What is WhatPulse exactly?

The purpose of WhatPulse is simply to collect statistics about your computer behavior. Some use it to determine how long they've worked on something, like a programming project, a school essay, chatting by all means.

And for all you who are thinking "Oh my god a keylogger, no way!", well, exactly - No way. WhatPulse is not and never will be any sort of keylogger, it does not collect the keys you type, but only how many keys you type.

How does it work?

In order for WhatPulse to work, you must first create a free account at http://www.whatpulse.org . Once you have done that, download and install the software on your computer.

WhatPulse opens a so-called "keyhook" when it's booted, which listens to incoming Windows messages about the keyboard, the keyhook sends these messages to the program itself, and the program first determines if the key pressed is a proper key (Every standard keyboards' keys are counted) and then simply does PreviousKeyCount + 1.

How do I join a team?

When you login to the WhatPulse site, scroll down until you see a box with your name, and areas where you can check your stats, your team stats, changing your profile, etc. In that box you will find a selection for Teams.

Once you go there, you can either create a team, or join one. Click on join, and then you can search by team name. Plug in SLA and then join up!

Pulsing

When you "pulse" (by double-clicking the "W" in your taskbar, by the clock), you're actually sending your keycounts in the program to the server along with other information about your Account, so the server can decide where to put the keycount. If the pulse goes according to plan, the server sends back an "OK", and the client's keycount is reset to 0 (zero), and your previous keys are added to your profile in the server database! :)

Forum Banners

You can show off your progress through a small graphical banner, which you can add to your signature on the fourm. To get one, go to http://whatpulse.bounceme.net and sign up with the same user name that you used to create your WhatPulse account. (Note: The forum signatures have been temporarially taken offline due to excessive bandwidth. They will hopefully return again soon.)

The forum signatures are back!

Also, for those of you who are skeptical, WhatPulse is not and never will be any sort of spyware. I've run two of the top anti-spyware programs out there, and none of them ever red-flagged the WhatPulse program.

Also, the Privacy Policy of WhatPulse specifically states that the program will never be any form of spyware. If it was, then I'm sure that the site wouldn't have the over 25,000 members that it currently has!
