it. The offspring proved to be just as much of a danger to my crew, threatening their lives, even when we were trying to communicate with it peacefully," the Betazoid Captain reiterated.

Anij shook her head, her golden locks of hair shifting around her shoulders as she did so. "I believe you and your crew should see something. Please, join me," she beckoned as she began to move off.

Zania nodded, and began to follow her, and the others out of the security of the town and through the countryside. She glanced toward the others for a moment, wondering exactly where they were being led, until the group finally stopped at what appeared to be a cave of some type. A soft glow emitted from within it, which was veyr unusual.

"Captain, this is the home of the Travelers on our planet. While you may have believed that all of them were killed by your crew, I can assure you that is not the case," Anij mentioned, reaching down to gently touch Artim on the shoulder. "I believe Artim may have shown your crew this location before."

The Daughter of the 13th House of Betazed looked toward her crew members, some of whom nodded in recognition. Her dark hair flowed around her shoulders as she turned to look back at the female, who had formed an attachment with Jean-Luc Picard.

"Not all of the Travelers are dead," Anij mentioned, drawing gasps from among the shocked crew of the Zealous. She smiled and then continued, "One of the offspring had made its way to the surface of the planet, and was cured of the disease affecting the mother through the regenerative properties of the planet."

"With your permission, may we run some scans to confirm this?" Zania inquired, wanting to ensure the safety of the Baku. Once Anij nodded, Zania looked to the others who had joined her on the away mission so they could proceed to do so and confirm that, indeed, the wormling present was free of the disease that had plagued the rest and would pose no danger.

Yunisca leaned in towards Murdock as she let the grief wash through her, then suddenly her ears caught the faint sound of music. It was time for the grief to be put aside and for the rejoycing to begin. A few members of the crowd gently moved the boys body away from view as the area was quickly set up for the rejocing. It was sad that some had been lost, but this was now time for the celebration of winning. Yunisca quickly glanced at Murdock to see how he was holding up, exspecially since she knew what was to come. Quickly she leaned in giving him a gentle kiss, just before a group of young girls came and dragged her away. Hopeing Murdock would understand and just go with the flow, she let the girls drag her off to be washed and primped for the festivities, knowing that the boys would be doing the same to Murdock. Yunisca heart was fluttering like a drum in her chest as the girls washed and styled her hair and desided on her clothing for the night. Then as the girls brought out stunning black dress with the red flames climming it, her heart skipped a beat. Yunisca held her breath as the girls slid it on her and gently spritzed her with perfume, before leading her back out to where the festivities would be held. She knew to expect the long table of food, and the elegance of it all, as well as the long hours of dancing and music, but this was the first time she'd ever let any one share this moment. Her program had always been her own, untill now. Suddenly the nerviousness settled into the pit of her stomach. What if Murdock didn't approve of the dress, or having a festival this soon after the massacure that had just happened. Carefully watching her feet, she slowed her pace forcing the girls to virtually have to drag her up to the table and to where Murdock was waiting.

worm revelations

Postby Robinson » Fri Aug 10, 2007 3:17 pm

"With your permission, may we run some scans to confirm this?" Zania inquired. Anij nodded and the group quickly walked to the entrance of the cave and began scanning the interior.

Sure enough Joy quickly identified that there was indeed a wormling inside. But the question was would it be friend or foe.

There was still the matter of the radiation anomoly detected in orbit and how that had potentially affected things. And of course the difficulties they had had in accessing the station's scans of the planet.

As Joy continued working on the scan of the worm to try and determine if it was indeed "cured" of whatever had affected the other worms her comm badge chirped.

It was T'oQ. Joy took a few steps away from the main group so as not to be overheard. The news was good and terrible at the same time.

He had eventually accessed the records from the science station. Although at first it appeared they were under tight security restrictions in fact this had been a cover for a relatively simple encription process obviously done in a hurry. It was definately the station that had caused the anomoly in the radiation and this was the most probable cause for the change in bahaviour of the worms.

T'oQ had done some more digging in the stations records and it became clear that the scientist now on board the Zealous had apparently been looking at ways to harvest the healing properties of the planets radiation field without causing damage to the planet itself. He had released a compound into the radiation which should have made this possible in reality it did not and it caused the worms to act the way they did.

The ramifications of this sunk in and well it was not suprising that the scientist from the station had focused his hatred on the worms due to his grief and guilt.

"Thank you T'oQ can you put all that information on a PADD and come down to the planet"

Joy walked back over to the main group.

A Tactical officer was talking to the Captain as Joy approached.

"Uh...Captain, may I have a word seems...my tricorder may be getting some odd readings?" He asks.

"It appears I can explain those readings Captain" Joy said just as T'oQ materialised a few paces from the group.

"You had better take a look at this" she said and T'oQ gave the Captain the PADD.

OOC Hi everyone. Sorry I have been away longer then I had thought but with my holiday and then I have not been very well sitting at my PC with bad pregnancy related back ache had not been much fun. I have been keeping up with the posts though and hope that this one gets things moving a bit. With 6 weeks to the "due day" for the new little alien to rock my world my posting may be a bit sporadic but I will respond as quickly as I can. Thanks for your patients at this time.

The helm officer was befuddled by the fact that there was music and celebration so soon after they learned of the death of the child within the simulation, but he simply went with the flow of it. He didn't understand it, but this was Yunisca's program, and he had never gone through it before.

He felt Yunisca's kiss on his cheek, and then watched as the counselor was whisked away to somewhere. This really struck him as curious. Those that did it looked like they were wanting to have her join them in the celebration. A couple of guys came over to Murdock and grabbed onto his hands, beckoning for him to follow them as well. He did so, still not sure what was going on. But, he was willing to do this . . . for Yunisca. She had become very special to him, and he was wanted to anything for her.

He was led to an area where the men began to remove his uniform, and start to wash him up. Once they had finished with that, they took several towels to dry him off. They then began to clothe him with a stunning blue outfit, which seemed to be layered with gold, and even had a cloak that made him look almost like royalty.

Still very confused, he was led to a place that had a long table, filled with plates upon plates of food. Music filled the air, which created a very light and joyous atmsophere. Sitting down at a seat he was guided to, he looked around and soon saw Yunisca. She looked absolutely stunning in that red dress that she was now wearing, almost like a princess . . .

"You look amazing," he told her, giving Yunisca a huge smile that indicated his approval with what she was now wearing. He stood up and offered her a hand to help her sit down, and then moved behind her to help adjust her chair to where she'd be able to sit closer to the table without an issue. He then took up a seat right next to her.

Since this was Yunisca's program, he wasn't sure what to expect next . . . but he was fine to go along with it, since he had to do this for himself, but also for her. He was starting to get into this, and was starting to enjoy all of this, even though it was so soon after they had witnessed that death . . .

Captain Ja'arda looked over at Ti'ana, who had gasped at the revelation from Anij that a single wormling had survived, and was living in the cave. Her reaction was very natural, considering everything that had taken place, and just how very close she had come to death due to her attempts to contact and communicate with the wormlings. The Betazoid moved over to her executive officer and put a supportive hand on her shoulder. This, no doubt, had to be difficult and trying for her.

She watched as Ebak had announced his findings from the scan, which did indeed indicate that the worm seemed to be alive and in healthy condition. He had also mentioned something about his tricorder picking up some unusual readings.

Zania noticed, also during this time, that Joy Robinson had stepped away from the group and tapped her combadge. She must have been talking to someone on the Zealous. A moment later, Joy had returned to the group and stated that she could explain the readings. T'oQ beamed down to the planet, and presented the Betazoid with a PADD.

"Thank you, Ensign," Azanialix said with a nod as she accepted the portable device, and began reading through the findings that were imprinted on the screen. It was the experiments from the science station that had caused high levels of radiation, and ultimately the change in the behavior from the worms.

So, in essence, they were the ones responsible for what happened on the station, and ultimately the death of the wife. They were the ones responsible for forcing the crew of the Zealous into a situation to where they were forced to kill off what they thought were the last of a species. Even the male scientist, who had overseen the project, was animate about killing the wormlings.

No wonder why the logs on the station were so hard to access. He was trying to hide or get rid of any and all evidence that would have shown, without a doubt, that he was the one who had been responsible for everything . . .

Inwardly, the Captain was almost overwhelmed by a huge wave of disgust that she now felt for the scientist. Once they got out of the Briar Patch, and back to a Starbase, she would make sure that he would answer for what he did. But, for now, there were more important matters . . .

"Good work, Commander," Zania told her Chief Science Officer with a smile, relieved that they now finally had some answers, and some closure to all of this.

Turning to T'oQ, the Betazoid Captain inquired, "Is there any residual radiation present in the area?"

"Yes, Captain, there is," the Klingon responded.

"Get a team together to modify several of our more advanced probes. Have them detect the compound, and actually extract it from the space around the planet. I want to make sure that we can get rid of that compound, so it won't harm the residents of the planet, or any of the Travelers. If the compound can't be extracted, come up with a neutralizing agent so it won't affect the planet's radiation," she instructed.

Turning back to the Baku, who seemed to be a bit mystified with all of this, Captain Ja'arda explained, "Anij, it seems as if the head scientist on board the station was the cause of all of this, releasing a compound into the naturally occurring radiation surrounding this planet to try and harness the healing properties. That is why the worms had acted as they did, nearly destroying the station, taking one life, and nearly taking the lives of a couple of members of my crew. Now that we know what caused this, we can help stop it from causing any more damage."

Anij nodded, her golden hair swaying slightly as she did so. "We are grateful for the assistance of your crew, Captain. Thanks to all of you, you will help preserve our way of life, and allow us to re-establish communication with our other colonies."

"I only wish that we could have discovered the truth earlier. Then, we could have developed a solution then, and avoided nearly killing off the Travelers," Zania responded, indicating her main regret with all of this. Turning back to her crew, she let out a sigh of relief, almost as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. "Time to go home . . ."

She turned around and tapped her combadge. "Zealous, beam us up . . ."

With that, the away team from the Prometheus-class ship was enveloped within a shimmering beam of light and disappeared from the planet of Baku.

sigh of relief

Postby Robinson » Thu Aug 16, 2007 3:09 am

With the mystery of the worm's behaviour solved Joy was relieved to be going back to the Zealous. As much as the atmosphere of the planet was calming there was still the matter of her sister and as they would shortly be leaving the Briar Patch them Melissa would soon be leaving the Zealous.

As they arrived back on board there was an incident with one of the Ensign's who had been with the away team. He doubled over in pain but was quickly transported to sickbay.

Joy left the transporter room and as she was walking down the corridor

=/= Lieutenant Commander Scott to Lieutenant Commander Robinson. Joy I was wondering if you had time to grab a bite to eat. We haven't talked in a while so I was thinking that we could catch up. =\=

=/= I'd love to =\= Joy responded. =/= Meet you in the lounge in 10 minutes =\=

Joy's first stop was the science lab where she left the equipment she had taken down to the planet. Then she headed for the lounge.

Yunisca sent Murdock a quick smile as the music started and the food was served. The towns leader quickly stood up and made a eligant speach thanking both Yunisca and Murdock for thier help in dealing with the problem before allowing everone to eat. Yunisca ate with a ferocious hunger, suddenly relizing how she must look, she cast Murdock a sheepish smile. Yunisca knew the feasting would go on for hours as well as the dancing. Carefully casting a sly glance at Murdock Yunisca let her hand rest slightly on his leg.

Yunisca knew that after the celebration was done they would be shown to a tent for the night, then at sun up tomorrow the would enter the last part of the program. Hoping Murdock would understand and be patciant, she cast him one more guick glance before getting up and joining the dancing. She let her self be swept away with the music as she whirl and twirl.

Once they had materialized on the Transporter Pad, she heard Ebak call out in pain. Captain Azanialix Ja'arda wasn't sure what was going on with the officer, but inwardly smiled as she saw Commander Sullivan take charge and arrange for the two of them to be beamed to Sickbay. Seeing that just made the Betazoid feel that much more confident in selecting the half-Vulcan to become her Executive Officer.

She gave a nod to the rest of the away team that had accompanied her, and then began to make her way back to the Bridge. Her place was there, and it was there that she was needed. Besides, there was still a bit more work that needed to be done before they could leave the area . . .

Once she arrived, she gave a nod to the officers that were present, including a new officer who seemed to be there for his first duty shift. Zania moved over to her Command Chair and took a seat, rubbing her temples as she looked out at the viewscreen. This mission had been very demanding on her, and on all of them, so she would be very glad indeed once the last few stray elements would be wrapped up, and the could depart.

For now, all she could do was wait word from those who were modifying several of the probes to collect the compound that had interacted with the naturally occurring healing radiation around Baku . . .

Captain Ja'arda noticed Ti'ana arrive on the Bridge, and took a seat in a chair not too far away. She could tell from the look on the Vulcan's face that she was going to insist that the Betazoid get some rest, but there almost seemed to be too much to do at the moment.

Right then and there, a message came through from Ensign Sison, asking both of them to join him in Sickbay, as he had something to share with them.

The doors to the Turbolift opened, and two officers exited the car and walked onto the bridge. The one she recognized as Ensign Winchester, who took up his station at Tactical, relieving another officer who had been there apparently for a while. She looked over to him and suggested, "Ensign Winchester, you were on the away mission. Care to lend a hand with performing surgery on a few of our more sophisticated probes? Try to get a few more hands to help you in the process."

Ensign Tavan also had arrived on the Bridge, and asked to have a word with her in private. She looked to Ti'ana, who practically read her mind and offered to go to Sickbay and see what Ensign Sison required. Once the Vulcan had left the Bridge, she looked to Savar and gave him a slight nod.

"Of course, Ensign. Let's go to my Ready Room," she suggested as she stood from her chair, unconsciously tugging slightly at the bottom of her uniform shirt to smooth out the wrinkles.

She made her way over toward the Ready Room, waiting for the officer to join her before proceeding inside . . .

"Have you ordered or can I get you something" she asked.

Jarrold shook his head. "I haven't ordered yet. I was thinking of having
something light maybe a salad." Standing up he pulled out a seat for her.
His mother would kill him if he did and even in the vastness of space he had
a feeling that she could see exactly what he was doing.
"So how are things holding up in science?"
"Well we have been busy with the wormlings and it turns out that one of them survived by getting to the planet's surface"

Joy paused for a moment and then continued.

"It appears that an experiment on the science station went wrong and that was what made the worms go crazy. The wormling who made it to the surface has been healed by the planet's radiation and is no longer a threat to the Ba'ku or anyone else come to that"

Joy then remembered that Jarrold had had first hand experience of the problems caused the the worms.

"How are you after your experience with the worms?" she inquired.
