Campfire Logic- The Oldies Strike Back

Postby Jake Sjet » Sun Feb 15, 2004 4:28 pm

This is an advice forum for the Zealous, but I'm gonna give it the Sjet twist (Zania if you want delete this if it's not right this is a wild card idea and thus is expendable).
The 'older' members of the sim (Those who were here when I joined up way back in Aug 2003) are as I have come to know rather 'wise', and seeing how the 'younger' simmers seem to be out doing the posting numbers with quanity and quality, I thought might as well have a forum where the older simmers (In experiance) can dispense idea's and help to others.
I would ask you to post on this thread In Character (Also known as IC) as this act in two ways.
The Sjet twist.
And it tests your ability to adapt.
The setting is the a, well, think conventition centre but the fist to add NPC trekkies will be shot ON sight.
So....let the games begining (Again, Zania if this is not allowed please delete on sight...)
First one to post, gets the prize....

Okay, it was late and spelling wasn't that good anyway....the SLA needs a spell checker.
End of story.

Jake, buddy, I hardly consider myself as a 'younger' simmer, in fact, I think your posts have made me grow old even faster.....
Okay okay, I admit, the first weeks I really was a newbie, not knowing what to do and messing up the storyline once or twice, I'm human, I think....
Anyhow this is a great idea Jake!

So, if I understand this correctly, this is an advice Forum. A place where I could ask questions about posting and what not, and get answers.
I thats the case: I do have a question.
In the forum titled 'Welcome to the U.S.S. Zealous' it says you require 10 logs to be promoted from an Ensign. But later on, it says you have to post 10 logs to be promoted to Ensign. I just want to know how many I should post.

You start off as an Ensign, then the quantity and quality of posts are considered at the end of each mission. All things into account, you may be promoted :)

You know, rank shouldn't be what motivates you to write your logs. The real reason that you post your logs is because YOU HAVE A DEMONIC TASKMASTER THAT ENDLESSLY WHIPS YOU WHILE YOU SLAVE AWAY AT YOUR KEYBOARD!!!!!!! of your love for writing and the continued development of your character and friendships between the simmers themselves. Rank is just an added bonus, often indicating seniority or perhaps exceptional skill. It is not intended to discriminate against poor writers, or people who cannot commit as much time to writing logs but serves more as a reward to those who can commit themselves.

Hoped this has helped.

Here for fun not rank! :)

Postby Melissa Richards » Tue Feb 17, 2004 6:03 am

I honestly never think about the rank thing. I actually when I first joined considered making Melissa a civilian :) My primary purpose for this game is a diversion. I work long hours and this is one of the various things I do to break up the monotony. Usually my computer at work and at home is used for..well work :) But it's nice to use it once in awhile for something I truly enjoy like writing stories.

Transcribing and writing up court depositions can get pretty tiring after awhile. I could care less about promotion, I'm here for fun.

Now Melissa on the other hand well..she may have other ideas. (giggle)

Marissa :)

See, thats the way to see the SLA, as a hobbie and not a solid commitment. It's not about rank its about having fun.
Now, I want to know if we can keep this counilor longer than a month. If we do I'll have something funny happen to Sjet.

Exactly! Rank isn't everything in the game, it's about writing and enjoying yourself.

However, you have to admit, rank gives you something to work for aswell. If you want to earn the high ranks, you've got to be an outstanding logger. Jake Sjet and Murdock earned their rank through sheer comittment and outstanding logging.

Ranks are a nice way to reward quality simming. And a nice way to recognize the quality simmers. We got a good crew on the Zealous. :)

I don't know if we'll have an official ceremony, even though quite a few crew members are up for promotion. From the way it appears, we'll be trying to make a smooth transition into Taneth's storyline. Not to worry! Those who are up for promotions will receive them when the Tarmon Ay mission ends!

Something funny for Sjet?

Postby Melissa Richards » Wed Feb 18, 2004 6:03 am

Hmm..keep me longer then a month? So far that's more then likely so you better be ready to wear a tu tu running down the hall or some such interesting thing. I got it. Maybe on the day Melissa reaches Lt.? Giggle.

Naw. I'll reach that rank before a month at this rate I think. But..never know. It's a good challenge!
