Subscribing and Bookmarking

I've only just noticed that when reading a thread, there are options right at the bottom of the screen to Subscribe to it or Bookmark it. Could someone explain what the difference is and what each option does?

When subscribing, you will actually receive an email in your inbox noting that someone has posted to your watched thread. I haven't bookmarked yet, so I'm not sure...

I bookmarked this topic. Let's see what it does.

EDIT: I went to the UCP to see if could find it. Here's what it says under "Manage Bookmarks": You can bookmark topics for future reference.

So you can bookmark them in case they get buried in other posts (say a topic on the deck listings for your sim's ship).

You can subscribe to whole forums if you wish and get emails when anyone posts in any topic there. The emails look like this:
