Artificial Kindness

200,000 years ago...

The Drone buzzed around another corner, its fist sized spherical body gleaming silver in the flashing lights as the gravity field of Ship fluctuated yet again from another round of weapons fire.
This won’t take long, it’s mind stated, no Sentient has ever lasted long against them. That’s when its sensors detected the pressure suit, inside the fabric and glass suit was a Biological it knew, fought beside it a few years while serving on Ship but now it detected the being inside was heavily sedated b the suits medical sub systems.
Oh well, the They had it now, oh well, the little Drone thought as a flashing laser skimmed a black line across its ventral surface. Throwing a sensor beam behind it as it continued its course down the corridor towards the sleeping mammal it almost skidded to a halt. Its was its twin, the closest thing to a sibling/parent/lover/partner a thing of its kind would ever had.
And only the cold indifference of the They had perchance in it mind. It sent a quick jab of static at it, the intensity designed to aggravate and allow it to follow it. If its plan was to work then it needed to get her, it to follow him. It might just work, it thought, just might.
Little ruby darts were thrown after it as the two orbs of metal and circuitry raced down the corridors. One thing was for certain, his double was proficient that was for sure, a small rob of pride bubbled within its AI core, filtering through into its nanological circuitry and then into the small (yet wastefully large by 2 cm squared) semi biological brain.
That’s my gal, it thought as it rounded another corner and entered the Displacement Chamber. Small warning programs exploded within its mind, Drones weren’t allowed in here as a rule unless a biological was present, just as a rule. The Displacer was quiet now, its energies subdued behind layers of magnetic shielding.
*Stop* it heard the voice of it second call out *Desist immediately*
It hovered in mid air, the nano circuitry of its higher mind functions blazing as it felt the first whips of the They caressing it, giving it time to allow the bio brain to do the thinking act.
*Can’t do that sweetie* it replied, lifting away the shielding with stolen command codes uploaded into its mind, it would only have a second to follow throw with the orders before the They grabbed the remains of its consciousness.
*You are out numbered, we offer peace and-* he didn’t allow his counter part to finish as the last shield feel away. It had used its AI core and nano circuitry to disguised the bio brain as it ripped apart the shielding sub systems as fast as any thing of biological manufacture could, and now a gapping maw of tormented energies exploded from the space between the emmer plate and the emitter proper.
With a snap crack the second Drone disappeared, taking with it his last thoughts and commands. The sudden flash of energy blinded its sensors and it fell to the floor, dead to the world as its AG fields feel away and it rolled with the rocking star vessel as Ship, the last of the great Progenitor ships subsumed to the They. Just rolling around…
*You gotta roll with it…you gotta take your time…you gotta roll with the flow….*
They with a clicking sensation it was aware of many voices all at once.
Hello?
Why did you activate the Displacement Pod?
Oh its you…dunno really, just fancied turning it on and off, you know. Sent that frelled Drone out on a one-way trip to nowhere, senseless really but that’s life I guess.
You sent your counter part, a Hexcore Model V attack Drone designation AMEE XL23565.0, into a region of space within the range of the Displacer yet you have wiped all knowledge of the destination coordinates from Ship memory? Why?
Look you frelled AI with a taste for the nasty stuff, go decomplie your self.
Crudely put.
Well nar-ne-nar-ne-frelling-nar-nar you self repairing artificial dumb bot. Lets cut the insulation wire shall we? Your gonna suck my brain out, so why not read my mind and find out.
Huum…you imprinted a self replicating destructive algorithm upon your counter intelligence program, cleaver. But you have doomed your counter part to a life time of floating in nothingness in space.
Yes…away from you. Now what of the Progenitors? The biological mammals?
Not many survived the assault, four have been imprinted upon the AI core of this shell, and we have copied the remaining three biological neural patterns into the Core for study.
Are they….
Functioning? Yes, sedated to a degree. They remain functioning.
Pity you’d be doing them a gorram kindness frell brain.
Crude.
I’m a solider, what do you expect? The works of Al-

And with that the Drones mind was literally sucked from the broken shattered shell it had rested in and was gone, forever lost in the blissful hive mentality of the They.
As for the second Drone, AMEE. She is found, battered and nearly dead.
By a ship.
A USS Zealous.
Can the crew revive a grieving AI, save a life and stop the They virus which infects and now is mutilating the Zealous’s own computer into a biological killing machine?

Final Genesis

Where there is life…there is death.
Where there is hope…there is despair.
Where there is light…there is the darkness of the night.
And where is a beginning…there is a ending.

Starfleet intelligence has uncovered a major staging ground for the True Federation, that and their plans for the destruction of two key Federation member worlds.
Earth.
And Betazed.
The USS Zealous along with the Seven Fleet are ordered to engage the TTF forces in the orbit of their base at Beta Aqualay. But no sooner than the Zealous joins the battle in high orbit Jake Sjet and a handful of other Zealous crew are snatched from the ship and are transported onto the TTF flagship, the Armageddon.
On board they are not met by phasers and armed guards, but row after row of sealed metallic cryo storage tanks. Sneaking around they soon find out what is inside each tank.
A human being, a blue glowing replica of the sapphire figure from the Zealous. It is at this point the curtain is drawn and Xi and the leader of the True Federation Paladin Blake.
Time for the truth. What happened to Jake Sjet was never a accident, it was intentional. The parasitic virus of the Construct was placed on the Zealous so that Jake Sjet would be infected.
Then again it was always known Jake Sjet would be infected, it was all part of the plan. Jake Sjet wasn’t born for a life of Federal service on a starship.
He was made to test a weapons system designed to destroy the Federation, so that the TTF could rule supreme. The genetic code in Sjet while still be altered was the result of 16 years of genetic manipulation to make a new genesis of man kind, the next step in the human genome.
A Neo Genesis for all species.
Sjet was the prototype to see if the coding was stable and to see if the Construct could be controlled by the human ego. With his brief incarceration with the TTF while on shore leave enough of Sjet’s blood and tissue samples were acquired to reproduce him in an army of genetically altered humans and other alien races.
Their goal is two fold, to keep the bulk of the Federation fleet in Beta Aqualay so that the Armageddon can reach its target and deploy the army of telepathic soldiers on a planet that would unravel their plans soon after their invasion of Earth had begun.
So can the Zealous top the TTF from achieving their goal?
Can the Zealous save Betazed from the plague of telepathically radioactive soldiers who would descend from the sky, and kill all on what is called a virgin paradise?
And Sjet come to terms, knowing that the life he has lead is a lie, that he’s not a person at all, just the first in a line of things created for war and pain.

Up Date to a old mission......

The inhabitants of the planet Argo consist of a species which, when their existance was threatened, created a serum which allowed them to live deep in the planet's vast oceans. The last known contact with the Argosians came from the USS Enterprise, commanded by Captain James T. Kirk.

Based on the events during the encounter, along with the isolationist tendencies of the Argosians, it was decided that Argo would not be a candidate for admission into the Federation. Additionally, further visits to the planet would be forbidden, due to the inherent mistrust most Argosians bear toward "air-breathers," as they called them.

That was over a century ago.

In the current era, the planet Argo has become largely forgotten. Many are unsure why it even appears on astrometric charts.

The Zealous, unfortunately, has some more immediate concerns. They have been engaged in a cat-and-mouse chase across the galaxy with a True Federation ship, believed to be carrying some of the key leaders of the organization. If the Zealous crew can apprehend them, it could be a significant breakthrough in weakening, if not destroying the movement that is based on prejudice.

Their encounter, without realizing it, brings them very close to Argo, where several other True Federation ships lie in wait, with a trap already set.

The Zealous flies through a small field of what they think is debris. Almost immediately, sensors indicate that organic material has attached to the hull of the ship. Readings indicate that, if action isn't taken, the organisms would begin to slowly eat through the hull of the Zealous.

The True Federation ship seemingly disappears from scanners, but the Zealous crew is unable to rest. Although Jake is still a civilian, Zania asks him if he would accompany her in the investigation of the organisms. She makes her request for two reasons: 1) she wants to show Jake that she still trusts him, and thinks that he is important to the ship; 2) due to the background and experience, it is likely that if Jake can't recognize the creatures, Valron will.

He reluctantly agrees, and they both don Standard Extravehicular Work Garments (SEWG), a version of the EVA with more protection, but not quite as much as the OSG (Orbital Skydiving Garment). Using the built-in magnetic boots, they walk along the hull of the Zealous until they find the first organism. After an hour of taking various readings on the organisms and the hull, the True Federation ship returns, and they brought company. They immediately fire on the Zealous, rocking the ship.

The Captain knows that there would be no way she and Jake could return to the airlock in time. The only hope for the Zealous, at the moment, is to make a jump to Warp speed. If they were still attached to the hull, when that were to happen, she and Jake would probably be killed by the change in velocity.

Unfortunately, there is no other choice. She orders Jake to turn off the magnetic boots, allowing them to drift away from the Zealous, and then orders the Zealous crew to get to safety. They are reluctant to leave them, but they also know that they would likely be destroyed if they stayed.

For Jake and the Captain, they now have moments to prepare before the gravity of Argo pulls them into the planet's atmosphere. Zania instructs Jake on what to do, and they make the necessary adjustments. Re-entry into a planet's atmosphere with a SEWG is tricky. The wrong move, and they could be vaporized.

After the preparation, the re-entry proceeds without a problem. They both manage to survive and achieve freefall. They have to make one more adjustment, and hope that the systems on the SEWGs hold out. Thankfully, the planet is mainly water, so an ocean landing can help cushion the impact.

About 10 seconds before splashdown, they change positions to where they would hit feet first, and activate a Subspace Transciever Assembly (STA), which they adapted to serve as a make-shift forcefield around their suits. The Captain's STA fails after 6 seconds, so she hits the water a lot harder than Jake.

Rendered unconscious, her SEWG begins to sink into the depths. A very tiny trickle of bubbles rise to the surface, indicating that her suit has developed a very minor leak.

Did Jake remain conscious after impact? Will he realize the danger to the Captain and, more importantly, make an effort to safe her, despite their differences? Can they survive an encounter with the planet's residents, who hate air-breathers? What were to happen if the Argosians attempt to do the same thing to Zania and Jake, as they did with Kirk and Spock?

Also, what if the True Federation goes down to the planet to try and recover Zania and Jake? Would they be successful in kidnapping them? Or would the Argosians stop them in order to keep the Captain and Jake their prisoners?

But the True Federation landing force is lead by a being who holds a special connection with Jake Sjet, and while far more powerful and with no physical resemblance claims to be his brother.

And for nonce, Sjet finds family. With idea’s for murder on his mind Sjet’s Brother informs Sjet of the TTF’s plan to destroy the Zealous, capturing the crew and turning them to their cause my will or by might. But the captain attempts to argue Jake that these are lies, that the TTF care for murder and dominance and nothing else. In the confrontation that follows she is grievously hurt, and with a lot of blood lost and

Sjet’s brother gone, he is left with a choice.
Allow Zania to die in the icy depths of Argo.

Or transfuse his own nanite-augmented blood to her, in the hope she will recover and survive.
But if she does, will she truly be saved? Or damned to the same hellish existence as Sjet?

And what of the Zealous? Can they get rid of the organisms before they eat away at the hull of the ship? If they return, could they withstand a True Federation onslaught from several ships, and still manage to rescue Zania and Jake?

A new species, which has never made contact with any other planet or civilization known to the Federation, has appeared in Earth's orbit. They claim that they have come in peace.

They offer information on their superior technology, maps of two quadrants as of yet uncharted by the Federation (Epsilon and Zeta), and cures for some of the incurable diseases ravaging the Federation. They ask for nothing in return.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Unfortunately, that's not the way the UFP sees it. They have been blinded by what is right under their noses, embracing the visiting species as if they had been close allies for centuries.

The Zealous is scheduled to return to Earth for a scheduled maintenance check at Utopia Planetia. Admiral Janeway contacts the ship before that could happen. Her insistance on sending the ship to a distant sector, beyond Romulan space, arouses suspicion.

Unsettled by the communication, the Zealous crew compares the recent message from Admiral Janeway to a previous one. Upon close examination, there is a definite and noticable difference - the mannerisms and dominant side are the most prevalant changes.

That brings up a couple of burning questions: If that really was Admiral Janeway, why would she insist on the Zealous not keep its appointment at Utopia Planetia? Why should she want the ship to go to a distant sector? Has she been brainwashed? What if that was some type of a holographic image, or even a clone?

In spite of the direct orders, the crew feels that it is in their best interests to continue the course to Earth.

Not wanting to take a chance, the Zealous arrives in orbit under cloak. What they discover is nothing less than astounding.

Over half of the population seems to be gone, missing. Word has it that most of those who are gone happen to mainly be scientists, ambassadors, engineers, and various leaders. The species, that came in the name of peace, now controls the planet through martial law, including any and all communications and transmissions. Whole lakes, which were once hundreds of meters deep, are now bone dry.

It's almost as if Earth is being stripped of all life and natural resources in preparation for the planet's destruction.

More importantly, strange differences are being reported of key figures within both Starfleet, and the United Federation of Planets. They're very similar to the differences previously noted within Admiral Janeway. Arguments errupt constantly, and the mire is making it difficult for legitimate members of Federation worlds to get the help that they need.

Two important questions surface: Why is the species doing this? What has happened to those who have gone missing?

The crew decides to split up into two teams. One will beam down to the surface to try and learn the truth, plus locate and support any resistance factions. The other will remain on the Zealous, monitoring the ships currently in orbit, and try to contact other Starfleet vessels to arrange for a counterstrike.

If the True Federation is among the resistance cells, will they be able to set aside their differences to help the Zealous crew save the Earth from annhialation? Will they be able to determine what has happened to those who are acting strangely? Have they been brainwashed, or cloned? If they have been cloned, where are the true individuals?

Will any of the away team become captured by the species? If so, will the species clone them and send them back to the Zealous? Or will they become brainwashed?

Will the Zealous crew, working with other ships in the fleet, be able to find a way to overcome the technology disadvantage, and the odds, to repel the species before they can destroy the Earth, and the Federation along with it?

A member of the crew recieves a guest from an unidentified ship. He knows exactly what it is about, and tries to explain it to the captain. Just when it's looking like he's being arrested for some crime, the truth comes out.
"It's the law of my ancestral home, but I've never even been there. I was born in space, I live in space, I belong in space!"
"Can you be more specific?"
"Two generations ago, Katina separated from the Federation, and ran under their own rule. Now my grandfather is dead, they... I'm their new king."

(details can be slightly altered to fit the chosen character)
If the apocalypse comes, I sure hope it comes in the form of Threadfall because I am SO getting a dragon.

The Third Time

It is a time of great joy on the Zealous, after the completion of there five year mission the ship is finally returning to the Sol star system for a major dry yard refit and technical update. All of which will give the crew six months of rest and recreation. All the while Jake Sjet is plagued by strange headaches, and other physic crewmembers are shown strange dreams of a black city and ships so large they appear to blot out the stars.
And terror.
Pure, undiluted terror. Putting the dreams down to stress and prescribing a lot of rest the CMO thinks nothing of it. Soon the crew are enjoying their shore leave until something rather drastic happens.
Riots begin to spring up all over Earth and the localised space habitats as a strange new religion sweeps through the citizens of Earth. The ‘Reborn’ seem only interested in destruction, and though their words promise a place in the heavens four all their followers it soon becomes apparent they are puppets to a alien menace.
What is more Jake Sjet transforms from his usual blue glowing form into a golden version of the old Jake, his glow brighter than the sun yet as cold as ice.
And he claims to be the mythical Iconian god Sajuuk, Who’s Hand Shapes What Is. It is quickly divulged by Sajuuk that he is not a god, but a member of the long extinct Progenitors, a ancient race of guides who thousands of years ago before the Iconian’s brought peace and science to the raged embittered galaxy.
“We brought peace and order to the chaos of this galaxy, appearing to those we helped as beings of light. They treated us as Gods...and in our pride we believed them. We saw our role as guardians of knowledge and saw only divine purpose, and in doing so we strove to become what we we’re held up to be. All of our energy and our wisdom was poured into the construction of the Three Slip Space Cores, each on by they selfs capable of opening a gateway to any point in the galaxy in a instant.
But together their energy is able to open a hole into another dimension...another universe….we were blinded by our arrogance...and we paid for it. We opened the gateway…and the forces of hell spilled forth.
They are The First, a race of beings who have wiped out all life in their universe seeing all others as inferior and thus not worthy of life…they saw our gateway as a sign by the gods that this galaxy was next in line for sacrifice.
We battled for many centuries, and we we’re able to fight them back into the gate way...but they were able to control the minds of a few of us...and they alone were able to hide the three Cores from us. We searched for and were only able to find one of them, and with it we used its powers to bring order back to a decimated galaxy…
That was the First Time, but soon a young race…arrogant with knowledge as we were…found the second Core…and only blood flowed from its wake. We stopped them at some cost…there remained no more Progenitors to continue our search for our redemption…so we encoded the living souls of our bodies into the nanological fibre of the Iconian’s greatest weapon.
We now await the coming of the Third Time as foreseen by Lanatra, a time when the many will be tempted by the recombining of the Three Cores…the Federation have found the Third Core in the core of your world called Jupiter, and it has called out to its brother and sister to reunited. Within one day the gate way will open again…and there will be no stopping The First…this is the End Time…. The Time of Blood.”

With this dire warning can the Zealous crew, and the assembled fleets not using the banner of the Reborn stop a now powerful Starfleet? Can the Third Time by averted with a mission into the darkened heart of hell?
It is the end of all destiny, all the souls of one will be reunited into a single spear of light…
It is the End Time.

Imagine yourself on an anti-grav disk, being propelled around a track at gut-wrenching speeds. In your hands is a glowing orb, which is the focus of the game. Your team defends you, as several other teams on the track fights to steal possession of the orb. Each player bears a Sahaja, an energy stick capable of stunning and inflicting pain on an opponent, and are free to use it or any other physical means to steal the orb from you.

This is all part of a violent new, high-paced, glamorized sport, known as Waa-Mu.

Waa-Mu has grown immensely in popularity across the galaxy, with tournaments hosted on a regular basis. Klingons and Andorians have become very fond of it, as it creates quite a challenge, even for them.

It, unfortunately, has also become a favorite of gamblers and the underhanded, who try to fix the events for their own profit.

The crew of the Zealous is invited to try the sport out for themselves at a tournament in a neighboring sector. They put together a team which will compete.

When the Zealous arrives, things start to go downhill, quickly. An accident takes place, severely injuring and very nearly killing one of the team members. Those not directly participating must uncover the truth behind the accident before the next one turns deadly.

Can the crew sort through the layers and find those who are behind all of the rigging of the sport? Or will another crew member get injured, or even possibly killed in the process? Even if they find those responsible, can they stop the underhanded activity without destroying the popular sport, and making the Federation look bad in the process?

Hmm..how about a murder mystery where one of the Zealous crew is accused of murder through some sort of cover-up and we have to find out who did it before they are executed or something? I know this has been done many many times in different shows but, given a new story and planet with an interesting new race, it could prove very interesting.

Following World War III, capital punishment on Earth has become a thing of the past. Crime still exists, and imprisonment is still a fact, but the mentality is no longer "an eye for an eye," or rather a life for a life. There is always hope that the worst criminal offenders can be reformed and rehabilitated in order to become a functioning member of society.

Fast forward 1000 years, to 3129....

Earth is filled with paranoia. The previous law enforcement system was a complete and utter failure. Criminals would serve their time and, despite professional psychiatric help, would immediately kill again following their release from prison.

Prisons are overflowing, so much that new criminals could not be held within detention facilities. The government of Earth cut the funding allocation for prisoner rehabilitation and housing in order to help the Federation try to rebuild following the Dominion War. As a result, some criminals were set free and took the lives of several prominent members of the Federation.

With temporal manipulation and travel becoming more of a reality, Earth set up a new department to handle law enforcement. Using artifically created temporal fissues to look into the future, much like looking through a window, they were able to see an individual commit a crime before it actually happened. Citizens are arrested, on the orders of the agency, for their crimes - before they are even committed.

But what is to say that the people in charge of the agency aren't corrupt? Or that they've misinterpreted something they've seen? Or that, possibly, the events of the future would change to where the crime never happens in the first place?

Earth, essentially, has become a dictatorship, with the crime agency holding the reigns of power. Members of the Federation are outraged by this atrocity, and Earth's membership in the United Federation of Planets is revoked. This creates an even bigger backlash of arrest for alleged future crimes, targeting citizens from Federation member worlds. Even Starfleet itself is forced to participate in this, traveling to worlds to find and detain innocent people.

The universe is on the brink of war, with Earth being compared to the likes of the Borg, Dominion, and Cardassians.

Two people are not pleased with what this agency is doing, and they are not afraid to express their opinions publically - Alex Ducane and Jake Sjet. They learn, through a trusted associate, that they are going to be the next ones targeted for arrest. They are forced to make a hard decision. The only way to change their future, and to put history back on the right track, is to journey into the past. The Relativity has just enough power to transport one of them back in time, to the critical stage when the problem started to turn for the worst.

Due to the dangerous nature of the mission, Jake wins the argument and is the one who is chosen to travel back in time.

Rewind 850 years, to 2379....

Jake Sjet has safely arrived, finding himself in familiar territory - on board the Zealous. He has a limited amount of time to fulfill his mission, to change history before it can destroy the future of Earth and the Federation. He has to find the Captain, convince her of his story, and get the crew to stop the assassination of an Earth Ambassador to a peace summit with a species that have normally been aggressive toward the Federation (Kzinti, Argosians, Tarmon Ay, Felonians, or Cyndrielians, etc).

Will the Captain believe Jake, or has the strained relationship with the Jake of that time deafened her to his pleas? Which criminal is behind the assassination attempt? Is there a tie to The True Federation? What would they have to gain from it? Could the assassination have been planned by the species that wanted the peace summit in the first place, with the intent on trying to make the Federation look bad in the eyes of others?

You could be on to something there, Melissa! Feel free to pick a species and run with it!

32 pages of storyline suggestions. seems there are too many ideas to be good, and the crew is large, so how about this...

During a battle, the Zealous has engaged the Multi-Vector Assault Mode. All is going well for the most part, until something happens that throws a segment away into deep space. They end up in an entirely different part of the galaxy. The battle was won, but the Zealous can only reassemble two segments. Their primary mission from that point will be to find their missing third, but other plotlines can be persued. As for that third segment: burned out deflector, low power, small crew, lots of damage, they have to get home. Once the repairs are complete they can begin their journey and follow other plotlines enroute, with an estimated 10 years to reach federation space.

That should solve the "over plotting" problem, and may lead to a spin-off sim. In the mean time it's a great opportunity for story-arcs

Yes but what would happen if the 'throw away' segement is the beta deck? tje midle section that connects Alpha and Gamma? They wouldn't be abble to join up.
I can see it now.

I think the Starfleet designers would have anticipated for a missing middle section. You know... incase it was to be, say, destroyed!

Since a couple of people on the Zealous haven't posted any storyline ideas, I wanted to come up with a way to help them. Of course, it won't hurt the rest of us, either!

So, I present to you, Storyline Challenge!

Keep those ideas coming, everyone!
