New SGC/Earth Allies

Postby Reznov on Sun Nov 29, 2009 10:39 am

So I spoke to Geggs about a new ally for the SGC/Earth, and he told me to go ahead and make them. So for most of the month and part of October I slaved away to get it finished by Thanksgiving, and I finally finished it. I sent the document to Josh and he seemed to like it (if my memory serves me correctly). I'm still waiting for confirmation from Geggs but after talking to Chris I decided to ask what everyone thinks about a new ally.

Now I've looked into fileshare, and wikias, and even a website for them but that's just way too much work than I want to do, if you are interested in seeing the document I can send you an email with it. I only need to know 2 things; first is which email addess would you like me to send it to, and second do you have the lastest Microsoft Word (2007 or better) if you do not then I will need to break the document up into 2 emails (which isn't a problem).

I'm coming out with a new update to the Elysians today, I'll email it out to everyone's email address that I currently have.

If you don't have the .pdf/.doc/.docx and if you'd like the .pdf/.doc/.docx let me know and I can send it to you, I just need your email address.

OKay since this has been pushed, I'll go on record and say publicly what I said privately to the writer earlier when this idea was first floated.

I don't like this, I don't think it fits the genre, the paradigm or the continuity.
While I can appreciate the amount of effort put into this, and the quality and imagination of that work, I do not believe this is the right place for this addition, we have plenty already.

And if it really is going to be the core of this mission then I apologise but i'll not be part of that core, whether that means a separate sub plot or simply a mission long LOA. If these are going to be a part of the ongoing storylines.. then I'll look for somewhere else to play.

Sorry Geggs, others, I do feel that strongly about this, I tried to do it the nice way, have discussed it, my reservations, the reasons for them, and made suggestions for compromises as much as I can, but that didn't work so this is the only way left.

You have fun guys, fire me a PM when you're done

From what you told me [from what I can remember] you didn't like the whole starship concept, but whether you like it or not, Stargate has starships. Now just because the Elysians make use of starships more than Stargates doesn't mean you'll find yourself on them, I'm assuming that this mission is to go more or less like this.

1. Elysians find strange alien device, they take said device.
2. SG6 arrives to find MALP, encounter Elysians.
3. SG6 "faces off" against Elysian patrol, after heated discussion, maybe some shots fired in anger SG6 meets Commander Argus.
4. [Geggs fills in the rest] I assume it to go along the lines of cooperation for the duration of the mission, then after mission Earth and Elysia allies, mission successful.

I kinda see it more or less taking place on the ground and not on the ships that the Elysians use, unless we go to a planet with no Stargate but I don't know why we'd do that.

I'm not sure you've really listened to a word Chris has said. The starships are only a small part of the problem he has with this addition.. as he repeated every update you showed him.

If it's okay with the rest of you we'll knock something else up for us to be doing while you involve yourself with them. That way hopefully neither of us have to really acknowledge they exist.

As for not fitting into the genre I don't see why not, it has been established that there are advanced human civilizations out in the Milky Way galaxy. If we were in the Pegasus galaxy I could see them not fitting in, but in the Milky Way galaxy it fits fine; at least in my eyes.

For example the Elysians may be involved in active warfare with the Gou'ald and their Jaffa, but that doesn't mean that they go out of their way to find them, they're more concerned with colonization and defense. On occasion however they do campaigns against the Gou'ald but it only happens every couple decades, it's not a common occurence.

What specifically is it that you don't like?

Ok to be very honest this sounds a bit confusing to me.

While I can see all the work and thought that was put into creating these people, I can also see where maybe we already have enough Allies already? Not saying that we could not use them somewhere down the line eventually but right now? Not thinking they would fit into the current storyline.

So if we do use them I will probably step out of this mission and just put up some back stories instead.

Ok this is something that's bothering me, what allies do you speak of? The Tok'ra and Free Jaffa barely tolerate the Tau'ri, the Asgard are dead, what other allies are there (Pegasus Galaxy not withstanding)?

From what I can see Earth could use an ally that isn't more or less "alien".

I have a problem with losing (even temporarily) three strong players over this. Is it realyl that objectionable? Can you at least hold on until Geggs has had a chance to look at this debate before making any moves, in case he can straighten this out in a way that addresses everyone's concerns?

Right. This is all news to me. I had no idea anyone had any objections to the introduction of this new race. Primarily because no one has come to me with any. And since I haven't head anything from josh on the subject, I'm going to assume that he is unaware of the situation. So no one has approached the host...

As far as I'm concerned, this sim is for everyone. I'm a massive fan of constructive criticism. I need feedback in one form or another. If something is good, it shows in the posts. Both quality and quantity of them. If your not too keen on something, I encourage you all to pm or email me. This is one of the main ways you can help improve the sim.

The fact that no-one has come to me with any of these apparent problems really hurts my feelings. C’mon guys… what’s the deal?

Well, I have skimmed threw the PDF file, and everything to me looks fine, and the file is VERY well done.

And, I know I do not have much of a fell for the long term parts of the sim, however, I do not have any objections with a new species being introduced. Most of the sims I have done, I find it creates a welcome change from the cannon, as long as it does not stray to far from it.

However, I can not comment on a direct influence of this to THIS sim, without having experience with it.

The only person that ever objected to me was Chris but from what I can recall the only objection he had was their primary use of starships over the stargate. If there was more I don't remember mainly due to how long it's been since he spoke to me about it.

My only worry would be, if they're that good, what's to stop them pulling our fat out of the fire on a regular basis, btu that's not an issue with the design, just with how we use them.

Providing they "in moderation" or on an uneasy basis (no, we're not helping you this week), then they're our equivalent of the Tokra/Tollan/Asgard - although its worth noting that all of those ended up having to be beatable in order for Earth to have the focus of the story and be the heroes...

To keep them from being able to save Earth every single time I'm going to have them start having internal problems, it was something that I was going to introduce near the end of the mission. That's kind of why it was left out of the .pdf, I didn't want the "future" to be in it just yet.

I figured that if they started having internal problems they'd need to deal with those and would only be able to lend half the support they'd be able to lend normally. Also they may be powerful but they're not offense minded, they're defense minded, they work mainly just to hold their territory and defend their colonies, though every once and a while they do large scale campaigns against the gou'ald.

Another update will be coming soon, I've fixed some minor things and added some stuff I meant to add in the last update but forgot. The next update is scheduled to be done sometime next week if everything around here (in real life) goes according to my current plans.

Thanks to Taneth for helping me out with some of the changes.
