The SLA has been without an up to date logo for some time now. And that is about to change with your help.

Announcing... The SLA Logo Competition!

The winner of the competition will see their Logo represent The SLA, gracing it’s webpages, adverts and will become the official Image associated with the organization.

The following folk have kindly agreed to judge the competition: Kendle, Foxy, Rexan and Prax.

The Rules:

This competition is open to members of the SLA only.
The Competition will run until July 31st. Submissions after midnight EST on this date will not be considered.
All rights to the image will belong to the SLA in perpetuity for the winning submission.

Image details:

In order to get the absolute best quality possible, these are the criteria for all submissions.

Images must be at least 5” x 3” in size (that’s approximately 500 pixels wide by 300 pixels high)

Images must be on a transparent background.

Image format must be PNG or vector format. No JPG, GIF will be considered.

If possible, images should be made to work with both light and dark backgrounds.

If you wish, the image may contain the SLA slogan "Where We Touch The Stars"

Send your images to contests (at) the SLA's domain.

Remember - Midnight EST July 31st 2009 is your deadline!

I know there are some very talented folk out there, who can make beautiful graphics. Remember, anything that arrives after July 31st at midnight EST will not be considered!!

So was a winner ever chosen for this?

Yes.. there has been a Logo chosen for the SLA. I was hoping one of the judges would announce the winner..

Who done it? (Who designed the logo?) Did it get multiple contributors?

I like it! Where will it be used?

There were several entries and some people entered more than one design - all of which were considered as individual entries.

It was an interesting contest - some people had tried to represent as many of the different sims as possible in their design, but that did run the risk of ending up cluttered and hard to distinguish the individual items when it's being used as a small icon. The winner was a smooth, stylish design that worked in both colour and B&W and when shrunk right down.

And the winning designer was... Tavey.

Apologies on behalf of we judges for not doing the declaration sooner. I think we were all waiting for each other!

In terms of where and when it'll be used, I'm not completely sure myself. I presume we'll have a revamp of some of the SLA images (www.slasims.com) and links from other sites. Not sure if it'll include the items we have for sale with CafePress, but I've bought myself a mug with the current design while stocks last, just in case...
